Surprise impulse port attack on Amsterdam. Germans roll 10 surprise.

Lots of damage.

The port of Amsterdam is aflame.

Germany and Italy have taken combined actions, Japan land.

The entire German High Seas Fleet in Kiel sails out into the North Sea.

They are intercepted by the RN's CVL and battleships.

Air support flies out from Britain.

The Kriegsmarine gets the better of the search roll 3 to 8, and avoids combat.

The Germans are saving their ammo for a massive shore bombardment of Rotterdam, and an invasion from the Deutschland.

A raid by Dorniers on the factories of Strasbourg is averted by heavy AAA fire.

But Heinkel 111s achieve a measure of revenge for French outrages against the mothers and children of Stuttgart and Nuremberg as they hit Lille.

Japanese Nell bombers miss on a return visit to Kweiyang.

First the Japanese miss Chiang's HQ with a ground strike by D3A1s, then Umezu gets another bad roll.

An unlucky General is no good.

In the north above the Yellow River, Terauchi is more fortunate.

Rotterdam falls to a combined German assault and shore bombardment.

First the Japanese miss Chiang's HQ with a ground strike by D3A1s, then Umezu gets another bad roll.

An unlucky General is no good.

Indeed, your combat result was poor luck. By my calculation with the assault you had a 84.1% chance of winning the attack (i.e., taking the hex) and a 76% chance of destroying both units (i.e., destroying Chiang).

In fact, I'm surprised the Chinese selected assault. With a Blitz, your win probability does go up significantly to 96.6%. However, Chiang's survival goes up too from 24% (i.e., 100% - 76%) to 46.4%. That is, his odds of survival go from approximately 1 out 4 to almost 1 out 2.

But, a (unmodified) roll of 3 makes all this mute.

The setup of the Dutch INF in Rotterdam isn't that good at all.

It allows Germany to attack that city. If the INF would be setup in Amsterdam, that would mean that the CW could enter Rotterdam (since the Germans can't attack that city, except when they invade it our of the sea). And Rotterdam is a very nice place to have CW units in...

Thanks for that tip Centuur. This is my first game playing the Allies in years. I'm learning a lot.

To repeat, the Chinese should not have unstacked units in clear terrain. The word for such units is "speed bumps". Get to mountains. The Chinese have a lot of those. (About the only thing the Chinese have a lot of. [:)])

Allied impulse. The RN moved more ships into the N. Sea, but naval searches revealed nothing. With the situation in China being very precarious the Chinese High Command decided to launch a series of low odds suicidal attacks.

First attack by the Chinese. Disorganized but can live with the result.

2nd Chinese attack. Much more for the chinese but we took the hex.

The turn continues but the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Germany land, Italy and Japan combined.

Nobody expected the Chinese to attack across the straits to take Kiungchow on Hainan. Nobody has yet informed the Emperor.

But contingencies are in place. An amph picks up the Tokyo Militia from Canton.
