Maybe I need to try something like this?

Major combat operations are now over for Summer '43.
Operation Tunguska has achieved all key objectives set:
1. Drive two Fronts (Central and Western) to the area of Lvov in order to threaten Warsaw in the upcoming Winter Offensive.
2. Split AGS in two.
3. Push part of AGS into Romania and thus render it strategically unimportant.

The tally of losses for Tunguska shows it to be a major Soviet victory. Although battle losses are similar on both sides, over 680,000 Axis prisoners have been taken, as against a mere 15,000 Soviet, and a total of 43 Axis divisions destroyed for the loss of zero Soviet divisions.
However, Soviet losses in tanks and aircraft have been heavy, although these can be replaced.

Woo, glad to see you back in action! I continue to be amazed at how fast you play. That alone makes this AAR valuable to me -- it teaches me that I need to get my butt in gear playing as the Sovs, lol.
That screenshot of the paratroopers in Berlin made me laugh. Photoshop magic, or did you use the editor?
Also, I'm impressed that you're doing this *and* a WITP/AE PBEM. I had to suspend my own AE PBEM because it was consuming my life. So now I feel a bit sheepish urging you on here!
As for the AI in WITP/AE, I'd already played the heck out of the vanilla game, and done several PBEMs, so for me the AI in AE (and vanilla WITP) was beatable in my first game. I think the challenge for coding an AI for WITP is greater -- even humans have trouble getting their heads around how to use naval/air assets, CVs, BBs, etc., and how best to supply bases, which you have to do manually in much of AE. By contrast, WiTE's chessboard seems simpler to me, from an AI perspective. But then, I have very limited experience trying to code AI (the most complex game I've attempted is checkers), so what do I know.
Anyway, I'd love to see you get to Berlin by spring of 44. Glad you're back at it!

Is Leningrad still in Axis hands, or am I looking at the map incorrectly?

I'm actually playing TWO WiTP PBEM games at the moment, PLUS a Gettysberg PBEM, while also holding down a management consulting job that kicks in again from tomorrow - that's how come I learned to play fast!
Over the Xmas period I produced a 250 page training manual on communications risk management - it shipped to the client for review this morning LOL
The Berlin shot was a photo editor - but I'm disappointed that you didn't believe I could make Berlin in 43!

Yes, the AI is still holding Leningrad and the whole line of the Baltic states in full strength while I make moves on Warsaw from the south... Seems like the city of Lenin is the only one he does like

It's worth noting that it took me most of Sunday to set up the offensive. Once it kicked off I ignored the micro-management and just stormed through the combat ops. I will switch back to micro-management now until I am ready to launch my winter offensive.

Soviet PBEM turns take me 4-8 hours to play. It's amazing how fast you are going. Wow.

If I was playing PBEM or as the Axis vs. the AI I would micro-manage more, but vs. the Axis AI it's not really necessary, IMO.
Also, I am not aiming for the best possible score with this GC - I am primarily just testing for bugs and assessing the AI's technique...

Very enjoyable AAR I think you struck the right balance between showing you liked the game and pointing out where the game has flaws

Thanks Smirfy. That's what I was aiming for and I'm pleased that you can see that.

Most welcome nicwb. Warsaw and Berlin lie ahead and are certainly in reach, but the game is not challenging enough this time around to justify the extra effort. I'm starting one or two PBEM games and will probably launch a new AAR to contrast my PBEM experience against this one.
