Are the shipsets in this thread usable in Legends? I´m a little bit confused...[&:]

They are, Gary. I use a couple of the shipsets from here in a couple mods I made yesterday. They work fine. And contrary to the mod manual, keep the images at 500x500 pix. In other words, use the images as is. Also, if you want a carrier type for the Romulan-looking set, go to page 6, I think, and you'll find a 'carrier' looking ship albeit with red lighting instead of the green. I use that set for my Mortalens.

I'm not the most versed in editing graphic files, but I did try scaling your 500x500 pix ships down to 300x300pix at first with Gimp, then setting them in a shipImages folder for my theme. At least, those that needed scaling down (not all do). I didn't like what I saw. The images didn't appear as sharp. Now, that may have been me on a bad day, I don't know, but it was my impression.

Thx Grisha. I was working on sth for DW lately and you just saved me A LOT of repair. I guess 500x500 is still the way to go with the bigger ships then. I really needed that info.

I do, but also I just plain like them... they are neat because they are different.

Say do you have the carrier allready included in the set or would I need too download it seperatly? The third shipset is my favorit they look great and the fighter is really cool.

And I do have a small question you have written you used 500x500 bzw 300x300 so that the ships look good even thought in size over 1300. Does this mean the ships will actually look bigger if I use the same Shippicture for a 1000 than for a 200 size ship?

That said thanks for the hard work you have put into that. When I see mods like this I wonder allways why the developers not put these things officially in the game[&:]

Hello,

I just downloaded these awesome looking shipsets. Are there some instructions anywhere how to install them? I just copied the content in the game folders where the original files are and overwrote the existing files when asked. Was that all? I don´t think so, because after starting the game and designing a new ship I saw that the new shipsets weren´t selectable. TIA for any help.

The carriers are not yet included in the files. I'm working on the update now, but I don't plan to release it until Christmas. The resolution does not affect the ship size in game but it can affect how the ship looks. In the higher resolution ships look better, especially in ROTS. In Legends resolution vs quality was improved, but it appears some of the bigger ships still look better in 500x500. As for including such stuff in official releases, it's usually very expensive to get shipart of this quality into the game, and even more importantly very time consuming. And let's not forget the game developers' intended style for graphics. If you change the style of one element of the game, you usually need to modify the rest. Again, a lot of work.[:)]

Yup, I should have included a more detailed instructions.
You need to extract a shipset to your Shipimages folder in the Customization folder in the game directory ( for example: C:\Games\Distant Worlds\Customization\Mod1\Shipimages). In shipimages folder a folder named 'familyX' should appear. In that folder there should be ship images named after thier ship classes (capitalship.png, cruiser.png etc). Now change 'X' in the folder name to the number of the ship family you want to be replaced by the new shipset. To know which number represents a certain shipset go to Distant Worlds\Images\Units\Ships. It's all there. After you changed the name of the 'familyX' folder to for example 'family2' you can start the game. Than active your custom theme from the main menu (here it would be 'Mod1' for example) and start a new game. The new ships should be there when you create a new design.

Excellent work, Kal! I love your designs, great stuff. Only thing I would say is no carriers for most sets, but that is a little thing. Overall, very impressive!
