Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Schanilec

Well my summer is shot! After a terrible Memorial weekend of weather. Cold, wind, tornado (well funnel cloud), straight line winds and 2" of rain. I tripped over my labrador and went down the stairs and broke my collar bone. My fault for not turning on the light at the top of the stairs. No golfing and no fishing. I'll have to see about bike riding. But still no golfing and fishing. My summer is gone. Thank god for WitP-AE.

Darn...

Best wishes Marc!

Well Thank God it was the left shoulder. However I've been through much worse. I fell off a steel building almost 28 years ago. Shattered my left hip and crushed the left elbow. But I proved one thing that day. This is one Czech that doesn't bounce.[:D]

Jeez....What's your middle name Schanilec? Lucky? [;)]

Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Nikademus

simoltanious to Armageddon, I picked up the latest book on The Battle of Britian by James Holland. I used to have no less than 5 books on the battle but this one has been advertised as the "definitive" account with new research so i decided to check it out. It is fairly impressive so far. It's the first BoB book that seriously covers not just pre-war developments leading up to the battle but the actual war from declaration to the defeat of france as well, in a suprising amount of detail....including the ground action! Most BoB books just give an introduction or start right off the gate in July/Aug 1940 or in Townsend's case go into detail only about pre war development of Britian's air defense network and dev of planes and training of pilots. I'm more than several chapters into the book and we havn't even gotten to the "Battle" itself yet. Also some good commentary about the state of Germany as well as Britian and US attitudes before the pivitol event.

unfortunately the $$ was equally impressive ($40!!!!!!) oh well.......sometimes you just gotta..... [:D]

Have you read Len Deighton's:

Blitzkrieg

Fighter

Although Len Deighton is primarily fiction writer he wrote several outstanding history books! [:)]

Some years ago now, but yes I have read these. I did find his books very readable - both the fiction and the non-fiction like SS-GB.

Good Battle of Britain books: The Most Dangerous Enemy - Stephen Bungay & The Hardest Day - Alfred Price. I will be interested to check out this one by James Holland. Nik, does it give some detail about the French Air Force during the Battle of France or just the RAF?

I don't mean to sound judgemental, but that was a rather silly thing to do, don't you think? [;)]

ETA: Hope you get better soon. What's your expected return to activity? 6-8 weeks?

Bummer [:(] - sorry to hear that, that is painful. I broke my collarbone when I was about 10 years old. My sister challenged me to a race in the park and - showing off - I decided to run down the steepest part of the hill [8|]. Next thing I know, my legs can't cope with the speed, and I hear a loud crack as I am rolling a*** over t** to the bottom. Damn that hurt...... I never forget looking in the mirror a little while afterwards, and my ribs on one side of my body were considerably lower than those on the other side [X(]. Get well soon.

Now warspite1-you're amongst friends here, so you can tell us the truth. Weren't you hurt in one of those cheese wheel down the hill races?

That is why it's my fault. Yep 6-8 weeks. Hopefully sooner. 3 months for full recovery. I think I'll be ready for deer hunting in November.

So, how is Beaudy doing today JWE?
Thank you Bruce for asking. Curled up on my foot and looking up at me; "what kinda shit you got dialed in for me today Dad'.

He's got some issues with osterarthritis, doggie dermatitis, stuff like that.

Other than that, me and Beaudy are doing just frikkin ducky.

Really would like to meet you Bruce. Grew up in Tampa and don't live that far away now. Have dog, will travel. You got my email, would love to wander through Florida and say howdy.
