Presumably, since a flying boat unit, we are talking Channel, Biscay coast or Med. Since the Channel can be done easily from our side, and Med wasn't much of a threat in late 1939, west coast of France somewhere?

Ok, Christmas Eve, 1939 and No. 10 Squadron RAAF moved into Cherbourg. They were the first Dominion squadron in theater in WWII...

a strange one

what WWII plane, was being tested to carry a 17.7 ton bomb ?

(not used in anger, but did make it to the dropping test stage)

and

what WWII plane carried 11 20mm cannons, along with at least 4 50 cal (well 50 cal type) MG's along with several tons of Armor and bullet proof glass

(you get the one, you get the other, but...)

It's the B36 again - although I have 14 or 16 20mm cannon, rather than the 20mm/50 cal mix.

The B36 (D on, with 6 piston and 4 jets) reminds me of the joke about the pilot's definition of a good aircraft: "it's one where the flight engineer can say as he hands me my cup of coffee 'we have a slight problem with the oil pressure on number 12 engine', and I can reply 'Which? Port or Starboard?'"

Both are WWII and it did fly during WWII, in fact while not a huge build number a decent number were built

B-36 first flew on Aug 8 1946, so NO

yeap, the ME 323, it got as far as flight trails with the bomb, but the plane broke as it was flying as they made the test drop (but, ends up that the plane had been damaged by a Strafen attack a few days earlier, that they didn't know had damaged the plane, so was not the idea or the bomb that stopped the designing)

also, like the YB-17, the ME 323E2/WT was set up to be a excourt plane for other ME 323's, 11 MG 151 20 mm's along with at least 4 MG 131 13 mm guns (but again, as the Allies figured out, it was easier to just send fighters with them instead)

not bad for a glider, that they ended up add engines to !!!!!

I must admit I have never heard of any of that! The logic I used (after your steer that we were looking for pure ww2, not just 'designed in ww2') was elimination. Not likely to be Allied, because Grand Slam was pretty racy (really put he strain on Lanc B1 specials - they didn't like sitting on the ground with the bomb on board during mission delays, but would lower it into the cradle to releave the wing spar!). Lanc had far the biggest bomb load, but not even close to 17.7tons. I briefly thought about B29 (only very briefly mind!).

Then I thought - 17.7tons - funny number...kg? German? What did the Germans have that could lift that? Nothing! But the 323 might be close!

So there you have it - more deduction that knowledge!

I guess that means I get the question.

About the Me323... yes, i thought about it. But the cal50 irritated me (sure, 13mm is the same,but...) and the bombsize.
The Me323 with 6 Gnome-Engines was propably the best transport plane of ww2, heavy armed and could even transport tanks...also cheap to produce... a new designed track system allowed difficult landing strips...

But i never heared about the 17700 kg-bomb.

Nope - not Becker. He shot down 9 in one night...

for the german guy...do you mean about his kill per mission ratio ? That should be Lt. Günther Scheel, 71 kills in 70 missions... russia.

That isn't the question: I asked how his last combat flight ended - unless you are claiming he ended his flight by being wounded by bomb shrapnel? In which case 'not according to my sources!'
