In any event, lets save this argument about a "benign occupation" of USSR option for when it might actually happen (in a hypothetical WiR remake by Matrix).
OK Ed, and thanks for a stimulating debate. I was not aware of that Hitler made a difference between Slavs and Slavs, will have to inform myself on this. I did try to read "Mein Kampf" once, but it kind of made me feel dirty, since it is rather personal in style. I do not want to "connect" with him in any way.

The Germans had a lack of workers in 1936. In the following years there were much more workers needed: some to grow grain etc, some to work in factories. In 1939, after conquering Poland the Nazis wanted to remove all Polish people and settle Germans which they imported from all over the world. There weren´t enough although the minor allies sent every German they could reach. After that the SS decided to germanize Polish people (about 4 million of them!).

I think its pretty hard to imagine any sort of benign occupation with the Nazi's in power. However, its a lot easier to imagine without them. After all, Germany is an inherently powerful country, they did defeat Russia and almost win WW1 in 1918. I think its quite conceivable that given a peace treaty that left the Hohenzollerns in power in an interwar Germany, they could actually have done much better in teh 1940's had a war occurred. Of course now we're getting into alternative history, which is amusing but not particularly relevant to this game.
