US forces successfully land and liberate Famagusta, Cyprus. The RN and USN provided 5 factors in ground support and 8 factors in naval support to the invasion.

RN carrier based planes are ineffective in a ground strike mission against a partisan occupying the city of Surabaya in the Dutch East Indies.

The land combat isn't. It's automatic. So why the ground strike? Why not at this point in the game.

No turning to Japan. The US plays an O-chit and takes a super-combined. While this isn't specific to combat operations in Japan it allows the US armed forces worldwide to do what they need to do, as illustrate by the combat operations in the Eastern Med (i.e., Cyprus) and in the Dutch East Indies.
The CW, China and the Soviet Union all take a land.
In Japan, the Western Allies carry out three land combats, one of which is preceded by a ground strike.

The subsequent land combat is painful (for the allies), but manages to destroy the garrison and capture the city. So, in the grand scheme, it's consider a success.

Kyoto is the only Japanese controlled city in Japan's home islands. Allied high command wants that city and they want it badly!
