The amount of arty in some of the larger HTTR scenarios was totally brutal. In some cases, it was almost impossible to move a force by daylight as the barrage that would rain down on them would be totally crippling.

Hmm, I should really go back back and play some HTTR just to see how it feels now. I did go back and play a quick game of RDOA about six months ago to see how far we have come since 2001.

Indeed, and that pissed me off at times :p
I used to group arty units in HttR tho, to clear a path through heavily defended areas and/or to distract. I used to leave ungrouped arty-units for AI calls, and ensured that the grouped units only fired when desperately needed (rest-order).
