Finally time to catch up. Dan certainly keeps up on the turns, and we've been doing two a day sometimes, so not as much time as I'd like to update.

On the 31st the Allies get a 1:2 on Ketoi. It does well in disabling Japanese troops but doesn't lower forts. Still this looks like with the singular focus of constant bombardments and air strikes it won't take much longer to break through.

Down South troops are retreating in order and will make Rangoon and Pegu without serious threats against them. The NZ 12th Brigade land with about 1/3 disablements, probably not prepped completely.

On Nov 1 the Allied bring in yet more troops to Ketoi.

Near Pegu in the clear hex the Allies get decent bombing results but at a cost. They lose around 20 bombers on the day. Our troops will have good conditions to recover once they reach the base at Pegu.

On the 2nd the Allied DA gets a 1:2 again, miraculously, but the forts are dropped to 2. This is the beginning of the end. The Allies invaded on the 14th of July and so it looks like they'll get the base within about three weeks of that time.

The IJA makes it to Pegu without major losses, but several divisions have significant disablements. Now ofr some healing. The more healthy units will transfer from Rangoon and the injured will go there to be helped by the Southern Command HQ and better facilities.

A big day on the 3rd as heavy strikes hit Pegu. The CAP is waiting as does a decent job getting to bombers and cutting through the sweeps at a decent ratio. The Allies lose about 110 planes for about 90 Japanese. The Allied bombers are really getting hit now though, and I'm not sure how long his pools will last at this rate. all of the groups seem reduced in size recently, so they either have a lot of damaged or can't get enough replacements.

The Allies also take a shot on a DA near Rangoon, getting only a 1:3. They suffer pretty heavy losses, but the IJA has significant disablements too. Luckily all get back into the good terrain and level 6 forts of Rangoon now. It'll be a little while before the next attack, so they should have time to heal up.

The Allies unload yet another unit, an independent infantry regiment, onto Ketoi on the 4th. He's serious about getting this base finished soon. [;)]

A massive Chinese force walked into Paoshan over the last weeks and I had been curious how much. Now I know. It's 4,400AV against my one division with level 5 forts in the x3 mountain hex!! [X(]

The CAP stays in place at Pegu for the 4th and does well. Losses are in favour of the IJ but Spit sweeps take their toll. On the 5th I had to pull them out to regroup, but the flak does so well it doesn't matter. The Allies lose about bombers to flak at Pegu alone.

The Allies try a DA at Pegu which goes well for the IJ, keeping forts at 6 and resulting in heavy Allied losses.

The Allied forces at Ketoi finally overwhelm the defences. The base falls into Allied hands. So that was about a three week battle. I'm very curious what happens next here.

This is the situation with the Chinese. If you haven't been reading for the entire AAR the Chinese troops left China after the IJA conquered the entire nation. They replenished and filled out in India. Now they're flooding back through the mountains trying to break through. This is the first attack by any large force, and luckily it doesn't go well for them. even late it seems Chinese troops on their own struggle to break down high forts in good terrain.

I didn't use the W key to show bedsides, but the IJA hold the roads and the Chinese are trying to infiltrate in all areas, but have not won any hexes from the IJA yet.

I've got some tanks on the way I'd hoped would arrive before the attack. They should arrive within two days here, so in time for the next one.

It's complete carnage in the air again on the 6th and the 7th as the Allies revert to sweeping Sapporo and hitting Pegu. The CAP is ready, but the sweeps are extensive. Both sides suffer. Each loses about 100 planes on the 6th, but the Allies lose more fighters at Sapporo, with about 50 F4U-1D lost on the day, which is staggering. The best USN/USMC airframe I think produces about 140-150 a month, so that's 1/3 of production.

My fighter pools are non-existent, but the groups are numerous, so I can rotate in and out to let them build back up. The Frank Ki-84r is now production though, adding about 80/month to the Frank production as well, so that will help eventually. I've made a bold decision to convert many 2E IJAAF bomber groups to FB. This costs PP, but I don't have much to bomb anymore with Allied flak being so good. I'll never get even half of them anyway, but so far it's giving me another 50 FB every few weeks. Using them for training now but soon they'll be rear area bomber killers and let all fighters stay up front.

I'm also gearing up for the soon to arrive Ki-83 by increasing Hi-43 engine production. I'll also convert a lot of other factories once this arrives and try to get a big set of this fighter ready. Expensive, but worth it.

The P-51D is here. That will help the Allies as he get almost 150/month, and the P-47D25 is running out.

On the 7th the losses were higher as the CAP got to the bombers again. The Allies lose about 50 bombers and another 60-70 fighters to Japan's 70 fighters lost. A good day!!

It looks like the Allies have set up holding forces at Pegu and Rangoon and are now shifting troops toward Pegu and/or the small yellow road to the NE on the way toward Chang Mai.

On the 8th all CAP is down in Burma and no sweeps come up North. The Allies still lose 36 planes to flak and ops. Lots of 2E downed. On the 9th they lose another 18 total. It's tough to remember how deep those pools should be right now, so I'll have to take a look at my Allied game to see, since this is now only a month off in timing.

The garrison at Ketoi continues to be whittled down every day. I've not tried to get more off by transport as the CAP just shoots them down now. This should be an active Allied airfield very soon, but it's not any closer to Hokkaido than the ones he has already. Mainly an insurance for the LOC I think.

Another DA comes in the mountains courtesy of the Chinese. This one is defended easily, with tank now providing a solid punch to take a bigger chunk out of the attackers. This stack looks like it won't be breaking through anytime soon.

Well, it didn't take long. On the 10th the Allies storm onto the beaches at Urruppa-Jima. This base is a little more set up with about 1,300AV in place behind 6 forts. The same number of CD guns are in place, but they have little effect it seems on the landings.

The Allies have about 1,900AV so far, led by three USA IDs. IT's a balanced force, but no massive Engineer unit. Hopefully this one takes even longer than Ketoi to break down. I'll be doing virtually nothing up here until my fighter pools and pilots are recovered, and the CVs finished repairing.

Down South the flak keeps working. The Allies lose about 50 planes over these two days.

The Allies also try the first aerial mining of the war at night over Japanese bases. They are intercepted but not caught by the NF present everywhere. AMc are present in all of these bases.

On the 12th I reintroduced CAP to Burma with some additional groups. Losses were heavy for both sides on the 12th, but by the 13th the Japanese CAP had gained some control of the area. It feels like Allied bomber pools are showing some depletion as smaller and smaller groups arrive each day. The fighters too are many fewer than a month ago, and can't shut down the Japanese defenders after two days as before.

This all helps the situation as the Allies appear to be trying to move around Pegu. I've got a brigade there and it just beat an Indian brigade into the hex. A tank regiment is a day out and a tank and an infantry division are moving in. If I can evict this unit then the Allies are guaranteed to have to shock into this hex. It's only x2, but that is still a potential bonus I have to try for here.

The Allies continue to bombard, unload supply and bomb at Urrupa-Jima. Nothing to do but wait up here.

This is the situation now in Burma. The Allies have also moved a small Indian engineer unit to near Chang Mai. Sneaky, and I've been looking out for these too!

I've got a division from the reserves on the way to take care of that, and some bombers to help with the Indian Brigade. I need to strike there very soon before more units cross. I think he'll have to shock over anyway, so maybe it doesn't matter. I'm wary of him simply feigning here and going all in for Pegu, but I can also bring units from Rangoon to shore it up.

I think I'l sporadically bomb some Chinese too just to be annoying and help them use up their supply. [:)]

Any plans on trying to interdict the bombardment runs? Does he follow the same course when he heads in/out on his runs? Can you get subs in close enough to lay mines in the open ocean hexes he passes through? You could get lucky, but maybe you feel this is a waste of mines and an unnecessary risk to the subs.

I would love to do just this. I tried it at Ketoi, and lost about 3-4 subs while they were mining to Allied ASW. No hits from the mines. The Allied navies are very strong here now, and focused on one goal at a time.

If this invasion follows along the same lines as the one at Ketoi-Jima it will attract all Allied forces for the duration. That would give me time to start producing the Ki-83, and then suddenly have some offensive striking power back with that and the Ki-84r in full production and filling out groups by the turn of 45.

I have to hold back tendencies to want to act on this immediate threat and realise Uruppa falling to the Allies changes the strategic situation very little. So if I can let it buy me some time, then maybe I'll be in a better position after it's fallen than before.

All of that said. I still think surging some subs at the DS could be useful soon. His ASW is mostly focused on the bombardment paths. Maybe I could get lucky again?

Back at it now after being in Greece for a while. I'm about a week behind on the AAR now.

The Allies continue to relentlessly send in sweeps in Burma, and the P-47D2s take a hit today against a rested CAP. The performance seems to be getting worse for them. Is it the small groups due to lack of airframes to fill them out, or are pilots less experienced after so many lost over enemy bases?

The Allies continue to lose a lot of bombers to flak as well, with almost 30 lost over these two days.

The Allies come shocking across the river near Pegu before IJA reinforcements arrive, meaning they can now contest the hex and I won't be able to push them out. This calls for a further reinforcement, and luckily I've got some elements to combine into a new division just arrived, plus two fresh brigades from reserve. Considering he has about 150k troops still moving this way, I've got to act quickly.

Up North the battle for Ketoi-Jima has ended wth the final destruction of Japanese troops. Uruppa is being hammered by continuous landings, air strikes and naval bombardments. This one may not last as long if all Allied forces focus on it for the duration. He still has not attacked on the ground.

More of the same on the 18th and 19th. Sweeps are handled well at Rangoon and the one deliberate attack near Pegu results in over 100 disablements for the Allies to a handful for the defenders. Not sure what he was trying there. He does have a 2-1 advantage in AV here now which is something I have to closely monitor. I don't want it to get past that at this stage in territory where troops haven't built forts yet. The Allied bombers are greatly reduced though, so it should be fine until more troops arrive in a few days.

As losses show again, the Japanese are doing well in the air, and the Allies seem to be opting for a continuous pressure against the defences. If I have CAP up he will sweep it. My current training program is nearly ready to release about 500 new pilots and I should be on track to do that every month, so I think I'll be able to wait this out until he has no airframes left and few good pilots to sweep. His navy and Marine pilots will be almost limitless, but not as much the USAAF fighter or especially bomber pilots. The Commonwealth guys should already be running low all around.

If I can last until the Ki-83 arrives this will get interesting. Right about the turn of the year I'll have a few groups of that monster operational, plus lots of new Ki-84r in use, and the N1K5 and J2M5 should have caught up to losses and filled groups back out as well. The Sam, Randy Ki-102a and Ki-100-II will arrive by March and give me another 210 airframes/month. Of course that is also when the P-47N arrives as well as the B-29B with extended range and double the bomb load.

Everything could change by then, but I'm liking the current trend anyway.

Up North the Allies sweep Kushiro again, after a long layoff there. Uruppa is still taking big hits overturn, and I'm doing nothing to prevent it. The Allied CVs are still hanging around and daily visits by the fast BBs mean it's best to keep a wide berth.

Late sweeps take a toll on defenders at Kushiro on the 18th, but the battle still comes out even. The Allies lose a lot of Corsairs, and a whole group's worth of P-38L.

Near Pegu the Allies try a DA with only a portion of the troops again. Losses are fairly heavy for them and a small tank regiment get knocked around for me, but now the hex is solidified as more troops arrive tomorrow.

Here is the scene in Burma. The IJA now defend 3 hexes along the line from Rangoon through Pegu to the hex next to Pegu.

The Allies have 6k AV in Rangoon, 3.5k AV in Pegu and 3.6k AV in the next next to Pegu.

A small Indian engineer unit is next to Chang Mai, having walked along the long road through the maountains. I've sent my last reserve division after it and then on to solidify Chang Mai afterward.

This is the scene up North. Not much changed. The Allies have 120 fighters at Ketoi, and those will be fun to sweep with the Ki-83 once it's ready. [:)]

The KB is off on a secret mission, but close enough to react should all hell break loose and the Allies go for Korea or something.

The info screen shows the Japanese VP lead diminishing only slightly from a solid 15k to now about 14.8k. I'll detail the trend in air losses over the past month after the next few posts.

Got a nice offensive sweep catching bleeding CAP from the CVEs near Shikuka. The Ki-84b is a good sweeper with it's 11/13 range and CL 20mm if it has the bounce.

I also got a bunch of good Corsairs at Kushiro to pop into my rare high altitude trap. I might have to make more N1K1 as they go to 41k and really put it to the Corsairs in a dive. It's always a bit of a risk as the T-Bolts like it up there, and they come in at 42k, which they did to good effect later in the turn.

B-29s strike Maebashi at night but thanks to the defending Irvings and flak they only managed two hits on the J2M5 factories. Looks like a handful were lost as well. [&o]

The Allies try another strange partial DA near Pegu on the 23rd that doesn't go well for them. About 200 squads disabled and no damage to the IJA. Another ID arrives tomorrow plus components of an ID that will build, bringing AV to near 2k in the hex.
