A few more days pass unfortunately ive been unable to run the combat return.

The gist of the turns have been to assault on Soerbijou.

THere is nothing I can do.

My men will fight to the bitter end.

I have enough airpower that it is basically going to be a slugging match as I think Sveint will steer clear with air and sea (he doesnt actually need em as he is reducing forts minus air and bombardments) A BB or CA TF might speed it up by a few days but my air would hurt him so I dont think he will bother as the end is now in sight.

I have been trying to re supply but i am getting lots of ships damaged even small single ship TF's cannot get through.

When Java fallls I will lose the entire MAG/ most of the Dutch Army and 3 Precious ANZAC Bdes.

The overwhelming force applied by Sveint has done its job magnificantly.

Now in terms of scale some will ask is this a disaster.

Unfortunately my pitifull performance on Java is a disaster for the allied cause.

Although most of the units I am losing are units lost in other places in other games the big difference is the vast number of replacements 4 months have given me to flesh out the ranks of these formations.

I am really NOT looking forward to the VP count when my Java Army Gp surrenders.

General Staff meeting in Tokyo...

by sveint
Situation:

China is pacified, the rebels are confined to the interior.
Rangoon is a major Allied airbase - we are moving to capture it as soon as possible.
Java - resistance should end in a week or two.
Imperial Navy - Three BBs sunks, many many damaged ships, carriers mostly intact with elite aircrews.

I would like to call a meeting of the General Staff in Tokyo. The agenda... what should Japan do next?

I'm taking suggestions. Bear in mind that the enemy probably has spies and will listen in on the proposals.

I have been using Rangoon to pound Saigon I figure as soon as Java is pacified he will wipe out Rangoon and Burma and there isnt much I can do about it.

He is neutralising China with Air raids on my resource centres.

It is very annoying he doesnt need to attack by crippling my Chinese economy he stops me from ever attacking.

I have an agenda suggestion for the IJN .... surrender now you are only saving yourself pain in the long run !!!!.

Overall not bad for me he has two seperate Corps attacking me in Burma with Moulmien as the meat in the sandwich....

Java not going to hold on much longer at the rate the forts are dropping...but he has been attacking for 6 weeks solid now so those Divisions must be getting tired by now.

Looks like my AK's around Timor are going to take a pounding in the text turn or so a major IJN TF is heading that way to cut off my evacuation point.

OK time for a washup on Java.

I am going to lose 150,000 men when he finally finishes Soerbijou off and much as it pains me to admit it I am unsure if i should have taken the risk to hold Java.

Anyone got an opinion ?

It will be the middle of June when fighting finally ends on Java and at the cost of the 150,000 men on Java plus approximately 50,000 killed wounded POW or MIA I have delayed the Japanese for approximately 10 weeks but in the process crippled all ABDA forces, sucked my British and Dutch pilot pools dry, and lost three precious ANZAC Brigades.

I have lost over 300 aircraft of all types and it will take years to recuperate the formations I have rescued.

OK thats the bad side on the other hand what have I achieved.

If intel is to be believed the IJN Battleline have worn out the bores on their guns from shore bombardment and are in port for refit.

I have degraded 10 Divisoins plus support of IJA troops (a ten week campaign culminating in attacks on a level 9 fort) through some of the most malaria infested god awfull jungle on earth)

And shot down a similar number of IJA aircraft to what I have lost including a large number of zeros

I have bought 10 precious weeks while not as much as I would have liked still not bad.

The virtual destruction of Palembang's oil industry (although I suspect its resurrecting itself like a Pheonix).

Overall I just dont know if it was a compete disaster or a perhaps a score draw !!!!

Whatever happens the author of the fortress Java concept will stay to go down with the fortress there will be no escape for high command at the finish of this campaign......

5th June 1942.

Quiet turn I try a deliberate attack at Malang and am repulsed with light losses.

Soerbijou is quiet obviously the IJA is running low on supplies after there 10 week trek down Java and are needing to rest for a few days before the fianl push.

Allied planners expect all resistance to cease on Java on or about 15th June.

An IJN CV TF was sighted yesterday at Bali cutting off supply convoys to Java.

They have dissappeared this turn but search efforts have been intensified over Java.

Bombers at Rangoon refuse to fly again the loss of fighter cover fro Tavoy has stopped my Bombing offensive dead.

Wow.. if you wiped out Palembang's oil it will take almost two years to rebuild.. resources and oil only repair one point per day.. and take 1000 supply per point.

From memory I launched some fairly heavy LBA raids against Palembang.

I am fairly sure I had gutted it I will check when I get my next turn as I may be wrong.

Perhaps fortress java wasnt such a terrible mistake if thats how long it takes to rebuild.......

Sveint old bean did I manage to gut your oil industry ?

(I am fairly sure I lost Repulse trying to bombard palembang in the early days to finish off the oil industry.....)

Do naval bombardments actually touch respource/oil/manpower/HI centers? Don't they just hit ports, airfields and troops?

While Palembang is heavily reduced, most other oil and resource locations are intact.

My fuel situation is very good, my supply situation is stable.

A quiet turn as the Japanese gather themselves for the final push on Soerbijou.

I tried a preemptive deliberate attack at Moulmien to try and defeat the Japanese Army in detail but I only got 1 to 1 odds so I lost.

I guess Rangoons days are numbered.

20,000 Japanese are moving to the hex above Moulmien cutting off my retreat so I mat have to abandon Moulmien soon.

As soon as Java finally falls he will have 10 Divisons ready for offensive ops.

However the carefull way he is approaching the fight at Soerbijou appears to be trying to conserve forces for immediate future combat ops so I am looking to Northern Australian and Indian defences just in case.

My LBA is growing nicely in both areas so If nothing esle my stand on Java has secured time to get India and Australia in order.

Andy

Right back at the start of this game I decided to abandon Singapore and my worry was that by doing so I would let Sveint free to do as he liked.

My worst nightmare was that he just bypassed java and went mad elsewhere he has not done so but I have not been able to hold on Java.

Overall a victory for the Japanese a massive one with 100,000 allied troops about to surrender but we are now in June and this has been the only real Japanese offensive so although Ive lost I dont think its a total loss

My problem is what do I do now ?

I am going to have to play cautious but there are three or four places that I could attack Sveint and hurt him but I just dont think that June is late enough that I should be risking a confrontation which means anything I do must be within LBA.

The obvious option is to fight it out at Port Moresbey and Timor both within LBA.

As the Java Army Gp will be refitting in Northern Australia I figure that place is fairly secure as I will Have c 100k troops in Norther Oz plus Australia Command forces.

I think India is now secure even with the forces still committed to Burma but Burma itself will be lost when Sveint transfers a few Divisons from Java to end that campaign

So Oz relatively safe. India safe.

PM/ Timor and Burma probably battles I will lose.

The one disadvantage in closing the door on India and Aus is it stops the japanese from over extending going for them.

If he doenst try either of those targets where can the allies hit the japanese with minimum risk in late 1942 ?

Any suggestions....

Andy
