So, many of you feel that the worst job is not a direct combat role, but cleaning up after the battle is over.

That's good, guys. Another confirmation that being a wargamer does not make you a war lover.

Korpraali, I understand what you're getting at. This whole thread could be very depressing if we didn't try to lighten it up a bit.

I suppose my point should really be: in wartime, there's no such thing as a "cushy" job, for lack of a better term.

At one time, I suggested putting civilians into the game, but this could raise some ugly issues, and we wouldn't want SPWaW to be rated as "adults only" software. Granted, some FPS games are far worse, but that's a different topic of discussion altogether.

I know that during the 'Das Reich' campaign there are scenarios where POWs (and I think some civilians IIRC?) are involved?

They both do, but in my opinion, are very nicely done according to history and common sense. <-- no one wants to leave civilians of his/hers own country under the advancing enemy - whoever that enemy is.

My nomination for worst combat job is being on point in the lead squad in a movement to contact.

On a personal note, I did the duty of burning the crap barrels for a couple of weeks one time. It really is not so bad after you get over the smell. Just keep the same uniform on. After a couple of days of that you can get anything you want from people just so you will leave them alone. Officers and NCO's will run from the stink and the ordinary soldiers will give you anything just to get rid of you.
