A grim day for the allies (once more...)

From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Kido Butai

The ships thought to be the Kido Butai was indeed the Kido Butai. Have sent orders for the convoy with the 7th Aus. Div to shatter and hurry here.

From: Base commander, Darwin
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy carriers

An enemy carrier fleet is loceted to our east controlling the straights between here and New Guinea. The supply convoy heading here was hit hard, every ship is expected to be lost by tomorrow. Recon also signals that 5 enemy units are now present in the cities to the west. Enemy strength in the Northern parts of Australia is increasing by the day!

From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: God?!

It seems God might be on our side. Bad weather shielded the ships entering port yesterday, and the 7th Aus Div has been told to get of those ships ASAP before the weather breaks up.

From: CiCPac HQ
To: Base commander, San Fransisco
Subj: Operation Hail Mary

Operation Hail Mary has to be cancelled due to lack of troops and ships. We will instead launch Operation Rudolf.
While CiCPac HQ would prefer to do nothing for now, Winnie and FDR demands action immediately.
Gather all available transports, and tell them to load the following units;
-1st Seebees
-US III Corps HQ
-58th US RCT
-111th Base Force
-VP 9
-VMF-111
-VMF-221
-49 FG
-7th BG
-8th BS
-VMSB-241

Also assemble the following ships to form a surface protection team;
-BB Idaho
-CAs Northampton and Vincennes
-CLAA Atlanta
-CLs Detroit, Nashville and Honolulu
-10 long range DDs
-6 long range MSWs

Tell all ships to rendevouz at 139 46. Target it expected to contain light opposition, location is to be revealed later. Tell all involved that THIS is our only chance to strike back at Japan, and that this operation is part of a long term strategy. Finally the Allied forces are starting to act and not react. God Bless!

The troops have started to arrive off the ships. As ordered officers and NCOs were the first ones to assemble, in case the Kido Butai managed to sink the transports we will still have out officers to rebuild the unit around. The Kido Butai is so sure of themselves that they have in fact entered the harbour and is taking out our transports one by one.

From: Base commander, Darwin
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy plans

Today the enemy plans for the attack on the city became evident. We are as of today effectively cut off. Enemy forces are all around the city, yet we feel confident that we should be able to hold for the time being. A poll among the men however did imply that none would be offended if CiCPac HQ were to allocate more troops and supply for the defence of the city...

From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy attacks

Today the enemy launched a rather deliberate effort to take the base. He was repelled with 4:1 in losses. The presence of Kido Butai means our bomber pilots refuses to fly.

From: Base commander, Darwin
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy attacks

The enemy tried to dislodge us today. Japanese losses were about double of ours.

From: Base commander, Chungking
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: quality of fighters

Today the enemy launched more than 120 frontline fighters against us, our planes are outdated, any chance you might free up some up to date P-40s?

To: Base commander, Chungking

All ships have reached the assembly area. Awaiting further orders. Ships have been placed in two TF's, termed TF-presents (bombardment) and TF-sleight (transports) as ordered.

Although we thank the AVG for their presence in the sky today, the day cannot be termed a success. Please read attached reports about the morning strike here, and please reevaluate the option to send better fighters here.

It is not that we do not WANT to provide better fighters, it is just that none are available.

Heavy Japanese aerial attacks are kept up. The airfield is now in effect closed down. Any chance you might be able to fly in supplies atleast?

Today we woke up to find that the Japanese had withdrawn from the proximity! Today our bombers also decided to fly against a small enemy task force to the east and sank a Japanese MSW.

Subj: Re:Upgrades

Roughly 20 ships have been upgraded. These ships have been sent to San Diego and San Diego for minor repairs to ensure that the Hornet recieves maximum attention here.

No more Allied troops are present at Lahaina. The personell evacuated today were the last ones to get off the island as the rest of our troops surrendered shortly after the subs departed today.

The enemy still conducts daily bombing runs. More than 100 enemy bombers appear every day.

From: Base commander, Noumea

Our bombers have discovered and attacked an enemy task force bringing more troops to the island. We might need even more reinforcements. We will need more fighters before our bombers will even contemplating attacking the Kido Butai, but at the same time we do not have enough ground crews to accept more planes at the base.

More enemy transports are seen heading towards the Hawaiian islands. One of three possibilities.

1. The enemy is withdrawing troops from Lahaina now that our troops are all gone
2. The enemy is sending in supplies
3. The enemy will soon attempt an invasion of Pearl itself.

From: Base commander, Noumea
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Bombers

Today our bombers felt confident enough in their fighter cover to launch against the Kido Butai. Unfortunately the torpedoes that were launched did not manage to score any hits, but it should nevertheless show the Japanese that they need to be more careful with their carriers. Our losses were 5 Beaufaurts IX's and 4 Brewster fighters.

Waypoint reached, please give new orders.

Subj: Re:Update

Reform into two new convoys. TF-Boys will carry all the men while TF-Toys will carry all planes. Head for Christmas Islands, allow TF-Presents to bombard the island before launching the invasion. TF-Toys will not unload before the island is captured.

That is a negative Sir. Please remind Winnie that those ships had to paddle from India to Australia and is now enroute to the US West Coast, but there is no way they will make it there in time.
