Ok. Now that I'm close to caught up in the other AARs I can update on this game. It's getting interesting.

Loka has bumped up the ASW recently. I'm still getting hits near the Chinese coast but now E groups are roving and I lost the Spikefish on the 2nd. I'll have to dig in and broaden patrols and bring some back a bit.

the heavies up North continue pinprick strikes against the HI. Better than nothing until a closer airfield is available.

The first in a long, quick succession of invasions and (hopefully) conquests is about to commence. Allied fleets will converge and aim for Peurto Princessa on the 3rd and drop two supported divisions to tackle the 10k IJA troops in the hex. This will help solidify the LOC to the South China Sea and establish a good search and recon base for next stage ops.

The Allies are also marching on Jesselton on Borneo and Praebemolih on Sumatra, on hex out of Palembang. That will be the extent of Allied ops there once it is taken, giving a decent field to support action toward Malaya. The Japanese are reported to have 80k+ troops at Palembang, so I'll skip that for a while. [;)]

All troops make it ashore easily and without too much disablement. There is no response from the IJN or air strikes from Manilla and Clark. After a few days rest the Allied troops begin the battle, and get a 1:1 while lowering forts in the first DA. Losses are very low on both sides, but the attack bodes ell for a quick campaign.

All Allied fleets pull back the day after the landings finish and will go back to Manado to reload and prepare for the next round.

After significant aerial assault Praboemoelih falls easily.

All goes to plan in the PI with Puerto Princessa falling on the 7th. The last vestige of Japanese troops on Mindanao is also being engaged on Mindanao, essentially ending any threat to the Southern PI. All nearby bases are suppressed and cut off from supply, so the troops will wither and we will move past the majority of them.

Some Ki-83 have been sweeping big bases, including Batavia, where I have a massive set of fighters and bombers all resting. I'm daring his bombers to venture ito the flak storm here, but I don't expect that will happen. So I've found the best way to beat the Ki-83 is to not fly CAP unless necessary! [:D]

Soon that will all change as I need to CAP new bases in formerly enemy territory. I have some ideas, but will also try to take it to them rather than wait for it to come to me.

Here is a quick preview of coming events. Troops are loading now. CVs are transiting around Borneo. Surface fleets are gathering. The most recent development is that a set of para-units is moving to Sinkawang to hit more extended bases shortly after the main invasions of Southern Malaya are secured. I'll also hit vacant bases on Indochina to sever that rail link to Saigon in anticipation of another landing later. Excited to get it all going!

The good news is the last Japanese officer didn't surrender on until 1974 Hiroo Onoda. So you have hope of holding out a little longer.

You don't need to take Palembang, you just need to keep him from getting oil and fuel from it. If there are that many troops there, then they aren't elsewhere.

For your subs, have you considered putting some minefields in shallow waters that his convoys go through? Even if they just detour into deep water, that should help your subs a little.

Exactly. I've already bombed out most of the oil and he hasn't been moving anything there recently. I never planned to take it, but I know he's built it up as it is great territory to defend. He may even have been sending more troops in, as I don't remember it being this beefed up. Singers on the other hand, has "only" 50k.

On the 9th the Allies take Surigao. These troops are already prepping for next destinations and will move on once this regiment is eliminated.

Loading continues at Batavia unwatched by Japanese recon. He's also restricted naval search to about 5 hexes from Singers. I've got some DDs stationed off of Singkawang that have been unnoticed for over a week. This is good because I'd like to go into Mersing and Malacca without him ever seeing the fleets gather. No combat ships are reported in the area, so that part will be clear at least, but naval strikes could be set to a restricted range, so I'll have to be careful.

The only action these turns is the persistent suppression of IJ bases on NW Borneo and in the PI. I want focus to continue over there, and for him to assume the recent move to Puerto Princessa is to prepare an assault deeper into the PI, not South or West. All is loaded and ready and moves into position on the 13th. A map is posted below. Ready to roll! [8D]

On the 14th the undetected amphibs drop troops at Mersing in good order and the covering bombardments devastate Singers fields with nearly 150 planes destroyed on the ground. [&o]

Two of the four scheduled had an impact, while the other two tangled with mines and limped home. I'll lose probably two DD with another 10-12 due yard time in Soerabaja and one cruiser slightly damaged as well. Altogether very acceptable losses. It looks like the Japanese had no idea this was coming as there were no return air strikes and Mersing was vacant.

The Malacca landing goes in tomorrow, and anything already in strat mode could be caught there trying to evacuate if he decides to bail rather than defend. Since there was no bombardment he has no idea the extent of the landing, but I'm sure can see from search rollovers that something major is being dropped here.

Within the next week landings and paras will hit another handful of bases. The next on the list are Kota Bharu, Patani, Victoria Point, and the three Southern bases in Indochina, Soc Trang, Rachgia, and Kompong Trach. Ampibs will then load up for Hue, Tourane and Quinhon, followed quickly by Kwangchowan and Pakhio, with the smaller base opposite Samah on Hainan, Kiungshan, targeted as well. This will give a good foothold on the mainland and threaten to cut off a lot of IJA troops pushed well forward into Burma and on Malaya, as well as entrenched int eh Chinese mountains.

I'll also target some mountain bases like Luangprabang with paras from Burma. That one at least has a field so I can add more after capture, possibly.

The LOC continues to be strengthened as well, with Jesselton being invested and threatened with capture tomorrow, and the feisty garrison at Jolo threatened by a reinforced landing of three armoured units there. I hope to get both within the next week.

It should, although I think there haven't been many shipment in the last 3-4 weeks either. There are probably some stashes at Manila and maybe he'd pushed some along to Indochina, so it may not have stopped flooding North just yet. This does cut off Medan, the last big producing oil center.

Subs are protecting the NE flank mostly, with a few more hunting off of China, and some out near the HI. There isn't much moving lately other than E boats. I want them to tell me when the KB starts closing though, so they are in the area where that might happen.

The landing at Malacca goes well supported by a decent hit from 2E based at Singkawang and a good supporting naval bombardment. A tank brigade is also now one hex South and will move up for the attack to hopefully pursue the brigade here. Other units are moving to isolate Singers by taking Johore Baru.

The Japanese units all over Malaya seem to be bugging out. I'll be landing at Patani and Kota Bharu next but might find everything deserted. I see also some units are getting to Udon Thani to get out of Indochina by that route. It'll be interesting when I land over there.

The Victoria Point troops are also a few days out from that invasion. No sightings yet as he's not flying naval search out there from Sabang or other bases.

Troops are loading for Tourane, Quinhon and Hue now. Hard to find enough ships to haul them all!

I'm not sure what mod you are playing, could not find it in the first post. But if refineries produce supply it might be better to get into Palembang ASAP to stop oil production and hence deprive refineries of their resource. They will exhaust the stock rather quickly and then supply production stops. Otherwise, you might be in for a lot of waiting the dwindling

There's something like 35 oil centres there but the Allied bombers completely control the air and I've been bombing the airfields and port lately to make sure there is constant pressure on the troops there. I'll keep hitting the remaining oil but also continue eating at supply, and eventually bombing troops.

So. This one is still chugging along. Getting to a better pace now as I have got the major elements of massive Allied invasions loaded up and moving toward targets. This will be interesting. A delicately balanced set of targets all staged within a few days of one another over several weeks. On the 16th the Allies sink a few small ships around Malaya and begin the walk toward Singers.

On the 17th Malacca falls and paras attempt Kota Baru to secure its level 8 field. They fail on day one, but hopefully with a little help from the USN will get it on the next try. I have the entire 11th Airborne to commit here.

The Boston was on a bombardment mission. It aborted after the mines. Nothing sunk though, so that's fine.

Yep. I think he's trying to bug out. The paras will just keep coming. So will air strikes and bombardments. unless reinforced there is no chance to hold in a clear hex.

This game has been moving forward a bit faster, at 2-3 turns a week lately. Feels good to see the plans get going.

The Allies this turn captured a few bases in Malaya using para-drops, and engaged at others where they met resistance. At a few they might have stopped IJA retreats though as units got into strat mode and were stalled by the assaults. This will prove more decisive later as the Victoria Point invasion is about to land. That will eventually cut off the rest of Malaya and all of the troops now around the middle area, which appear to be mostly armoured units.

Kota Baru is captured, which has a well-positioned level 8 airfield. This will be instrumental in defending transports moving up the peninsula, engaging the remaining Japanese forces in upper Sumatra and the upcoming invasion of Southern Indochina.

The Japanese launch a small strike at the Allied invasion forces which the CAP swats away easily. I'm not sure he'll go for anything significant, but I plan to bombard Bangkok fields soon just in case. There are about 150 fighters there now.

Singers and Palembang continue to be suppressed as more troops land at Malacca and Mersing and march toward Singers. I have about 35-40 days of prep before I will be able to risk a crossing at Singers, so I'll work on industry and supply during that time and eventually switch to hitting ground troops. I've seen no reduction in numbers either at Palembang or at Singers. I'm guessing his forts are high in both locations and he's willing to let these 160k troops sit until defeated.

The Japanese have a large number of troops at Udon Thani and appear to be retreating forces all over the Southern region. I see movement from Victoria Point as well. The invasion will land on the 20th. Hopefully some of these forces will be caught before railing out, but even if not, I'll be landing in China soon as well! [:)]

The landings work at Vicky Point. I had distant cover from the DS and only two CVE in the invasion TFs so surprise was key here. One group of Lilys impaled themselves flying without escorts.

The Japanese don't seem to believe in flying naval search. None of the TFs moving through the South China Sea have been detected. One amphib went boldly ahead for the Kompong Trach landing a bit faster than anticipated and outstretched it's air cover as well. It shows no detection though. Could have been a disaster, but it is very risky for the Japanese to keep air strikes on in an unpredictable situation with Allied CVs lurking around.

On the 21st the troops do land at Kompong Trach as the DS shifts into position near Rachgia. One group of kami Franks launches and is completely wiped out.

Bangkok is hit by bombardements at night from the navy and sweeps during the day. The op is successful, netting a solid 2.5:1 ratio overall with over 80 IJ fighters destroyed. On the 21st Soc Trang will be taken by para drop (it's empty) and an ID and a combat engineer unit will land there to march on Saigon.

As those ops are completed the DS will shift out as if retiring, but in fact will move into the South China Sea to meet the next wave of invasion which will target Quinhon, Tourane and Hue with D-Day looking to be within about a week. Troops are loaded from Mindanao and Manado and moving to join their surface and air cover TFs near Kudat.

Part of this op is transferring the large number of amphibs from the IO into the DEI through the straits and bringing them over to load for the follow-on ops in China. The APA/AKA/LSI have mostly unloaded at Victoria Point and are reforming to move tomorrow toward Singkawang. Air cover has moved in to Malacca, Mersing, Kota Baru and a base force will unload at Georgetown tomorrow to allow more air cover to operate there. This is al moving very quickly and has been assisted by the quick retreat of Japanese forces from Malaya, leaving little to oppose a quick transition and utilisation of the very good bases there.

Here is a look at next up. While these move in to unload, other TFs are heading back to Manado, Cotabato, Dadjangas and Kudat to load the next wave for Pakhoi, Kwangchowan, and then for Follow-on troops to land at the captured bases in China and threaten IJA retreat paths.

Destroying IJA troops is a big VP priority to counter the large permanent VP lead the Japanese now hold. Speed is key in this op to allow the fewest troops to escape past the blockades into central China. Everything is calibrated precisely, but the japanese can throw a few wrenches in the plan if they predict what is happening. We'll see.

This is going well so far. A lot of amphibs now gathered in the South China Sea and undetected. The DS shifts to cover and moves near Soc Trang.

There have been troops at Sabang for a long while, landed by Bullwinkle and isolated after failing to capture the base. I'm about to resupply them by taking other bases on Sumatra and marching tanks in to relieve their position. Some DMS tried to sweep mines there but encountered some stiff CD gun fire, so glad I decided to turn the supply ships toward Georgetown.

Heavy sweeps fro two days in a row go in to Kompong Trach. The Allies get the upper hand both days. First against the DS, then against an LBA CAP flying high. A lot of IJA/IJN pilots lost, which is great. The DS is now up near Cam Ran Bay.

The B-29s from Shemya get a good strike on Kushiro resources, but I forgot to turn about half of them off the next day and they were hit hard by some Georges. Lost about 15. [:(]
