Alas, it's not that simple.  Harpoon is on my H drive and the command prompt starts in C.  CD.. only gets me to the C root.

You have to type H:\ to go to the H root in DOS.

OK, tried at from DOS.  Got an error message about unsupported color depth and outdated drivers.  So I updated the drivers yet again.  Tried Dos again.  Same message.  I need to take a break from this for awhile.  I can play fine in full screen.

Hi there,

could you please let us know what color depth you got your windows desktop resolution set to? My video card supports 256 colors, High color (16 bit) and True color (32 bit). I run H3 ANW at the True color setting without any problems. You might want to try changing your color depth setting and see if that helps. We are not aware of anyone else encountering these kinds of problems, so could you also post details about your graphic card and operating system versions (maybe someone else has ANW working with the same combination and might be able to offer some hints).

Cheers,
JP

I have directX 9.0c.  I have a GeForce FX 5600 and am running a True Color.  If nobody else is having this problem, I am fine with full scrren.

I have DirectX 9c, and a GeForce 7800GTX set at 32-bit depth, and all is OK here. Everything goes well on the laptop, too, with a GeForce 6200 using shared RAM.

So, if I own a notebook which is limited to 1024 resolution, this basically means I can only run it on 800x600? That would be really sad, because I'm not gonna get it like this...
Also, I think it's kind of strange to advertise 300 scenarios and there's just 100 in the game. But this doesn't belong here, so nevermind...

Discussion over this is being carried out on this Matrix thread: Over 300 scenarios

No, you can run the game on your notebook at 1024x768 at full screen, or at 800x600 windowed [:)]

Cool. I almost thought I have to pass this one. Because 800x600 looks really ugly on my screen... So, now I have to reconsider. Thx![:)]

I am having a different sort of problem with the graphics, but it might be related.  I run the game in full-screen mode and after a short amount of time (anywhere from seconds to a few minutes) the colors freak out (look negative to the default scheme).  I've tried changing to another in-game display type (greyscale etc.) but the colors remain.  Also, sometimes you can see parts of the underlying Windows desktop through the game's desktop.  Once it freaks out, there's no going back and the colors are such that you cannot see well enought to play.

The game will not play in windowed mode - in any resolution.  A DOS and game window opens up, shows the Washington quote then closes.  The game window is the same size each time (does not scale with resolution changes).

I am using an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 256 MB video card with the latest drivers and DirectX (updated yesterday and today respectively).  I run at 1280x1024 32-bit resolution on my Windows desktop.  Previous versions of H3 ran with no problems.  I am using the 3.7 version of the game with no changes to the DB (I tried the alternate DB and that produced the same effect).

Yes, that was it!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Golly, one would think that they would have set the default so it was not on.

You 'owe' us one head-to-head game. [;)]

Glad to hear that it got fixed. Drop into HarpGamer pHp chat room or the HG mIRC chat room if you get tired of beating up the poor lil' AI. [8D]

I have a couple of questions/comments/requests.  I have a widescreen laptop 1280x768 and I can only get the window 800x600 resolution, yes with all the up to date drivers etc.  I can go to full screen option and run 1024x768 but circles aren't circles... :)  Any hopes that other widescreen resolutions for the full screen play of ANW.  Is that easy enough to add to ANW?

I guess from what I have read so far there isn't much hope of utilizing 2 or more displays for ANW yet.  I always found that I could not put everything up on the screen that I wanted to keep track of and was really hoping to have many windows spread out across my 2 screens.  In particular I think a long message window is extremely helpful, but not at the expense of map space.  thoughts/comments?

thanks,
S5

Widescreens will be supported after the first patch.
