Over 100 heavy bombers and 30 subs continue to run supplies into Manila through the Japanese sea and air blockade.

The Allies have perhaps excecuted a major deployment error in Luzon by attempting to garrison both Manila and Clark. 50,000 IJA troops have invested Clark and another 120,000 IJA troops have invested Manila....now no movement can occur between the 2 strongpoints and each Allied garrison can be defeated in detail.

That's impressive. Can I ask how you're doing that, or is it a trade secret?

CTANGUS....Ive been transporting supply into Singapore from Karachi and Bombay since the beginning of the war. More recently Ive been bringing supply in from Toboali and Palembang.

The first thing you need to do is establish air superiority over Singapore....that requires much more than just CAP....Ive been bombing the Jap airifields at Songkhia and Khota Bharu on a regular basis and even had one major raid on Saigon (that one was devastating).

Ive also stockpiled over 24,000 oil and 24,000 resources at Singapore. With the 300 HI there Singapore will generate its own supply of 300 per day for the next 80 days. After unloading the AKs and TKs at Singapore I pull fuel and engineer units out.

With our 3 month break in the game I wasnt paying enough attention to the details and consequently the Japanese entered Singapore very cheaply. Percival was sacked immediately and replaced with Haig. All British/Indian/Commonwealth units in Burma and India had their replacements turned off so that replacements could flood into Singapore.

I told Tophat that there would be retribution in Feb. 1943 when I send 191 P-38s over one of his airfields.

This marks the end of the Allied Far Eastern Fighter Force and the end of Allied air supremacy in SE Asia. Overall the Allies lost 89 AC today vs 59 Japanese AC. The losses were catastrophic for the AVG.....31 P-40Bs, 14 P-40Es, 21 Hurricanes and 11 F4F-3s. This appears to be a Pyhrric victory for Japan however....they lose another 40 A6M2s for a total of 264 A6M2s in the war.

Going back to my initial post in this thread where we were examining the vulnerability of A6M2s in the early war, it appears that Tophats fighter losses are similiar to those that were suffered by Japan in my previous AAR "OPERATION PACIFIC".

Ive posted a table below of Japanese and Allied losses so far. Japan has lost more AC than the Allies...almost 1100 AC so far and about 850 pilots. Thats a loss of over 300 pilots per month. Tough to replace. Japan has also lost more ships than the Allies:

With 240,000 IJA troops at Yenen, 255,000 IJA troops at Changsha and another 14 LCUs at Canton, I think that the Japanese China Expeditionary Force is nearly accounted for.

Chinese supply remains good with 22,000 at Yenen, 27,000 at Changsha and Chungking, and almost 9000 at Wuchow. Probably the most vulnerable part of the Chinese front is the 4 Corps blocking force in front of Wuchow. IL-4 bombers based at Wuchow continue to transport supply into Manila.

American and Philippino casualties are surprisingly high relative to those of Japan. There is still over 4000 supply at the base in Manila but evidently its not getting to the individual units. Japan is bombing Tarakan on a daily basis so the LB-30's based there had to be withdrawn further reducing resupply of Manila. The end for Manila seems to be near so USN subs transporting in supplies will take out valuable ground specialists as they return to base.

The Allied AV at Singapore was about 950 after the previous Japanese assault, built up to over 1100 AV and after this attack is down to 975. I think that the situation is alright for the Allies however. Japan can only manage one attack every 5-6 days and they are a long ways away from achieving 1:1 odds so I think that Singapore can hold out for quite some time. Allied AV and fortifications are rebuilding between each IJA assault.

THE AIR WAR

After weeks of non-stop bombing by Japan in China, Singapore and Manila the Allies strike back.

Japan had been bombing Wuchow for the last 3 days to suppress Allied transports from flying supply into Manila. Today Hurricanes staged into Wuchow and got the better of the Tojos:

USAAF bombers staged back into Singapore to exact revenge for the Japanese 191 A6M2 fighter sweep that ravaged the Far Eastern Fighter Force a couple of weeks ago.

First the heavy bombers put a hurt on the largest Japanese airfield in SE Asia at Saigon:

Saigon is now 45% damaged and Khota Bharu is 78% damaged. 27 Allied AC were lost in A2A combat vs 33 Japanese AC. Altogether, Japan loses 123 AC today vs 35 Allied. Losses include 60 A6M2s, 25 Oscars, 12 Sallys, 12 Sonias, 8 Bettys, 18 B-17Es and 10 LB-30s. Japan has now lost 339 A6M2s in the first 3 months of the war...about 113 per month. Even with increased Zero production it will be awhile before Tophat can convert all his Claude daitais.

Japan invades Zoamboanga today.

Manila continues to hold out against repeated IJA attacks. Supply is down to 3200 but I think my boys there can hold out for a couple more weeks.


MALAYA:

Singapore is holding up well for the Allies. Everytime Japan attacks they knock down the Allied AV 50-75 points but it seems to recover 25 AV points per day. In contrast, Japan is short on supplies and has trouble undisrupting its units let alone take on replacements. Singapore should hold out well into April.


SOUTH PACIFIC:

The Allies have massed over 5 divisions and 300 AC into New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. La Foa, Koumac and Luganville have all been enlarged into level 2 airstrips and Noumea is now level 5. As the Japanese have been held up at both Manila and Singapore SWPAC has made the decision to hold Port Moresby. A massive resupply/reinforcement operation is currently in progress there:

The Allies continue to interdict the Japanese supply line at Johore Bharu with medium bombers while Singapore LCUs bombard on a daily basis to expend Japanese supply.

Japan loses another 168 AC today vs 2 Allied AC. Japanese losses include 94 A6M2s, 32 Oscars, 16 Bettys and 14 Sallys. Tophat described it as "the destruction of Japanese airpower in the east" and told me that completing the capture of Singapore and invasion of Java would be postponed indefinitely. The airbase at Saigon is now 100% damaged.

But with a Japanese A6M2 replacement rate of approximately 180 AC per month, I look at this as having been given a 2 week respite in the air war. Tophat informed me that he was now going to crank up A6M2 production dramatically and speed up R&D on the Tonys and Togos to deal with the 4E menace.

Im withdrawing the heavy bombers now to Java to continue interdiction of supply to Japanese grounds units besieging Singapore.

SITUATION REPORT: 3-15-42 THE BATTLE FOR MANILA

OPERATION REFORGER....the resupply of Manila began 4 days ago. With Manila reduced to around 1000 supply and the Japanese finally attaining 1:1 odds there a major resupply operation began with 7 fully loaded AKs ordered to sail there. 4 AKs have been sunk but 2 have arrived and are currently unloading with a 3rd on the way. Over 7000 supply has been offloaded and the individual LCUs at Manila sucked up supply for the first time in over a month.

To cover one of the most critical opererations of the war to date 25 P-40Es were staged into Bataan to provide LRCAP over the transports unloading at at Manila. The P-40Es fought off repeated level bomber and divebomber attacks today:

Japan loses 30 AC today vs 4 Allied AC. The valiant P-40Es at Bataan destroy 7 Helens, 9 Marys, 7 Bettys and a Nell over Manila at a cost of 2 P-40Es.

So far in the war Japan has lost 1578 AC vs 1104 Allied....about 40% more.

The hopelessly outmatched P-40Es at Bataan are ordered to LRCAP over the offloading transports at Manila tomorrow. Japan will surely send overwhelming force to annihilate them...but supply must get through to Manila and the P-40s are Expendable.
