The Philippines looks excellent too.

1. The MLR is Lingayen and Baguio. I have an AV of nearly 600 at each hex. This is probably a little heavy for Baguio since the Forts are now past 6 in a mountain hex. Might move another 100 AV to Lingayen whose Forts are just at 3.

2. I just moved the Phil Inf Div from Iliolo to Legaspi where it will then move on to Manila. The same will happen at Cebu. Those troops will be lifted and moved up as well to bolster my defense.

3. The Philippine Air Force is active and doing well as the screenshot shows and explains:

Once your troops get a chance to R&R in Manila, i would move some into Clark so they are only 60 miles to the front lines, if needed. This will cut down your reaction time by about two days.

I'm not sure on this one, but arent these P40 able to fly into China to get out of PI??
 
i allways figured that was the way to go for them, since it puts them near India, where you cant reinforce so easily after the SRA turns Japanese
 
first Chinese base in the screenshot is 10 hexes away, so i'd say they should be able to reach it?
(not sure on P40 range, but 10 hexes isnt that big a deal afterall)

Thanks for the advice on moving the Fighters up to China. I CAN do that and hadn't even thought of it.


The Japanese have dug their Fleet in off Port Moresby shores. Rather strange thing to do...

Since KB is in a land hex, they have reduced sortie abilities right??

There are always submarines . . . but it is a pity you didn't lay mines in the hex earlier.[:D]

I'd say you need a couple of minelaying subs for that [:D]
 
problem is they'd probably take a while to get there..

Haven't posted in a while since things have been rather slow in our campaign. Ken and I are getting turns down but nothing major has happened since the fall of Balikpapan.

1. Singapore is status quo with my cutoff troops holding against 4 Japanese Inf Div on the eastern coast while Johore Bharu easily repels all Japanese attacks to date.

2. The Philippines sees the Japanese advance into Lingayen and, thus, only leave one unit at San Fernando to their rear. Two units in Baguio are detailed to cut in behind the Japanese advance and cause a bit of panic!

The Philippine AF continues to holds its own against the Japanese planes in the area while still attacking shipping whenever they can. The experience of my 2EB Squadrons is climbing rapidly and they will become quite dangerous within another couple of weeks.

3. Java waits and sees...

4. SE Pacific is looking excellent as a convoy carrying 275 planes from the West Coast arrives at Suva to bring aerial forces to this region. The bombers and fighters will be spread between Noumea, Luganville, Nandi, and Suva.

5. My build-up in the Aleutians continues with the goal being to recapture Attu within 4-6 weeks. Unmak is building up and I will soon deposit troops at Amchitka to do the same thing.

John, i might have missed this but did you move the CV airgroups from Rabaul back to your carriers?  i'm guessing from the screen shot of PM that you've kept one DB and one VF squadron at PM?

I've always sent my PI fighters to China, but I don't think that makes me particularly smart.  In my game with John III, though, it was definately the right move.  I had far more need for fighters in CBI than I did in Australia (which became a backwater for much of our game).
 
As a matter of fact, there were times that I moved fighters from China to Manila to offer some CAP during the long Jap siege.

I've pulled my planes out except a few damaged ones.  As soon as they are out my CV aircraft will fly out and rejoin their CVs who are on the move right now.

same goes for me. i even changed the HQ control of the P-40 unit several times to get it from clarck field to N australia..never thought about sending them simply to china, where they also would rule the skies against nate and oscars and force the japanese to bring zeros to china instead of sending them elsewhere!

And the reverse would hold true.  If PI is still holding out when USAAF B-25's at Karachi make and appearance you could fly them to burma, hop to China then a nice little flight over the South China Sea to Clark !   I must have this Darwin, Timor fixation going on - Stupid!!!!  years and this never to occured to me.  [X(]   Well i know what my first move is when i get home.  Take the B-25 group i have at burma (after i upgrade them to J's) and do that Hop/Skip/Jump thing to clark!  Its Feb '43 and i still Hold Luzon.  The rest of the PI is hell in a handbasket..

No Hornblower those are perfectly fine thoughts.  My AARs are always about learning and thinking.  While I may be 'manic' as Dan justifiably states, I do enjoy the give and take of the AAR and love to see it move in a tangential direction.  My college students HATED the fact that I welcomed tangents and would run with them if they served a positive purpose.

I leanred about the value of keeping planes in the Philippines by Greg Moses.  His 1-2 Squadrons based there were a true pain-in-the-butt.  My 2EB currently there are moving well into the 60s in terms of experience and will also become a p-i-t-b too...
