Something I meant to bring up the other day, but was 'too out of it' (grand kids[:D]), was if you knew the port level of Wotje? If it is less than three you could possibly get a sub or two to penetrate the base. I don't know exactly how it works for regular subs, I guess by just stationing them in the base's hex they may attack ships in port. With all those oilers in the place it might be worth the chance to get a couple.

If nothing else you could build some mini-subs in Maloelap and sail them to Wotje, provided you have enough supply. IIRC the mini's range is three and could make it.

This could also work for any other target in the locale.

Yes but if you have subs in the area and can flood where he is appearing to go, your subs may get lucky. If nothing else, get them ready for the egress if you can't get them on the ingress.

22 hexes between the Combined Fleet and what looks like every CV and CVL in the USN Pacific Fleet.
There will be a time to charge recklessly into battle, but not until after 1 Jan 1944!

If the Allies are going for a Marianas invasion things could get very interesting over the next few days.
KB isn’t fully fuelled up so is ordered to divert to Guam/Saipan to make sure that all ships are full just in case the USN keeps moving West.

A few more IJN fighter units are ordered to concentrate in the Marianas as well.

Loss of SS I-178 on Dec 04, 1943 is admitted

Wake Coastal Gun Battalion was destroyed outright by the 9x USN BB bombardment.
At only 11 PP to buy it back it will return to Tokyo in 34 days.

The rest of the defenders are in remarkably good shape and the last Jake can still fly!
The two remaining Jake pilots will take off at first light and if they don’t crash on the way will have some stories to tell in the Marcus Islands Petty Officers Mess tonight!

The USN CVs back-tracked so the immediate threat of an invasion of the Marianas has passed.
Assuming that this is a dress-rehearsal for future Allied amphibious assaults, the IGHQ Intelligence staff are taking notes of the Allied tactics used here.

13th Garrison Unit and 12th Mortar Bn combine into the 27th Ind Mixed Bde.
This creates a bonus Engineer Coy of 8 squads, so well worth it!
MGEN Kunikata will retain command.

Mitsubishi Ha-43 engines start production.
The last Aichi Ha-60 factory will switch over to it then the 4x Ha-43 factories will expand to 150 each.
The 2x Nakajima Ha-35 factories are scheduled to switch to Ha-43 on 1 Jul 1944 as the Ha-35 pool will be big enough to last the rest of the war by then.

The Ha-43 engine is needed for planned big numbers of the George-5 and Sams (both CV and land models) plus some for the Shinden.
It will also be used to build limited production runs of the Ki-74 Patsy, Ki-83 twin-engine fighter and Ki-95 recon.

NE Turbojet is the only engine still being researched.

At only 11 PP to buy it back it will return to Tokyo in 34 days.

I've been fond of sending it to Bataan to act as a shield to Clark, Manila and Bataan itself from naval bombardment. Also has the benefit of being a narrow strait.

Otherwise I think there's a bit of a risk it gets bypassed, and Manila feels like a pretty important base for the Allies in the later stages of the war.

No immediate plans on the WCGBn.
I could probably use it somewhere like the Marianas then buy it back again for Bataan!

All those big guns probably cost a fair bit of supply to buy back each time though.
I’ve got a spreadsheet somewhere that I think I calculated it so will try to find it.
Probably worth spending a few grand in supply each timeto be able to use it a few times.

Forts were only 4.
It was probably closer to 2/3rds occupied before the big guns were destroyed.
I’ll blame Commander 4th Fleet for that!
Is it too late to bust him back to VADM?

11x CA/CL plaster Wake Island overnight followed by afternoon CV air raids.
Still no invasion but it can't be far behind now that the BBs, CA/CLs and CVs have all had a go at suppressing the defenders.

From what I’ve read, the Spitfire VIIIs were a game changer as they were more powerful and able to intercept Dinahs. Not something that seems to happen in the game, but within a few months of the Mk VIIIs arriving in India the IJAAF started to run out of Dinahs and were denied intelligence for bombing raids. They shouldn’t have as much success in this game as they have to face huge numbers of Franks that they didn’t have to deal with in real life.

The only surprise is that the Allies didn’t attack at Dacca 3 days ago.
No Allied base forces are present yet, so the Allies might not risk flying aircraft in until they can maintain them.

I’m expecting the next stop for the Allies to be Comilla to cut the railway to Chittagong, but that’s ok if they do as the IJA Divisions have already been allocated to three front line defensive sectors as indicated.
Main defensive positions are at Chittagong, Silchar and Rangpur.
Rangpur will be evacuated if directly threatened or when the Allies make moves to cut the railway out.
Allied moves that have been spotted are shown with white arrows, indicating that they are moving towards the rough terrain along their near bank of the Brahmaputra River.

For the next week or so while the Allies are moving through open country more Helens will move forward to bomb them.
The Helens don’t seem to do a lot of damage so they will mostly be harassing raids.
If the Helens fly with escorts they might be able to destroy enough enemy squads/devices to offset the number of planes lost in terms of victory points, especially with so many US, British and Aus squads in the target area.

Allied units are within Helen bombing range of Magwe and Katha now, so a few IJA Air HQs will start to be flown back from Bengal to those bases so that the bombing missions can be supplied from ships unloading supply at Rangoon instead of Chittagong.

AK-t Sado Maru and AK-t Kaga Maru collide in the Yokosuka hex on their way back to Tokyo.
CAPT Takatsugi and CDR Fujinaga are called in to HQ for a “please explain”. It should only cost a few PP to replace them so that will be done just on principle.
The crew of Kaga Maru have decent night experience for a merchant crew, perhaps it was from staying up all night plugging leaks to stop the flood damage caused by this collision.
As commissioned IJN ships now the current COs can be replaced by regular IJN LCDRs for 1x PP each.
CAPT Takatsugi was the bottom of the list, so LCDR Tsunoda will take command of the Sado Maru.
LCDR Taniguchi will take command of the Kaga Maru.
Coincidentally, they both now have 22 days to supervise the repair of their ships while their crews take some leave.
Officers with 50+ naval skill but low aggression seem best to command these AKs, but with such low crew skills it probably doesn’t matter much!

Some good news.
This tanker had a few points of fire burning last turn but the port services team at Siquijor redirected the garden hoses to help put the fires out.

4x Independent Infantry Bdes worth 144 AV each (once they fill out) will move towards the 1st Area Army defensive positions (Yenki-Mutankiang) over the next few days.
That will allow 23rd Div to move out by train followed by many km on foot towards their planned garrison position at Georgetown in Malaya.
It will still be many months until the Manchukuo Garrison is large enough for the 24th, 25th and 28th Divs to move out.

Saved the turn so I could run an experiment to see if it is worth paying the PP to allow 30th Div to recombine.
Sometimes combining the on map components allows bonus devices to be drafted in.
In this case… 846 PP just lets 30th Div recombine into what looks like an A grade TOE.
I reloaded the turn and 31st Div is similar, so I reloaded the turn again and left both as their original Regts for now.
