Fantastic shots.

Can anyone identify the plane in shot 5? I'd make it a "name this" thread except I have no idea what it is so I couldn't announce a winner. Probably a fighter, but he's pretty low and appears to be banking sharply instead of zooming on a strafing run, so perhaps a Val jinking after having dropped his load?

Then again might be an allied fighter.

Do you know when this one was taken? during or after the attack.

I see:

1. Oklahoma turned turtle;

2. West Virginia sunk; but

3. Arizona does not appear to be very damaged.

Well i will judge this foto was taken after the attack and like few days after:

Becouse:
-No Smoke from Arizona Wreck
-No smoke from any other vessels
-California laying on the buttom of the Harbor and she sunk well after the attack was over

Unfortunately the photo’s had no captions, just a series of 18 images imbedded in one email, so I can’t tell you specific details with any certainty.

Definitely after the attack though, since all fires are out and there is no smoke anywhere from smoldering fires in the ships. My guess is it is several days after the attack.

Arizona settled to the bottom in pretty shallow water I believe, and if you look closely it is underwater. Only the superstructure is above water.

It must be after, since Nevada(4) and Vestal(5) have left.

You can see Arizona is sunk, but she does not look so badly damaged from this angle.

I visited Hawaii in 1999 and spent a day at Pearl Harbour. The deck of the Arizona is just 1-2 feet below the surface and is very visible. Oil is still bubbling up from the wreck. It gives you a very eerie and solemn feeling, since the Harbour does not look that different from that day in 1941...

Can't be a Val, no fixed gear. Actually it is hard to tell if it is coming or going. Guys on the sub don't seem to be looking at it, might even be a P-40 patrolling later in the day or even on the 8th

Very nice pictures. The carnage was terrible - just look at that photo of destroyed destroyer- Cassin? in front of Pennslyvania.

Notice the McCann rescue chamber?

It's hard to tell.

Given that there isn't any antiaircraft fire over the harbor I would assume its probably friendly.

I too have seen some of these before. They look a bit retouched though...the clarity in some of the photos is quite good.

You’re all very welcome, I knew they'd be a hit here. I too think I may have seen one or two of the images before, but most are brand new to me too.

I’ve been busy back-tracking the chain email I received trying to track down the original author to see if they can shed some light on the origination of the images and give us a little more detail (and hopefully more images, drool).

So far I’ve tracked the post back to a guy at the Johnson Space Center, and I’m hoping he is the original author. But as all things chain letters go, this post could have been circulating through thousands of people since Dec. 7th 2000 or something and I’d have no hope finding the original author then.

Everyone: Remember what I was saying about single-digit fires in the PH attacks for the US? BTW, I'm tending more to believe that the conditions of ships from the previous turn, are the condition they were damaged with when we see them next. I know this because I had a PC which had been attacked by a sub, adajacent to a base. This was damaged seriously enough that it split from it's parent TF during the execution phase. This means it then plots towards that same base (happened to be it's home base). It had at least one move during a pulse, as well all know, but yet it didn't move in there before the player turn (it's parent TF was stationary).

To re-hash, there are no US ships, no matter how repeatedly pounded (in the scenario15 PH attack), that are coming up with more then single-digit fires, and if you draw the same conclusion I do regarding the PC that split and didn't make it to base, when it clearly should have, if anything was being affected after that attack, then the good US firefighting has no chance to help those boats by the time you get to take a look at the damage on 12/8 and you shouldn't see this advantage revealed until the 12/9 US player turn.

I have played scenario15 3 times where I saved it and then went back and saw the ships damaged. There is not a single ship in these three instances that has more than single-digit fires - none. Does PH have an asbestos coating on the ships? Are ALL US ships this well protected no matter the time or place?
