follow on dumb question .... How do you know wish one is correct ? Granted one has to be wrong, but which one ?
The IJN turn is
always the correct one, since the IJN runs the turn. If the Allied player sees something different (i.e. - if the USS
Mugwuffin is sunk in the Allied results but not in the IJN results and the Allied player checks, the USS
Mugwuffin will still be afloat.
That ship is not in the OOB. Please add. [:@]

Put another way, the synch bug actually has no affect on game play other than what the allied player observes when running the replay. This of course is a problem since some game information is only available via the replay.
It's like the Japanese made a propaganda movie and your watching it. [;)]
I lost the BB Maryland this way. She was torpedoed just outside PH on her way to SF. She made most of the journey with a big hole in the side gushing water. I didn't notice anything was wrong until her speed dropped to almost nothing. She sank in sight of SF Bay. [:@]

But that's a pretty big negative affect for the Allied player. [:D]

During the Combat Replay neither player should hit "ESC" or any other key or click on "Done" until absolutely necessary to advance the replay...ie when the Combat Summary comes up.
Since my opponent and I implemented this, I have not had an issue with Sync problems.

Funny, I have used "esc" in every turn in the last year. Not a single replay issue reported by my opponents. I send 1 the combat report at all times (because we have been bitten previously when WITP first released) and the other has not reported anything wrong yet either.
Of course, I have yet to strafe a PT boat.[8|]

i have mentioned this elsewhere, but i might as well put it in here as well:
RARELY the Allied player might be able to retrieve the correct playback by trying the following:
1. Do a cold boot (i.e. power down for about 30 seconds before booting).
2. Just run WITP. Do NOT have any programs on in the background (i.e. turn on any extraneous things like screen savers, etc. that are running in the background.)
3. Run the replay file straight off (i.e. don't do any other turns first).
Also, as mentioned previously, it helps to have your Virtual Memory (Swap File) set as high as it will go. This particular instance of the Replay Bug seems to be memory related, and may be of the "self-correcting" variety mentioned in various posts. But still, it is very useful to see the ACTUAL results - at least it is to me.

I had lots of sync problem before 1.8xxx
Since then only once. I play 2 PBEMs daily.
I hit ESC all the time and I play the same games on two different PCs.
However, every time I receive the Jap turn I read the attached combat report, just in case [;)]
The usual telltale of a wrong reply is the amout of lost planes. It's the first thing I check in the info screen. Lost planes. If it doesn't match with what I've seen in hte reply I go check the original combat report received from my opponent.

The ESC key problem *probably* only occurs if the IJ player hits the key during his replays, not the Allied player.

Here's another thing I haven't seen mentioned. BOTH players MUST have the same settings.
The Allied Player MUST have the SAME game settings (on or off) as the Japanese Player in the Realism Options (i.e. PDU, Sub Doctrines, Allied D/C, Reinforcement, etc.) and Game Options section (i.e. Facilities Expanding, Auto Subs, Auto U/G, etc.).
I found it happening a few weeks ago when I started playing 2 different PBeM players. It's abit of a pain in the arse, but re-setting my prefs stopped it cold.
