Backing was pulled when the MACHINE realized it was not going to be the normal high action, bigger than life movie. Some say it moves too slowly. It's a study in character and pulls you into that time. Visually it's beautiful moving pictures.
Ive read that the orignal flim was 4 hours and may be released someday.

Anyone watch Westworld? Thoughts? Opinions? Worth watching?

I saw the first episode, pretty dark and it really did not hold my interest [:(]...the original movie was very good! [:)]

Thanks Patrick - I'll give the first episode a go - but in two minds at the moment as to whether to bother.

You might like it...the cinematography is good as well as the acting...if you like Anthony Hopkins it's worth a watch!

Not sure what is accessible in other parts of the world, but this 3-part series is currently showing on 'More 4' part of the UK's Channel 4.

Apparently the story that he was promoted in the field to corporal was a story he invented to make him sound good - as was the story he concocted about how he got his Iron Cross (via a daring mission in which he captured a bunch of French soldiers single-handed - the incident did happen, but Hitler wasn't the guy responsible).

Its really strange. The program said that newly released records showed this to be the case. If true - and it would be staggering if the program makers have lied or got it wrong given the quality of the historians involved - I wonder why and how the idea that he was made Corporal has lasted so long? I have just looked at Bullock's Parallel Lives incase I had missed something, but he too states that Hitler was made Corporal and exhibited incredible personal bravery (a reference to the supposed Iron Cross episode).

Never mind. I blame tiredness.

Regardless. If I understand it correctly. He was a regimental runner and thus he must have been reliable and brave. Otherwise they would have had him doing something else. I.E. a battalion runner.

In the US Army a NCO is Sargent, grades E-5 thru E-9. A Corporal would be an E-4, not a NCO (unless they changed it).

Okay - just watched that part again and it said:

Hitler was promoted early in the war to Private First Class and never got another promotion. His seniors did not see any leadership qualities in Hitler and he remained a Private and was not made an NCO.

Apparently his job was rarely delivering messages to the front line or running from trench to trench. He was considered by his comrades to have a cushy number.

He did finally get his Iron Cross late in the war for delivering a dispatch under fire.

Intriguingly the person who did take the French prisoners - that Hitler took the credit for - was his Jewish officer Hugo Guttman, whose name was later written out of the story.....

It was all Nazi propaganda apparently.

Gefreiter is not a non-commissioned officer. Neither is a corporal. And I have never, ever, heard anyone claim that he was a NCO. So I do not understand why the program is making a point out of it. Are they trying to say that it is tricky to translate grades between countries before attempts were made to standardize them? And even trickier with historical grades?
