I created a punt play for 8 man! Yeah!

I'll post it with some eight man outdoor plays once we figure what ruleset we want to go with for this hybrid.
Perhaps we should come up with a common ruleset for this hybrid game so we can be designing plays within the same parameters.

I agree. Lets take some feedback on this from those interested.

I would say if we do unlimited backfield motion, we would need five men on the line as a rule. I am not sure if unlimited motion would create AI problems, so we'll have to test that.

10 minute quarters with 4 downs and 30 second clock are what we have been playing with, but that isn't set in stone either. Did anyone here try 3 downs? With a punt, that is an option.

I didn't set up a league yet, but 20 man rosters looks to be the sane way to go.

How exactly did you create a punt for 8 man rules?

This is very likely to break things when people try to use this playbook indoors.

Not there I hope this is not a bug :(

Yep.. I'll make sure that's added to the utilities to match what's in the game.

Well, I created a league to play around with here (my first) and created a new playbook with the field goal set to 99 yards. When I get to that play though, I get an error that crashes MaxFB.

Does both the offense and defense have the same setting? Do both have the 99 yard setting in their playbooks?

I have played this several times in quick play with both teams having the same playbook, and there was no trouble.

I will certainly have to check the punt for trouble though, and I would NOT use the indoor playbook with any hybrid league, as it could mess up the indoor league AI. A new playbook with imported plays is a must. If the punt works correctly, there will be no need for field goals longer than the usual ones to be set.

So basically you are saying that a Punt "might" work if its imported into a new "8-man" playbook? I haven't messed with Punts yet so I don't know.

Yes, both are using the same playbook with 99 yards as the setting.

Which patch are you working with?

I am confused here, because I had the field goal punts working, but now when I go in, it isn't. I'll try to see what the problem is.

First I'll just check to see if the punt play works. If it does, the 99 yard setting will be moot.

It's the latest patch...1.092.

For some reason, if the computer controls the team, it works when set to 99. But the error comes up with human controlled teams. I am not sure why, as a 99 on a 100 yard US-2 field is pretty much the same as a 50 on a 50 yard indoor field.

That is sort of odd. I was hoping to try this out as I'm working on an 8-man Playbook. I don't mind kicking Feildgoal attempts as punts.

I have been building a 2-2-4 defense for 8 man. It would probably best apply to the outdoor game. I will make it available when it is complete.

Awesome Deft, I was going to be working on one of those myself. I think it will work great in 8 man outdoor.

I thought the game required 8-man Defensive plays to have 3 Down Defensive Linemen? I hven't messed with Defensive plays yet so I haven't tested this yet.

Nope, I just checked it out and you can put the defensive players on the field as you'd like. You can even have 0 d-line.

Hi guys....

I've been reading your thread again and it's coinciding with a league I've been considering creating based upon my college fraternity flag football teams. Of course we wouldn't be using flags[;)].

In my old league we had eight man teams (my fraternity only had eight members; damn we were tired at the end of a game!) and was played on an open field probably as large as a US Amatuer field. The only thing really oddball compared to what you are conceiving in this thread is that we didn't punt or kick field goals or extra points; basically we ran or passed for four downs and you either scored or the ball was turned over.

Without making you guys do any leg work for me (don't want to be a pain!), has anyone the quick answer to the question, can the kicking game be turned off entirely?

Now, that's an interesting notion, but I doubt it. You would still need kickoffs after scores. I have no problems at all with no punts in the game, it really makes in interesting when you are stuck in your side of the field. Of course if we go with no punting, we may want to adjust the kickoff location to around the 30 or 40 to give decent starting field position.
