I may have jumped the gun here. I'm playing with the latest beta patches, so I can convert production factories over to R&D even if they are not in the same series (I just did from Zero to Frank with my back up file....but did not save it so I'm OK here).

This may be a bug, definitely not WAD that I know of. You should post this in Tech Forum for Michael to review.

The Oscar Ki-43-IIIa is a very good kami plane due to range, ceiling is above most Allied fighters and has good payload.

- The Chinese abandoned Tuyun and entered Kweiyang. No arrow indicated such a move...weird. I have one division at Kweiyang. Another Chinese stack marched against it from the north and launched a shock attacke. The combined Chinese AV was 5000 (!) versus 350 of mine. Miraculously, I held Kweiyang! The 23rd Army is marching out from Tuyun to reinforce the heroic division.
- The huge Chinese stack at Chihkiang tried to break out of the pocket but failed again. One additional IJA division is marching to Chihkiang to secure the place.
- Finally, the Chinese pocket near Yenan is eliminated. It took me two month but around 40.000 Chinese are now POW and 750 AV are released.

Ceylon
No enemy fighters or bombers remain in southern India, they have moved to Calcutta. Only transport planes remain at Madras and Cochin. The 22nd Air Flotilla is having a great time bombing these two airfields.

N.Australia
The Australians retreated to Derby. It seems that supply has become an issue for them at last. His heav bombers are becoming less and less effective, most of them are turning back before my CAP can engage them.
My own bombers are taking considerable losses bombing Derby's AF. Very few supply hits are generated. I will soon attempt a bombardment using my two BBs.

The 3rd Air division launched two huge ground attacks on Dacca, involving 150 bombers and 70 fighters. Enemy bombers finally started bombing my spearhead around Tezpur. No fighter cover was provided in the first day and the result was 60 disabled AFVs. The next day, all available fighters in the theater covered the spearhead, destroying many enemy bombers. BUT I forgot to stand down the bombers and they launched another strike on Dacca, with no escorts. The result...62 bombers downed. Ouch!

Anyway...my tanks begun marching southeast to Dimapur, destroying an Indian brigade in the process. Three recon battalions are advancing to Darjeeling and attracting some of the allied bombers. The 2nd Army begun crossing the river to attack Dacca. The 33rd Div captured Cox'Bazar and the allied pocket is now only one hex wide.

I had a discussion with my opponent about the house rule which prohibits formations from crossing borders unless PPs are paid. I asked if I should be able to use the Chinese Exp. Army as I see fit, in the hypothetical scenario of a Chinese collapse. He agreed that I should be able to move units wherever I want in Asia, except in India. Which means two things:
a) that the only use for it would be to defend Burma and Malaya. Or attack Russia.
b) that I am free to redeploy units from the Kwantung Army to China without paying PPs.

My plan was to move the 16th Tank Army in China, but that is no longer necessary, as 3 infantry divisions and 4 tank regiments in Manchuria have already begun boarding trains.

- The enemy evacuates Imphal. No movement arrow warning. He will probably try to gather everyone in Ledo, where the refinery is or try to escape through the woods.
- 3 days till the 2nd Army enters Dacca

Another attack at Kweiyang, just one day after yesterday's shock attack. Similar results, a recon battalion is wiped out. One division and two artillery units will reinforce my garrison in about one week from now. Supply is desperately needed here.

Your opponent must have heard about an earlier posting of mine. [:D] Your warships and airplanes are going to be busy in Australia keeping your position intact. You can either bomb his troops or Carnavon to destroy supply. My opponent was able to take Exmouth, but supplies got so bad that he had to withdraw after getting to within 3 hexes of Port Hedland.

Yes, and at the same time he begun moving his huge army at Derby again

. Too few bombers and too many jobs to do: bomb ground troops at Exmouth and Derby, bomb AF to generate supply hits at Derby and Carnavon. Four different missions.

I still have the 65th Brigade in Timor and one independent engineer unit (40AV), which I can throw in the coming battles. Plus, in 2 days I will buy a division from Manchuria and send it to Java.

The 2nd Army finally entered Dacca and expelled the Allied strugglers. Unfortunately, they retreated into the marshes southeast of Calcutta and I cannot pursue them further.

The enemy tried to break out of the Cox'Bazar pocket twice and twice he was thwarted, but it was a pretty even battle.

In the second pocket, the allies are marching through the forests towards Tezpur and I am massing my armor to meet them in the open fields. I captured Kohima unopposed. Ledo is also abandoned.

Small British units have begun reinforcing their new defense line, starting from Calcutta. It's not really a line yet, the only relatively well defended part is Diamond Harbor-Calcutta-Jessore, which contains around 35.000 allied troops and soon it will be reinforced by the former Dacca defenders.

Near Ceylon, an allied SCTF of 6 destroyers tries to intercept a supply convoy, 1 hex off Trincomalee, but it is engaged by 3 Japanese destroyers during the day. We lose two destroyers each, I was hoping for a night engagement.

The big Chinese stack at Kweiyang retreated to the north, after failing to break my defenses several times.

I am gathering 4 additional infantry divisions from Manchukuo at Changsha. Together with existing 13th Army units, I will have 2700 AV in total. I hope they will be enough to take the base.

Bloody turns. I keep losing transports needlessly.

- The enemy bombs Tezpur causing considerable disruption and casualties, as my LRCAP is becoming less and less effective. I need an airfield here asap.
- More enemy units arrive in Rangpur-Darjeeling. My first priority right now is to reduce the two pockets and free up the divisions occupied with them. It's a slow process, moving through the jungle.
- 6 Allied destroyers trashed an empty supply convoy that had just unloaded 35.000 tons of supply at Trincomalee. 10 Aden class xAKs are gone. I must find a way to counter his raiding in the Bay of Bengal.
- My SCTF at Trincomalee engages the enemy after the above "battle". Inconclusive result, superficial damage for both sides.
- Port strike on Colombo: at least one allied submarine sunk, three destroyers heavily damaged

- The enemy gathered 600 AV in Exmouth and launched a deliberate attack that caused almost no casualties, but dropped the forts to 3. I may need to commit the 65th Bde soon. Perhaps invading Carnavon would be better, but they reinforced it recently.
- Another raid against Carnavon by a CA led destroyer division resulted in the sinking of an allied DD and 3 transport ships. Naval strikes by the 12 Kates in Exmouth and CVE Hosho, port strikes by army bombers from Port Hedland sink another 3 ships and damage a lot more. Lots of vehicles destroyed.
- Three destroyers are spotted near Horn Island. Vals take off to bomb them and sink two. It's probably an evacuation of naval assets from Darwin

Double check to ensure that your Independent Engineer Regments are where you want them to be. They are Japan's best units to build up bases.

Reinforce Exmouth now. If you lose it, then Port Hedland will be subject to both air and naval attacks and make your hold at both Port Hedland and Broome very problematic long term. Look for highly disabled brigades in China that you can use PPs cheaply to move into Australia after a brief R&R period to regather their strength.

I will reinforce Exmouth with the 65th Brigade.
I recently bought a division from Kwantung Army (sent to Java) and currently have no PPs available.
After the pocket in India is gone, I will redeploy at least two infantry divisions to the DEI.

I hope these measures are enough to secure Australia and the DEI in the foreseeable future.

If they manage to build up Kirakira in to a decent airfield, I think it will mark the beginning of the end for the Solomons. I will not let them do that.

I have two questions though.

1. There is a Chinese unit one hex away from the main road (Hanoi-Nanning). It's not ON the road, but 1 hex away and they control the hexside leading to the road. My question is, will it disrupt the flow of resources and oil from Singapore?

2. As I understand it, moving oil and resources through the road network will not incur an efficiency penalty. There is however a penalty on moving fuel. Is this correct? And will I lose more fuel letting it flow from Singapore to Port Arthur or Fusan, than I currently lose moving it with tankers?

1. There is a Chinese unit one hex away from the main road (Hanoi-Nanning). It's not ON the road, but 1 hex away and they control the hexside leading to the road. My question is, will it disrupt the flow of resources and oil from Singapore?

This came up in another AAR and the consensus was it would not hinder flow. Obviously though, it will be easy for that unit to move 1 hex and do so ...

2. As I understand it, moving oil and resources through the road network will not incur an efficiency penalty. There is however a penalty on moving fuel. Is this correct? And will I lose more fuel letting it flow from Singapore to Port Arthur or Fusan, than I currently lose moving it with tankers?

Correct on the oil/resources ... no losses.

With respect to the fuel ... I have never calculated the loss percentage exactly.

Tanker usage depends greatly on the tanker; smaller ones use +5x the fuel to tranport a fuel unit/hex as compared to the Tonan Whaler. Then of course, you have to include the fuel usage of your ASW assets AND the supply usage of your air ASW assets. Finally, you have to include your losses to subs ...

Thus, the reason i have never bothered to calc the road losses as I know that the operational uses + losses will greatly exceed it. PLUS, I get to use all those escorts and planes somewhere else instead of in ASW roles ...

-Transport planes bring reinforcements by air, each day. I will also bring my reserve (Guards Bde), once troops transports become available. The 8th Transport Squadron was in the Home Islands, transfering recently arrived reinforcements to the Pacific.

- A second allied wave tried to unload more troops, but I sent BatDiv8 from Rabaul, full speed. The enemy amphibious TF fled just in time to avoid disaster, sacrificing two DDs to engage my BBs.
Subs, Nells and Vals managed to sink 4 xAKs and 4 APs and 2 DDs.

- Their remnants retreated to Ndeni. A combined attack of the 23rd Air Flotilla, Kido Butai and BatDiv8 will try to annihilated these sizable forces and Ndeni's airforce (45 fighters). No heavy USN warships detected nearby. This will be a one-day operation. Hit and run.

For the loss of one Val pilot KB makes a point to the enemy, that he can't use Ndeni as a base for offensive operations in the Solomons. The allied ground troops in Kirakira are effectively cut off and 30 fighters are destroyed over Ndeni.

I kept BatDiv8 out of the action today. Since no significant enemy warships are spotted leaving Numea, I decided to extend the operation for another day. BatDiv8 will bombard Ndeni and return to Rabaul. KB will move NE of Ndeni.

I lost a good AO near Rabaul (and 11600 tons of fuel with it)!

- As similar operation against Darwin was attempted, but it was a failure. I lost 12 Zeros for 1 bomb hit on CA Devonshire.
