MTB G-156 arrives at Hiroshima/Kure – MTB Division 15 is starting to form up with all 15# boats to join it. I expect it will be faster to return them all to the pool then pay supply to make them reappear somewhere in the Pacific where they might be put to some sort of use. I will return them to the pool when all of G-150 to 159 are on the map then try to make them reappear at Truk or Manus, to deploy in short hops forward from there.
MTB G-10 arrives at Yokohama/Yokosuka – The first boat of MTB Division 1. It has a larger displacement and slightly longer legs than the G-15# class.
Aoba-1 arrives at Tokyo – bought back. As a previous CA float plane det it will resize to 24 on one of the converting BBs at Kure, then receive 50+ experience pilots with decent naval search and ASW skills. Next war I will resize FP units to size 27 so that they have the standard 3x flights of 9 aircraft each. As Commander 2nd Fleet was careless enough to allow all of CA Furutaka, Kako, Aoba and Kinugasa to be sunk, the float plane dets of each will return to SWAF to bolster naval search and ASW patrols along the Burma coast.
Wotje Base Force arrives at Tokyo – will fill out and move forward to a small base in the Marianas like Pagan.

The score in the air today was a massive 206 : 71.
Total pilot casualties around the Empire were 19x WIA and 19x KIA.
It looks like a lot of the top aces didn’t fly today, but those with >10 fatigue probably did.
There are a lot more IJAAF pilots on 18 kills than when I last looked at the aces list.

Aircraft losses were 94 to 41, but with about 59x 4E bombers the points ratio in the air was more like 153:51 or 3:1.
So while at first glance it looks like a big win, when trying to keep a better than 3:1 points ratio by 1 Jan 44 that is just breaking even!

Pilot losses were “only” 12x KIA, 9xWIA around the Empire today.

Of the IJAAF aces shown here most of these Sentai were on trains out of Dacca after the fights yesterday so the kills today went to the second line 25th, 64th, 66th and 70th Sentais.

Of the 6x IJN task forces in hex 132,100 only CL Div 6 is spotted with 2/2 detection. The Allies might just think that is a resupply run to Wake Island.

Moving 8 hexes to the red circle hex would put KB within 7 hexes of Wotje which has 24 ships in port including at least 9x AO spotted here that must have fuel on board, plus I assume some fully bombed up AKEs.

There are only about 24 Allied fighters spotted at each of Roi-Namur and Wotje.
There are about 200+ guns spotted at Wotje so the assumption is lots of AA guns.
The only Allied ships in port at Roi-Namur seem to be LCTs.
There is an interesting looking task force of 2xCA and some DDs at Kwajalein. It could be a decent surface combat task force or it could be a fast transport task force. KB will end up just outside of 6 hex reaction range of that task force.
The APD/DD/DE task force spotted moving NE was the one that just saw 2x LST hit by Nells from Wake Island. It moved 6 hexes NE from where it was spotted yesterday. It will probably be ordered to move directly east to try and get outside of Nell range, but they might not be able to move far enough. It will end up outside of range of KB strikes tomorrow but that’s ok.

KB’s DBs will be set to naval strikes at 15k’ only to try and avoid the land based AA guns.
KB’s TBs will be set to naval strikes at 15k’ with port attack targeting Wotje to level bomb from 15k’ to try and avoid most of the flak.

There is a risk that the USN CVs show up somewhere, but so far nothing else is spotted within the long range Emily and Nell search arcs shown here.
The attacks tomorrow could cost a few Kate pilots but the opportunity to sink something like 20x Allied auxiliaries is here.
Is this opportunity worth risking a few thousand points in IJN ships? Probably not, but we shall see how it goes tomorrow!

If all goes well tomorrow, there might be a chance for the BB and CL task forces to bombard Roi-Namur the day after, before scooting west back through the Allied submarine swarm towards Truk.

SITREP from Bengal.

The Allies just crossed the Brahmaputra River unopposed in two places and are threatening to encircle Dacca. A stack of 20 Allied units is following from the NW and another 10 from the W. It looks like 1x US Div just “NE” of Dacca with a British Bde one more hex to the NE.

All combat troops at Dacca are already packed and on the trains ready to move out. They will move today just in case the US Div moves forward and cuts the railway, leaving a rearguard of some AA units. As the Allies have given up on daytime bombing of Dacca already, all but one AA unit will now pack up and move if they can escape in time. One will be left behind so that the Allies have to attack the city and destroy the fortifications in the process.
IJA troops will hold Rangpur until the 2nd Tank Div, 51st and 56th Divs get back to Darjeeling and move out by train, most likely back to Silchar.
IJA troops will then dig in amongst the rough terrain and get set for delay / withdrawal operations.

The Allies will most likely move on Chittagong after they take Dacca, but the plan is for all IJA units still in Northern Bengal to withdraw via Northern Burma eventually towards China.

Phase 2 withdrawals will be the yellow arrows, hopefully not until Jan 1944.
