Great .. i also closely had a look at supply in china .. looks fine and both ichang and yenen are ordered to rebuild the lost fort levels. both cities now fine with supply.

The british also kicked out the japanese in burma ( hex NW of mandalay ) this secures the RR nicely

the units that did this are ordered back to defend the riverline West of Mandalay.

also the 1st Burma rifles is recovering very well in anasol .. only the supprt personell are notcibly short ( still need 40 ish) .. the inf is at full along with heavy weapons .. the 2nd Burma rifles arrived here today too .. one week to recover then back to mandalay. this switching and swopping of units from a malarial base makes the defence of burma so much tougher. more hurricanes moved to mandalay so he cant intercept the dakotas.

Even though he is using subs to attack he is loading up pretty strong forces .. 5-700 troops for invasion . so i dont consider this gamey at all .. he out numbers me in dili 2-1 .. dakotas at derby to fly in the zanzibar bde <SP> ( its a dutch garrison that has recovered in australia) .. also all a/c in koepang to hit as ground support and for the first timer in the war B17E's from darwin will bomb the beaches too. Hopefully i will hold Dili .. as i really dont want it to become a jap fighter base ..

i am amazed he can carry so many troops in subs ! .. is this normal for japanese ? although recon says the group is 4 subs and 3 AK's ?????? very bizarre ..

One mystery was solved a few turns back .. the aussie 30th brigade that i was bemoaning hadnt been increasing in size .. found another fragment in perth that was getting all the new troops.. its now heading to rejoin the parent unit in koepang .. so i will have 3 full strength aussie brigades and refreshed dutch garrisons for the defence when the time comes.

Keeping 32 Dakotas in australia instead of moving them up to india is really paying off . and the ones in RAF service are moving troops around instead of supplying china . and china is fine supply wise.

The japanese troops in the PI are i imagine badly battered , maybe he will wait before re-using them for the final attacks on sumatra and Java .. Given that the DEI is lasting so long i am tempted to try and reinforce Java with brits and aussies ( from india/australia) respectively .. any suggestions ? is this a good idea ? or will i create a large allied POW camp. One aussie Div is prepping for PM .. still unsure about whether to defend here or not ?

also in the news the 5 US CV's and 3 oilers are moving from Perth to Derby .. where i will evetually deploy 5 US CV 2 Brit CV .. and 6 brit BB's .. quite a large force ! + assorted CA /CL/DD escort too.

2 US carriers upgraded to F4 today too .. the units are stood down for the transit but 3 F3 squdrons are flying cap .. only the float planes will fly search though .. the DB and TB are still set to naval attack range 4 0% search .. sort of stealthy.

dili looks to be the next hot spot and some allied Cl's and DD;s sent to bombard from koepang under LR buffalo cap. should hit in the next day or so .. the DD's may even bag a transport sub .. fingers crossed.


any ideas anyone ? it looks very rosy for the allies at present and im tempted to try a new op somewhere ( except the north pac which is so supply short it isnt funny )

Its looking like China is much more of a challenge yes?

China is a very intersting place and has been from the start. Ken likes to try encircleing and the level 9 forts hepled me massively as the cities survived long enough for relief columns (i.e big wodjes of men) to try and break the siege. success at ichang yesterday but yenen road still severed. although one open hex allows in some supply and is an escape route if necessary.

Also supply in china is much much better. especially not losing the big front line production cities in central china.

Ken must be pondering / screaming at the monitor .. for the next turn as no reply today.I am a very happy allied bunny right now

While i have tested it in Head to head, my two PBEM vic_ er "opponents" leave China strictly alone given i took away the prizes in the forward cities... so I was watching your Chinawar with interest.

hope i can provide some good info for you Nik .. screenie of china coming up soon too. My take is the the 'old' way of attacking china i.e able to conduct 2 offensives is no longer possible without great pain. one big jap offense would imo work but that slows down the china war considerably and as china if you can guess that japan has amassed one huge army i think its is stoppable ( with care).

I have no real interest in using the chinese offensively nor basing allied 4E units to hammer the resources here so i am not tersting to breaking point as our little war is reasonably historical and no gaming the engine allowed.

Ichang is fine now .. 3 more corps assigned and 2 HQ for defence. firsly they will clear out the blocking forces .. some chinese units round ichang were very very badly depleted and ordered back to chungking for refits.. the rest i am unsure of .. the jap retreat hex is a royal pain the backside !

He keeps up those attacks in China and the entire army is going to be a mess.

The AA is there to hurt KB .. he can only really take baker using massed carrier forces now .. so i want it to be as much trouble as possible .. might well be overkill though .. also all the artillery will destroy any AP landing ships too. he has a long way back for repairs and might catch a few unwary DD's if he bombards using escorts [;)]

Its basically one HUGE trap ! ( and not needing the Cv's either so its a lot safer from my perspective).

Isolating KB is one reason why i don't tend to expand much outside of Japan's original defense perimeter. I'd much rather use KB in conjunction with my interior lines and LBA support....a winning combination. Still....with all that gunpower concentrated at that one isolated point....what are your other bases looking like? Usually i won't devote more than two AA units to any one base as there are a number to cover. Even if the Japan player takes them it will still be a bit on the costly side...nothing for free in other words.

(as a comparison, i'm at 4/43 in an old 2.0 game....stopped my expansion at the Solomons and New G. and dug in. ) Used KB as a raiding tool only scoring some notable successes....the last being the sinking of 40+ TK's near Baker.)

need more at noumea then spread out to cover luganville and efate.

Iam in th process of moving the split 1/3 rds' of 25th div on PH to midway/johnson/paymyra

also a small island south of chrismas ( dot base) will become a size 1 af tomorrow .. its really useful to transfer fighters to/from central-south pacific.

fighter cover is very patchy but bombers patrol from all bases and PBY chain set up too.

This is really my defensive line with baker an a bonus.. if its ever seriously threatened i can sub evac some if i have too as canton has an AS in port. and is my main South Pac sub hub

Looks good....what about the Central pacific? Well one thing's for sure.....the mod will demonstrate that KB was more properly a "raiding" force vs a an attritional force ala the late war TF's of the USN.

Actually if you have your CV's nearby you could score a potential Midway too.

Central pac is midway etc .. 1/3 div ( regiment) on each .. but not much else .. the hilo BF is now on palmya ( av support c.90) and a/f 4 operatins A20's on a naval search role. ( crummy range but they can find/hit subs).

PH itself has plenty of stuff ! ,, cannot remember off hand .. but at least 2 div of equivalent and lots of 'smaller' units.

the N pacific is being completely ignored and n Pac troops sent to the south and central ( no sending the nor pac hq to kerachi cheat).

Yes i 'could' use my carriers as an ambush force for baker but i really want to try and hold timor in this game ( i always lose it in other games) so its the main focus of defence .. also being central the RN is able to help out too.

should baby KB try and escort an invasion of Timor it will get thoroughly destroyed ! .. only a full jap commitment wil have much hope imo.

"Still....i almost feel guilty." nah don't if i was japan i may feel differantly however. neither side has had an air attack vs carriers ( may pull one off tomorrow ) so the 'leak' % is unknown other than your demos and AAR's as a guide. I want to try it on japan rather than be the sacrificial lamb. leaking nells and betties give me heebie jeebies .. i HATE those planes [:D]

Yes, works both ways.....alot less 2E's get the chop making nells and beatties much more dangerous potentially though they still need a good escort. Baby KB won't stand a chance against a three-four CV USN grouping. Yikes.
