I'm reading "Over The Top; Alternate Histories of the First World War" edited by Peter Tsouras and Spencer Jones. A series of short stories by several authors on "what ifs" from WWI. Got it cheap for the Kindle at Amazon so figured why not. First story was most intriguing involving the Germans abandoning Schleiffen and going with an actual plan they had exercised with up until 1913 that involved 3 armies holding off the French and one reserve one building in Germany with everyone else going after the Russians. Often wondered myself if that would have worhed. No invasion of Belgium so no Britain in the war and so on. Think I paid a $1.99 for it on the Kindle

It's "excellent" in my opinion, and is packed full of true accounts from veterans' letters and first- & second-hand accounts. It has really presented for me the experience of being under bombardment and machinegun fire 24 hours a day for days straight.

Orm, I have not tried MMPs The Blitzkrieg Legend yet, how is it? I have been seriously looking at buying the reprint of Guderians Blitzkrieg, but the fear of the wife unleashing her own blitzkrieg on me if I do has stayed my hand for the time being. [:D]

I have but tinkered yet with The Blitzkrieg Legend, but if the topic (and OCS games) interests you at all it is a must buy. Quite tough on Germans, who are only coming to grips with Blitzkrieg, against quality Allied forces who are cumbersome to move around.

I own Beyond The Rhine and The Mighty Endeavor, but none of the other titles.

Just finished Young Bloods and have now started The Generals, both by Simon Scarrow. Historical fiction about Napoleon and Wellington. There is also a third volume but the name escapes me at the moment.

Andreas, I have not read Part I, Roosevelt: The Lion and the Fox (1882–1940), I certainly would like to! Yes, I do recommend Soldier of Freedom, James MacGregor Burns is a good writer! [:)]

Thank you - I will get me these two books (as e-book, Lion and the Fox is too expensive as hardcover). There's only one book I own about Roosevelt, that's Conrad Black's Roosevelt; Champion of Freedom, but that's a huge (and heavy) 1200 page hardcover, which is very impractical to read.

Conrad Black's FDR bio has gotten great reviews...one I have added to my wishlist! [:)]

Re-reading Morison's "History of US Naval Operations in WWII". What I had forgotten after so many years is the brilliant texture of the of the writing. He manages to communicate an enormous amount of data in a insouciant manner that is relaxed and assured.

Since he did experience many of the places and people he writes about, he effortlessly breaks the "4th wall" of narrative—personal observations of commanders and the like—but these never seem to ruffle the formal nature of "official" history.

I am also re-reading Malaparte: "Kaputt", "The Volga Rises in Europe" and "The Skin." An amazing personality who wrote astonishing and horrifying episodes of the war. NOT for the squeamish.

I'm reading Daughters of the Bride by Susan Mallery.

Don't worry guys, I do have some military literature. I've been re-reading off and on snippets from my series Brotherhood of War by WEB Griffin. Did anyone ever read that series? (it's not new, came out last century).

Yes. I've read most of the Brotherhood of War series. Twice actually. First time I chain read the books to a point where I got somewhat annoyed and felt I needed a break. It got so extended that when I got back to the books I decided to begin anew. And I got to almost the same spot as the first time and there I needed a breather once more.
