Wow what a story!
I agree.
The best part that I like is how he was drafted in the US Army and not the Navy, afterwards he was then pulled out by the Merchant Marine! I would have thought that with his experience, he would have been put on a ship. The US Army did run transport ships (USATs in the game) so he could have been put there or better yet, into the US Navy itself.
Just like someone that I met who went to a trade school for welding but then he was drafted and turned into a cook!

Of course, of the 60 days of leave he took in Europe only 3 days were counted against him. After all, when the clerks wanted to have a steak dinner . . . .

Then the locals would buy large bags coffee so he also had spending money . . . .

General Friedrich von Paulus pleads with the Fuhrer and the German High Command for supplies and reinforcements for his army, under siege at Stalingrad. He receives nothing but the order to fight to the last man.
The Japanese submarine I-36 launches a floatplane for a reconnaissance flight over Pearl Harbor. The pilot and crew report on the ships in the harbor, after which the aircraft is lost at sea.
German Jews no longer allowed meat, wheat products, milk, or eggs.
US War Production Board mandates tin can collection in cities with a population greater than 25,000.
I think that the reconnaissance flight over Pearl Harbor launched from I-36 was in 1943.

Thank you, again, for the fun, and interesting read.
