Started re-watching The X-Files from season 1. We are binge watching it.

So what is your verdict? Has it aged well?

LOL, I have no opinion yet. My wife and I wanted to start with the original series by watching all 9 seasons. In 6 days we have blazed through seasons 1,2 and half of 3. Once we watch all the original episodes I will watch the new series.

Finally got around to watching Big Hero 6. Verdict? Yet another winner from the Disney Pixar stable [&o][&o]

I finally watched Gracepoint the US version of Broadchurch

I had read reviews that it wasnt as good as the UK version, and sadly I agree. It looked good. but was just missing the tension.

Oh well, theres still 2 seasons of Broadchurch for me to get to [:'(]

You are of course correct - it was Walt Disney Animation Studios and not Pixar. Apparently their latest release, The Good Dinosaur, has not gone down well which is a bit of a shocker for Pixar.

You are of course correct - it was Walt Disney Animation Studios and not Pixar. Apparently their latest release, The Good Dinosaur, has not gone down well which is a bit of a shocker for Pixar.

Personally I think the worst thing that happened to them was getting bought by Disney.

Pixar in the past put out I think 1 movie every 2 years...maybe 1 every year.

Since the Disney purchase they have been putting out I think 2 a year?

Not only that...some of the sequels that Disney is dictating they make are mind-numbing.
Do we really need a Finding Nemo 2?
Cars 2 (and 3 for that matter)?
Monsters U?

All three of those movies were great (well Cars was merely good...story line was way too much Doc Hollywood for me) as stand along movies. They didn't need sequels.

The one movie I wanted a sequel, was made for a sequel and they've pushed it off for almost 20 yrs (The Incredibles)

bahhhhhhhhhhhh...sorry for the rant. I just hate when mega-conglomerates take a good thing and utterly destroy it (See EA with Bullfrog...Maxis...Bioware...etc.)

Each to their own of course but I have to say I do not agree. I cannot see that Disney have been anything but a positive influence. Indeed all 16 feature films that Pixar have released have been under the Disney ‘banner’. 2015 is the first time that Pixar released two films in one year. The plan is to release one film a year and one sequel every other year.

Sequels tend to be cheap and easy ways to make a quick buck riding on the coat tails of the original but Pixar have avoided that in the main. I mean can anyone decide which is the best Toy Story? Unlike The Godfather, I, II AND III were top drawer [;)]. Monsters University is, arguably, better than the original too. Like you I have been waiting for The Incredibles II but it’s interesting – and comforting – to hear the reasons why the sequel has been so delayed; simply put, Pixar are not going to put any old rubbish out. Only three animated films have ever been nominated for best picture at the Oscars – all three are Disney and two have been Disney Pixar (Toy Story 3 and Up).

The only Pixar films I haven’t seen are Cars, Cars II and The Good Dinosaur and so cannot comment, but otherwise just look at the output (as I say, all under Disney):

Toy Story - Brilliant
Toy Story II – Equally Brilliant
Toy Story III – Third film in the franchise but not even the merest hint of a let up in quality
A Bug’s Life – A solid, watchable film
Monsters Inc – Very, very good
Finding Nemo – Absolute quality
The Incredibles – See Finding Nemo
Ratatouille – A film that gets better on second viewing
WALL-E – Thought provoking
Up – Very good film but the first 20 minutes are sheer cinematic gold
Brave – Very good stab at the Princess genre
Monsters University – Better than the original
Inside Out – Brilliant, original idea

Sorry but I cannot see how Disney have ‘utterly destroyed’ Pixar.

You have a point War - Disney bought pixar a lot earlier than I thought (2006)

I still enjoy most of their films however I feel like the tone in them has changed...but hey, that's my opinion...with that and a dime you can buy yourself a piece of Bazooka bubblegum.

Spurred on by playing DC:B I've started re-watching the Battlefield Series. What a really good series of WWII documentaries that was [&o]

.....and this weekend I introduced my elder warspite to that iconic series The World At War.

Great to watch with my children (although younger warspite wasn't quite as interested!), just as my dad watched it with my brother and I back in the 1970's.

Absolute quality production, and of course delivered with such gravitas by Sir Laurence Olivier [&o].

This was this first film documentry of WWII I watched that really got me more interested in The War...also my first vision of Adolf Hitler in moving pictures! Sir Laurence Oliver for me was The Voice of WWII...enjoy Robert & family!

Indian Summers Season 2 is back on Sunday - Hussah!!

Watched Episode 1 of Doctor Thorne - very good it was too [:)]

Hot off the heels from reading The Black Dahlia, I re-watched L.A Confidential. What a great film that is [:)]
