ATTU HAS FALLEN.......

The defence of Kiska begins....

My troops on Attu are trapped and will soon say three Banzai's and join their ancestors....
My rescue force is 7 days out........too late
KB lite....is three days out......
Supply will run the gaunlet to Kiska in two days......
Surface Action Group 1........Yamato,Mutsu and escorts move to bombard Attu in two days.....
I am not going to commit either of my Divs. to Kiska, but will move the remains of the SNLF force which didn't make Attu .....+ a coastal gun regiment.....another Navel G. unit + paras in reserve......
The plan is to close Attu to Allied traffic and starve it.......
If it open as a working airbase.......well all of northern Japan will be at risk........

The Emperor will have my head if this goes wrong........

If he starts hitting japan from the north and especially if he invades the kuriles won't that activate the kami's early ? could be fun of it does .. Personally i'd get out of dodge on kiska asap. You will lose it for sure seeing as he really hammered attu.

just my 2p

You might be right Rob.........Day 2 of his occupation of Attu...and 60+ fighters reported.......I'm going to start a fight for Kiska...but get a fleet ready to evac. if must.....I know I'm fighting the fight he has chosen......which isn't the brightest of Ideas.......but my blood is up.......
Meanhwhile Attu troops are still hanging on, but probably won't last until their evac. group arrives....
Yorktown finally sank.....
KB will be in place tommorow S.SE of Kiska.......this is now much riskier due to airgroups on Attu.....
Tanaka bombarded Attu today.....and caught a few tiddlers on the way in........

Today.....I managed to Evac the remains of the 7th coastal guns, out of Attu.....
Speedy has moved about 10 PT boats in to stop my individual AKs from sneaking in to Evac.......
I've moved some 70 level exp Tony's in, set to low naval attack in hopes of killing some of those PTs......
I think I won't have but maybe one or two more turns before troops on Attu are dead........
KB still standing by Kiska.......risky.....but I need one more turn to get another SNLF into Kiska.......and supply.......
Musashi has arrived and is moving north with Fuso and Yamashiro + escorts.........

Then I'll decided if I'll fight for Kiska......I need to access the damage to him that Attu invasion caused.......then we'll see.....

Christmas Day 1942.......

I lost a destroyer and another badly damaged in a tussle with Speedy's PT boats.....he lost one PT to shell fire, another two to mines off Kiska.....
Lack of fuel....and tankers to transport it...in Northern Japan, is hampering Ops.......
Pulled more troops off Attu today....hope to pull out some of 7th base force later.......using barges from Kiska....

On Kiska today....the new battle flag was raised.......goodbye to bushido....embrace the penguin.....the troops seemed a bit lukewarm......but after a complimentary saki or 43,001....enthusiasm swept the ranks........

Attu......
Speedy's Pt again take a bite.........my 10 AK rescue fleet was hurt in a big way........2 sunk, 4 are sinking the rest ran away....I've two surface TFs 1 day out to hit the PTs and bombard the airfield where SBDs have arrived......my AGs are still slowly evac. the remains of my forces on Attu......have pushed the AKs back in for tonight.....troops more important than AKs at this point........

My hopes in China are falling away.....his new defensive line is clever...and stronger than I had hoped......will post maps later....

Fuel still a problem in the north..........

Jan. 1st 1943............over the last couple of days the Attu evac. op. continues....all troops out or dead.....most of the 7th BF....on AKs.....still vulnerable to air attack.......

A PT killing TF(3CL4DD) entered Attu and killed 6 of Speedy's PT's........
Bombardment force one day out......
Two days untill KB refueled.....
My Central Chinese army crossed the river....at Chunking....if Speedy has supply he should counter attack....I lost 16,000 men in the crossing and lot's of supply...........
Chitose and sister sent to the yard for conversion to CVL..........330 days to go........

Well done on killing the PT's i hate the little buggers and i play as alllies ! ( far too powerful imo)..

good going on getting the CD out , vital unit imo. why not use subs to evac bits if you can too ?

Thanks Rob.....I had few subs in range.....(only 6, well 5 now Speedy got one last turn).....and wanted them on ship killing duty.....the barges really punched their wieght, helping evac all the small SNLFs.......

CD units and mines together can turn a invasion into a bloodbath....7th CD is refitting in Tokyo.......for return to Kiska.....which only has the IJN base force guns.....

PTs are, I agree, a bit too deadly....but I've found a nice mixed TF of CLs andDDs can be an effective way to kill the little blighters......If you send in BBs or CAs you tend to sink maybe one or two.........with the smaller ships you can get many.......

Why fight up north I can hear a chorus of you shout.......
Well, historically there were many reasons that meant this path was out of the question for the allies.........

But in game terms ....I think the northern route has many advantages for the Allies.....a view Speedy obviously shares.....

Attu and Kiska can be built up to level 4 and L6 airfields.........once done...they can close the two L4 airfields I have up north.........Then It's all about Shikka.......the prize of a Northern attack......It's a battle of posts......The allies big strength early on is LBA..........His Flying Fortresses can out bomb my Sally's and Helen's........

Weather is only a small problem.....60% of the time airgroups can fly....more than enough to close my airfields........

A few days on and I have come to believe Kiska is doomed as well.....I know a bit late as many of you knew this two weeks ago........
Speedy has enough airpower at Attu to stop day to day supply/reinforcement runs........and I have no way to close Attu......Yamato took 2 torps trying to bombard Attu......(she'll be laid up for two months or so).....I've lost 7 AKs and a CL in the last 2 days along with 2 MLs......

I've decided the troops on Kiska will stay and fight........rather than try and withdraw them....It should cost Speedy a fair bit to take it.......1000+ mines.....2 Navel G.....2 SNLF..... 4 baseforces.........was hoping to get a coastal gun unit in but have decided not to risk it........KB will stay for two more weeks.....by then I should have a L4 airfield built in range...then KB will withdraw to other pastures......

China.......Speedy has withdrawn from Kweiyang........I think he spotted my flanking Attack on It's way to Yunan...though It's still two months away......I will pursue with caution.......

Isolation of Kiska

Can you put together a "Tokyo Express" style TF to run supplies into Kiska? Obviously AK's are too vulnerable, but faster ships with AA might work.

Good suggestion imo .. DD's are excellent for this APD's can be a bit slow and are probably more valuabe as ASW units ( although they carry a lot more).

In one game i encountered jap subs dropping huge amounts of men off too . so i 'think' some jap subs a big transport capacity . might be worth checking tbh.

good luck as always !

Thanks guys......I have two fast Trans TF at Paramushiro......with replacements on the way.......I lost a DD during a "Tokyo Express" run last turn......it was part of a TF of 8 ships....is it better to run smaller TFs in or does it matter?
