Steam is having heart palpitations today. Lots of lag, lots of 502 faults.

Nothing new there. It's a big sale event and Steam usually struggles with server load although this time in my experience Steam has been better than usual and has been reachable whenever I've tried to access it.

The sale runs until Jan 3rd so everyone has plenty of time to get what they want.

Syrian Warfare and Graviteam Mius-Front, although both RTS are quite different then what your mentioning you like. There´s no base building, resources etc. These are more realistic oriented RTS, a couple of shots gets kills etc. There more like Combat Mission then anything else, not even Men at War is similar.
I know that much. Besides Ground Control series don't have base building at all, and it's my favourite RTS.

Is it me or steam sales were better in the past?

The Seven Years War (1756-1763) is 90% off.

There is also a bundle which includes the DLCs.

Good price. Game has rotatable camera that can be zoomed in to very close, infantry can take cover inside the buildings, and player can gain points over time that can be used to call in reinforcements with more income for completing objectives, like securing supplies. Also vehicles have strong front but weak rear, or vehicles lose more HP from rear hits (as in original GC). I recommend it.

I don't actually have it. I thought about getting it whilst it is on sale - but I'm not very interested in the economic management part of the game. It has had mixed reviews on Steam. There are various reviews elsewhere - including at the Wargamer:

RTS games Homeworld Deserts of Kharak and Homeworld Remastered are 80% off on Steam and GOG.

I'm not really a RTS player but I believe these both have 'Tactical Pause' which I would need. Not sure though?

I'm tempted, but anything with Graphics as nice as Kharak would probably play poorly on my PC.

Anyone care to recommend a good turn based WW2 game? Maybe it will also be on sale.

I've played all the Battle Academy games but not sure what else is out there that is NOT real time.

The Panzer Corps series are fun, addicting games. Not too detailed, somewhat realistic in a broad, general way. Can be tough to win on higher difficulty levels.

Re The Seven Years War. A later patch enables you to let the AI run your economy. It does a much better job than I ever did! This game is a MUST BUY at that price, if only for the individual battles simulated. You need never play a campaign, and still get your moneys worth.

1. Go to this page
2. Click on Timeline All and choose World War II
3. Browse the games, open in new window that has your fancy and check details if it's real-time or whichever variety of turn-based
4. If it isn't on sale in the site, click on Steam link to see if it is on sale over there

I pulled trigger for Syrian Warfare and gave it a test run. Very similar to Ground Control 2, just with more polish, some advances, and more micromanagement: engineers can lay variety of mines and player can order vehicle crews to abandon their rides. Quite decent RTS with historical background to boot.

Glad you like it Kuokkanen. Yes it´s similar to GC2. It does get tough though as you go on. Have fun!
