It appears I am getting how to expand and research aircraft. The Tojo normally is due in August 1942 but looky at this. Got five research plants rolling==MAY 1942!! Bring them on Baby.
I've heavily invested in researching Frank and George. The factories are getting repaired steadily and I should see those deployment dates advancing fairly soon.
Heck--I've even got engines for these planes. Pretty neat!

You speak the truth Sir. This is why I love the Mod. One HAS to take the DEI ASAP and then pray it is enough to hold things together.
I am skirting the edge of economic trouble. Got resource, fuel, and oil convoys running but a lot of my TK/AO are being used the Hawaii. Plan on one more major lift of fuel and then I MUST focus on the Home Islands. This is a major reason for shifting to the Aussie action. CLOSER to the DEI and fuel!
Should have the opportunity to shut off some things fairly soon. Should be able to do that with a good chunk of armaments and vehicles. This should help some. We'll see about that.

They don't have a ton of strength but cannot have any supply at this point. Might be enough. Once my Inf Div arrives at Daly I'll move the other two Tk Reg there to strengthen the position. REAL possibilities of a big victory down here and I'd love that.

The turn is now April 29th and it APPEARS that the Japanese have managed to trap a portion of the Australian Army NE of Daly Waters. The road block at Daly has not yet been tested and Bill had better do that FAST as I will open up the raod for some supply next turn.
As noted on the heavily NOTED screenshot, I plan to attack the surrounded 3rd Aussie ID and Brig on the 30th. He has THIS turn to try and blast a path out.
If he waits to attack Daly then the situation will worsen considerably. Things LOOK pretty good right now as the bombers are mangling his units making it harder and harder to get off a solid attack. Just last turn the troops at Daly Waters had 325 Casualties inflicted, 13 Guns and 19 Vehicles destroyed or disabled.
Ground combat in this game SUCKS (no offense) so I'm simply hoping for good things and not expected great things!

I cannot believe this but my Tojo (IIa) went into production as of April 28th! Guess Michael's tutelage realy worked here. To advance from August to April is amazing!

Turn off from 200 to 300 Armament and maybe about 30 to 50 Merchant Shipyard to help you get your HI back on track.
There was a bug with the Beta up to Q3, so you need to go to Q4 asap as it effected your R&D points. That may have helped you get the Tojo IIa early.
Hit the "W" button before you do your screenshots so we can see the hexside control.

Have you done any HI expansion?? If not, look at Hong Kong to get it up close to 100, Malaya should be near 100 also between Singapore and Georgetown, and Java can go up a little since you have resources and fuel right there. Finally, look at Japan itself to see if you can increase some of the small HI up. Another 100 HI added should be easy to reach in the next few months. I would look for a minimum of 1500 HI surplus per day. I have close to 3000 HI surplus per day, but I am the teacher, so......[:D]

A Long Month of Time, Part 1

Operational Report
April 23-May 24, 1942
Part One
I dread writing this AAR entry due to the sheer scope of what is needed to cover the last month of the war. Have to be honest and say I've been procrastinating for that very reason. Feel like a college student falling behind, then being daunted that I AM BEHIND, and then doing nothing which only made it worse. Lessons in life there I believe.
OK. Here we go:
North Pacific
Very calm for the entire month. I continue building up Attu, Amchitka, and Adak. He maintains a substantial force at Umnak and then has nothing until Cold Bay/Kodiak. It is an interesting situation which neither of us have yet shown the interest in changing.
I've got a little STF Strike Force of 6 DD that sorties if anything is seen approaching Umnak. Five I-Boats work the waters up here hunting for targets.
A nice Aerial Strike Force sits at Adak: 27 Zero, 27 Kate, and 12 Val. Periodically I've Swept Umnak and bombed it. At first there were only P-36 flying CAP and my Eagles ate them for lunch, however, now there are 24 P-40 present as well and that poses a bit more of a challenge.
Central Pacific
Relatively speaking this area has been somewhat quiet. I am redeploying troops and base forces preparing for the withdrawal of most of my forces from Hawaii. Midway, Johnston, and the Line Islands are pretty well set. Have small convoys going to Marcus and Wake to make sure they are set as well. If it is an atoll then there are between 5-6,000 troops present and prepped.
Hawaii
The biggest news here is that my mines have sunk at least 4 confirmed SS at Kona or Hilo. Until May 22nd I'd gone a month without seeing a bombardment at either site. Forts are now 4 and climbing rapidly and I expanded Kona's Port to Sz-3 to help for the evacuation. Should note that when I landed, I dropped off nearly 150,000 supply and it is only now dropping below 20,000. Planning on a sustained landing and bringing enough supply is a challenge but it sure worked out this time.
My most major issue with the withdrawal was that I would be forced to abandon the South Seas Force and Imperial Guards Brigade at Lahaina. It is too close to Pearl for a TF extraction so I began an airlift of the troops out to the southern bases. Bill has YET to catch on! I've pulled out at least 80% of the two units listed above as well as 2nd Air Flotilla and 93rd Base Force. This is a HUGE bonus and the door should have been closed long ago by my opponent. If one can believe it my 27 Tina and 30+ Mavis have pulled out over 10,000 troops during the month. COOL!
May 22nd saw a surprise. My esteemed opponent bombarded Kona with BB Warspite, 3 CA, 3 CL, and 3 DD. Several mines went off hurting his ships but the bombardment was NASTY! I had 40 planes destroyed on the ground, 647 Casualties, and the Runway was hit 123 times.
CV Deception
When I posted last time I had stated that my plan was to make it look like the Japanese CVs were entirely focused in Hawaiian Waters while separating CarDIv1 and 2 CVL to make their presence known in South Pacific waters. This goal has been fantastically achieved as notes will detail later. Few sinking have occurred as I kept my CVs just at the edge of detection range. Right now I have CarDiv2 and CarDiv5 covering the evacuation operation. Junyo and Ryujo and nearly to Lunga and CV Hiyo just joined the Fleet at Kobe. It is headed to Lunga now as well...

Starting May 18th, TF of AP/AK have formed up and moved out of Christmas Island. Nearly 100 AK/AP have moved out and rendezvoused about 12 hexes from Kona. They are formed into 8 TF with two carrying 40,000 supply and 1 carrying 3 Inf Regiments to provide the final troops for Hawaii. I plan to lift off all components of the 9th Air Fleet (HQ, 3 Air Flotilla, 3 BF) as well as both Combat Commands of the Sendai ID, Imperial Guards Brigade, and South Seas Regiment. Everything else left will holdout until the BITTER END!
Force Allotment:
Direct Cover: BB Yamato/Ise and BCs Kirishima/Hiei, 1 CL, and 9 DD.
Distant Cover: CarDiv2 and CarDiv5, 2 CA, 1 CL, and 8 DD---The CVs will fly LR CAP for augment the 100+ Zero at Kona.
Shifting Focus:
With the decision to pull out the troops, I begin to shift major units from Christmas Island to Lunga for new Operation against New Caledonia. Two full strength ID and a Brigade are pulled and are at this moment about 2-3 days from Lunga.
SS OPs
I have been CRIPPLED Operationally with a lack of fuel for the entire month. IT only began to turn around about mid-May. This is important because I had 14 SS sitting at Midway and Christmas with no fuel and nothing to do. (Well they did get to repair Sys Dam) With the arrival of fuel I send half of those SS on lang range patrol nearthe West Coast. Haven't hunted there in months so we'll see what they find. Most of the rest head for Lunga and Rabaul.
South Pacific
Heavy Action down in this region.
I continue to build-up Luganville. The base here has AF-3 (near 4) and Port-2. An Air Flotilla is present so I've got TTs. The Aerial Force present is 42 Tojo, 27 Zero, 27 Betty, and 36 Sally (plus 16 Emily).

Now that I've seen all the activity going on down here, excitement has built for a major operation. While I was looking at NE Australia (and still might be) for a large landing, I now plan to hit New Caledonia. There are about a dozen units at Noumea and eight at Efate. I WANT THOSE TROOPS! Don't care about the bases...
For six weeks I've built-up the force in Rabaul. Right now there are 3 Inf Div and 1 Brigade plus lots of artillery and Support units present. My damaged Nagato/Mutsu (from Hawaii as well as Fuso/Yamashiro from Singapore) will arrive at Rabaul in about 3 days. They will provide the heavy gunfire support for the Koumac Landing. There are two units holding the base currently and at least one is a Base Force. Initial plan is to land the 38th ID (from China) and 1st Brigade (China) to see if I can take the base. If so then I will land the 2 additional ID and support forces and then drive on Noumea. This could be the reverse of Hawaii where I can achieve a force concentration and use my ships for shore bombardments forcing him to commit ships to protect his forces or LOSE them.
Supporting this landing will be the troops arriving from Christmas Island at Lunga. If they are not needed then they shall land at Efate and destroy that garrision. They shall serve as the Operational Reserve.
Naval Units:
I've already detailed the BBs that will be involved. To that one can add CarDiv1, 2 CVL, Junyo, and Ryujo. Hiyo won't make it in time for the intial operations but then she will be folded into the Junyo TF. An additional STF of 4 CA and escorts operate in this area as well. More SS are deploying by the day too...

As alluded to earlier, I worked to fake out Bill in Hawaii while moving a carrier force to the South Pacific. Arriving May 10th, I swung Akagi/Kaga and Zuiho/Shoho west of New Caledonia, penetrated the area without being spotted and then let all HELL break lose! Results:
5-15 Sink 6 AO and 3 AM and damage 3 more AO as well as DD La Triomphant. Move south towards New Zealand...
5-16 Sink 2 AK, 6 AKL, and an AM--Troops were in some of these ships. Move TF west towards Brisbane...
5-21 NO CAP! Strike Brisbane and sink 4 AP, an AMc, damage 9 more AP, and 2 AK. Would love to have done more but weather shut down afternoon air operations. CRAP! Fuel state bad so I head for Lunga to rendezvous with a pair of AO.
Bill said he didn't think I had anything down here and was surprised (as hoped) by their appearance. He said I just missed a couple of troop convoys (those APs I nailed in Brisbane) but I am happy with the results. There will be plenty more hunting coming in the next couple of weeks.
OK. Got to go and check my canning projects. Am canning Plum Jam, Apricot Jam, and Marinara Sauce. Everything coming out of the garden and/or yard.

Part Two
We now shift focus to Australia (where glory and disaster have occurred), Burma, China, and the Economy.
Australia
DISASTER!
I had left off with a CVE TF (Taiyo and Unyo plus CS Nisshin, CL Natori and 5 DD) moving slowly towards the corner of Australia looking for easy prey. They carried 30 Zero, 12 Val, and 9 Kates plus floatplanes. Little was I to know that they would run into the British Pacific Fleet! Ahhh...these few days were hard to watch.
4-23 CVEs sink 1 SKL
4-24 The TF spots two British CVs as well as another STF nearby. CRAP! OK. The Brit Strike of 16 F, 11 Swordfish, and 15 Albacore comes in facing 24 Zeros. The Zeros shred the Fighters and knock down 4-5 TB but the rest get through. This game is EVIL. The first 16 TB MISS! Then it all falls apart as Mizuho takes 1TT, Taiyo gets 1TT, and Unyo is CRUSHED by 3 TT.
My counter of 6 Zero and 9 Val easily fight past 9 CAP Fighters but cannot penetrate Indomitable's Deck Armor. HATE those CVs!
Luckily Unyo doesn't take much down with her but Taiyo is screwed so I fly off her Kates (no TTs anyway). Immediately move the TF FULL Speed east towards Broome where I gather 27 Zero and 36 Betty. No one is moving quickly and that is BAD!
4-25 My poor TF runs into 4 Brit BBs, 1 CL, and 6 DD. [X(] Taiyo is sunk but the rest escape only to be sunk later by aircraft. Lose CS Mizuho, CL Natori, and a DD. NASTY turn and quite hard to watch. I nearly cried but my cat consoled me out of the crisis...
4-26 The carnage ends as I lose a pair of DDs due to air attack. The only GOOD thing I will say is that I save a new Moon-Class AA DD who is now snuggled alongside CV Akagi!
Well...that finishes off my CVEs. Well done and a tip of the hat to Bill for his patient work. He stated they had been down by Perth waiting for a few weeks. He did quite well in the ambush. Always good (I guess) for this to happen so one doesn't get totally sloppy.
GLORY!
In a total opposite for my skills, the the naval drubbing is countered by the relentless ground action pushing down from Daly Waters to Tennant Creek. As noted in my previous Post in this area I HOPED I had him surrounded NE of Daly Waters. He wasn't. He escaped to daly and then south. Using my Armor (5 Tk Reg) I hook around him several times as my Infantry (2 ID and 5 Art units) drove down the road. My bombers (nearly 200+) have relentlessly pounded his units.
Several times I caught up only to have him slip out of the hex just ahead of the attack. This pattern ends on the May 21st. I finally get 17 units in one hex where I can and DPO land a solid punch! I attack on the 20th and drain his supply while keeping my armor back. On the 21st my Tk Reg join in a Shock Attack that nets a 3-1! Nearly 20 units are forced to retreat and they lose 467 Squads, 607 Non-Com Squads, 12 Eng Squads, 53 Guns, and 252 Vehicles. BANZAI!
Included within this total are the 1st--4th Aussie Inf Div. I am attaching a screenshot. What serious Infantry does he have left in Aussieland? Who knows Order-of-Battle here? If I can hit him again before or at Tennant Creek then things just might get pretty interesting in Australia...
Burma
Am driving on Paoshan, China right now. Everything else is quiet. He has staged night raids against Mandalay and Akyab but nothing more then that. Spotted some shipping so I'm moving two small STF to Port Blair for Raiding. Several Betty/Nell units are now ready to attack if able.
I've only got 3 ID and 3 Tk Reg present here. Still cannot believe he didn't put up a major fight here. If he evens simply tried I could NEVER have taken Burma. Am about to buy out the 12th ID from Manchuria to augment my forces here.
China
Interesting developments. I moved NW out of Sian only to find the Chinese moving with me. I've used the opportunity to squash some of his units and have given up grabbing the oil up there. Am currently moving back towards Sian to dig in, rebuild units, and plan for future operations.
In the south I grab Liuchow with a 5-1 attack on April 30th (another 400 Chinese Squads destroyed) that forces back 7 units defending the town.
I've done everything I wanted in China and so now I will work on settling things down, and create a solid (hopefully) defensive line. Might even offer a Truce to the Chinese for 6 months...
SS Action
LOTS of damaged subs on the Japanese side. The Brits are EVIL and the Americans are getting better. I haven't lost many but I've got a bunch of cripples getting repaired (probably 12-16).

Part Two
We now shift focus to Australia (where glory and disaster have occurred), Burma, China, and the Economy.
Australia
DISASTER!
I had left off with a CVE TF (Taiyo and Unyo plus CS Nisshin, CL Natori and 5 DD) moving slowly towards the corner of Australia looking for easy prey. They carried 30 Zero, 12 Val, and 9 Kates plus floatplanes. Little was I to know that they would run into the British Pacific Fleet! Ahhh...these few days were hard to watch.
4-23 CVEs sink 1 SKL
4-24 The TF spots two British CVs as well as another STF nearby. CRAP! OK. The Brit Strike of 16 F, 11 Swordfish, and 15 Albacore comes in facing 24 Zeros. The Zeros shred the Fighters and knock down 4-5 TB but the rest get through. This game is EVIL. The first 16 TB MISS! Then it all falls apart as Mizuho takes 1TT, Taiyo gets 1TT, and Unyo is CRUSHED by 3 TT.
My counter of 6 Zero and 9 Val easily fight past 9 CAP Fighters but cannot penetrate Indomitable's Deck Armor. HATE those CVs!
Luckily Unyo doesn't take much down with her but Taiyo is screwed so I fly off her Kates (no TTs anyway). Immediately move the TF FULL Speed east towards Broome where I gather 27 Zero and 36 Betty. No one is moving quickly and that is BAD!
4-25 My poor TF runs into 4 Brit BBs, 1 CL, and 6 DD. [X(] Taiyo is sunk but the rest escape only to be sunk later by aircraft. Lose CS Mizuho, CL Natori, and a DD. NASTY turn and quite hard to watch. I nearly cried but my cat consoled me out of the crisis...
4-26 The carnage ends as I lose a pair of DDs due to air attack. The only GOOD thing I will say is that I save a new Moon-Class AA DD who is now snuggled alongside CV Akagi!
Well...that finishes off my CVEs. Well done and a tip of the hat to Bill for his patient work. He stated they had been down by Perth waiting for a few weeks. He did quite well in the ambush. Always good (I guess) for this to happen so one doesn't get totally sloppy.
GLORY!

Sounds like it was a good month. It will be hard to report to the Emperor that the war effort is on hold due to fruit canning operations, though. [:D]

Sorry about not Posting this yesterday but had a high level Command Conference with Economics Minister Benoit, got bunches of canning done, and then worked for the evening. More canning today as we finish the fruit and shift to Marinara. Have got to keep the Empire provisioned!
I forgot to mention the Philippines in my Regional Report and I should do so:
Philippines
The Allied troops at Malaybalay continue to hold out against my attacks. There are now three Inf Brigades or Regiments present in the hex and they attack about once a week. I've got 18 Kate and 42 Oscars attacking the place but it shows no sign of weakening. Very frustrating.
I've taken the Central Philippines except for Cebu. Suffered a nasty rebuke there when I landed the 9th Inf Reg. The TF consisted of 3 DD, 2 PG, and 3 AP. The guns of the Phil Inf Div there CHEWED up all three AP! NASTY! I saved about 900 troops and they are now headed to Darwin to join their parent division and rebuild. Will take Cebu once Malaybalay falls. No real hurry and I don't need the troops anywhere at the moment so I guess this is OK. Annoying but OK.
Ship Losses for the Month of Time:
Japan: CVEs Unyo/Taiyo, CS Nisshin, CL Natori, 3 DD, 3 AP, 9 AK, 4 AKL, and 5 CM--28 Ships
Allies: 1 DD, 3 SS, 6 AO, 2 TK, 5 AP, 5 AK, 9 AKL, 1 ACM, 4 AM, 1 PG, and 1 AMc--38 Ships
I cannot sustain this sort of loss ratio at this point in the war. The Warship losses were all due running into those Brits. While knowing there was a risk I should have thought that one through more. The 5 CMs were sunk off Kona when caught by a Bombardment Force. If you corrected these mistakes then things went well. Have simply got to be more careful and thoughtful.
Since are near the end of May I can now assume that there are at least 3 American CV out there. Once Western Wind is done I will concentrate all CVs and begin the rotation for upgrades in the Home Islands.

Since we are close to June 1st I plan to Post a comprehensive economic report at that time. Suffice it to say that HI is climbing rapidly thanks to the Good Minister's advice. Just ran a Tracker Turn for May 27th and saw I was running 389 Naval Points in the hole. Must have a batch of SS just start construction. Time to turn them OFF!
