I can't say I will be purchasing RO,
but I do understand the therapeutic value FPS titles have to offer.
Oh Yeah [:D]

I loved the CoD games.
All the BF series just stunk IMO. I tried BF2 at Sabot's house. He likes it, I didnt[&:].
CoD.....therapeutic indeed.[8D]

Had a great time online tonight.
The game is well worth the money.
With the promise of 64 players in the future and other updates it can only get better.

Hey not so fast Wodin.... [;)] Frankly I find first reports on Steam and RO forums quite disappointing. I need stronger arguments from the "yes sayers" (including you).
As for developers promises of future improvements and updates please don't tell me you're so naive to believe promises from developers?! [:D]

I'll agree with Wodin on this one, its very good. Most of the criticism I have seen relates either to graphics or what seem to be system dependent issues I haven't experienced, like slow frame rates, excessive lag etc. It runs just fine for me. The graphics aren't at all bad, but don't expect CoD2 or BF2 - this incarnation of the Unreal engine is showing its age a tad. It must be said the character animations really are pretty dire when compared with some recent shooter releases.
Like all of these things, it depends what you like, really. RO is much more "realistic" than BF2, DoD or CoD2, but is not an ultra-realism game either. Some will find it not realistic enough, and others will find it far too slow, but I think its a pretty good balance. The armor in particular is very nicely done, and tank battles are a hoot.
I don't see any reason to doubt developers "promises" on this one. They have been developing and improving the mod for years, and I can't see the retail release being any different.

When you say slow, are you referring to movement? Is it like Ghost Recon slow? If you are, that would be pretty cool[:)]

My comment re developers promises was some sort of attempt at inside joke Hertston.... like, you'd understand if you frequent WITP or Empires in Arms sub boards here on Matrix [:D] (nevermind, I am "Matrix yes man" in fact, you won't hear me accusing developers or publishers of false promises no way, except in jest [:D])
How chaotic this whole thing is? I am partially afraid this game will be enjoyable only for people in various clans etc. Can I just pop in on some random server, pick a side and have fun? Tanks are crewed by 2-3 guys, OK if I come with buddies, but what happens if I just randomly get into tank with a guy I have never seen before? How do I give or receive orders etc.?
I hated this aspect in BF2, for example, along with like billion other things I hated in BF2...

There's a complete suite of "voice"/text commands to communicate, with a dedicated set for in-vehicle (plus voice comms, although I havn't tried that yet). Giving or receiving orders isn't a problem - although there's no guarantee they will be followed of course! Outside of a clan set-up, as usual what sort of game you get will depend on how the player base evolves and what servers you play on.
When you say slow, are you referring to movement? Is it like Ghost Recon slow?
No, although that is map dependent to a degree. Ghost Recon demanded a different play style not so much because of "realism" as because of the insane accuracy of its weapons at range. With RO hitting your target is a lot harder, so the same degree of caution is not required, and would most likely gift the map to more aggressive opponents. It's far from "run and gun", though.

Well sounds good, and I trust you Matrix buddies more than I'd trust people on other boards.... but, people are bashing this game badly, and I mean real BADLY on those other boards. Some of the bashers are obviously kids who cannot comprehend the game without health bar or ammo counter - those I disregard - but some of the criticisms seem more articulate than that.... One has to wonder, once initial hype wears off, will there be critical mass of people playing this online in, like, 4 weeks?

Oh, I don't doubt that... there have been more than enough sales already, Steam pretty much guarantees that, and most seem to be able to play and enjoy. There are nearly three hundred servers on launch day, and before Euro bed-time, anyway, large numbers of them were full.
There certainly seem to be 'issues', though.. I suspect the beta pool was nowhere near as big as it should have been. I seem to have been 'lucky'.. and its always those who havn't been who will complain on the first day. Those who like the game are playing, not posting.

Bought it via Steam. Great game, exceeds my expectations.
Now I gotta pick some cool nick for the game (to hide the fact that I am complete n00b [:D])
