All I hear about out of Denver these days is how people are staring at the clouds in general. Circular clouds with pastels from the sunset...you know, it's so beautiful, man! [takes a drag] Where are the chips? Plus, I've got cottonmouth goin' here too...

I hear a lot of stuff like that, but from ground level let me say local government staff flunkies are doing all they can to tax that industry, and at prodigious rates. There are a few bunkers (have to be, to keep out the industrious and bored youth), but they are not as prolific as one might think.

The WSJ had a big piece yesterday about the problems with standarization in the 'products' being sold. Since there's no standardized national THC measurement / standards (it's still illegal nationally), there's been no homogeneity of product and comparatives / doseage and administration is impractical.

Who's going to pay for laboratory testing of product? The more costs you put into the system (taxes, registration, licensing, quality testing, etc.) the more likely to drive the market back underground. It's an interesting conundrum.

Then the taxman will redouble his efforts and interest. It's illegal , damn it! (Unless of course we can reap taxes from it![:D]). I suspect that the future may see corporations being given licenses to distribute , have taxes collected and some form of FDA or similar type organization involved, like was done to certain drugs at the turn of the 20th century. After all, even machine guns are legal if you are willing to do the paperwork and pay the taxes. This way you get control AND taxes! A Bureaucrats dream! [:D]

Then they can use the class-action as some sort of windfall for the general fund. It's all about the children!

Well Duh! Grow it, market it, regulate it, just like tobacco. Make the marketers put nasty health warnings on the packages, scads of TV programs with celebrities looking down their noses at those oh-so-uncultured as to toke. You know, the usual stuff. Have to spend some money redoing the letters on the back of the stormtrooper's jackets to BATF&M.

I think the present situation, with Mexical drug lords and a rampant DEA, as much more reactionary, brutal and socially disruptive than anything that would come from legalization.

I'm older than most of you so I remember some way-back stuff, but if this can actually happen, we could get some stuff like we used to. It's all gone, now, because quantity is everything, but there was some righteous stuff back in the 60s. Much like the single malt craze, I can forsee some entrepeneurs fiddling with the plants and re-introducing some of the epic smokes: Red Panamanian, Acapulco Gold, Oaxaca, Tapachula, Michuacan; and where flowers and tip leaves means sonething, and none of that sticks and seeds doo doo.

I would suggest that them of you who's risky put some money into High Times magazine. Do it quick because the mainstream has always (backyard) supported it, and once thit hits, High Times will be nothing but another political organ. So ride the wave. Be thoughtful, be righteous.

It's my understanding that the cultivators of this plant substance haven't been standing still in the last 40 years. They've improved the yield, genetics and THC concentration significantly over time, such that today's bud is so much more potent than that of the 60s. Do you think ye olde epic smokes that you mention would stand up to the modern breeds and varieties? I've seen some of those that are so 'oily' as to be dripping.

I have a meeting next year in Denver. I'll have to go on a 'fact finding' expedition there. Care to accompany me, Fodder? [8D]

What does your wife have to complain about? It's perfectly legal, no?

ETA: Since you're depressed and all...did you know that there's a certain treatment for depression? [:D] You should be able to get a prescription for it too. Say...you wouldn't happen to be in 'pain' for something, would you?

I just signed the petition last week to put that on the 2014 ballot down here. Proponents of it say it should pass easily. I've got my fingers crossed.
