Few lines to say something about the future.

The last Campaign for Canton Isl. has prooven that i simply do not have the means ( supply and fuel above all ) to keep on pushing thorugh central pac. I will go for Baker Island, Nanoumea atoll and probably pago pago( if i still have fuel ), but that's all. Then it will be time to redeploy my forces. I do not want to be caught with my pants down somewhere else now that he knows i have all my divisions engaged in frontline battles ( 4 at Manila, 2 at exmouth, 2 at Daily, 4 in Central Pac and 1 in Burma).

Already planning the future evacuation for my units in Oz. I will stay there untill i feel i can hold against a frontal assault at Daily waters. 100 APs/Aks are already at Darwin ready to start the program at my order.
Timor must become a fortress. already building it up as long as Ambonia and Tarakan

The adventure at Exmouth should clean my left flank for few more months.
The conquest of Canton,Baker and Nanoumea will slow down his operations, both in central pacific and Australia. He now needs to ferry his supply TFs far away from the direct line he used to.

At the moment i'm quite happy.
Now my weakest flank in the pacific is Tulagi. I did not build up Lunga...so if he comes he should come from there.
Buin and Shortland are building up their AF quite fast and i hope i will be able to place some nasty betties there in 4 weeks.

As for the redeloyments of my divisions, i'd like to mantain a certain degree of flexibility for possibile future counterattacks.

After Exmouth and RAG-2 the 55th division will go back to Rangoon.
The 5th will move to Java with one Mix Rgt.
The Imperial will go to Malaya.
I'll keep the 56th Bde at Kwalejein, the S.S.D. at Rabaul and the 18th Div at Truk with the 2nd.
The 16th probably will go to Palau for the moment.

The KB will be divided again. 1 CV and the baby KB will go towards Java with 2 BBs .
The rest of the KB will stay at Truk ready to answer to any allied attack to my perimeter.


The VPs situation is not bad, considering i sunk very few allied valuable ships. 14,000 to 4000. More than 3 to 1.
With baker and Nanoumea and china i hope to get to 4-1 by mid-42

i guess the bombardment at canton didn't work since it is a small target. Remember historical bombardment of tarawa. sure looked good but didn't really help. Maybe the terrain type of the hex bombarded is important.

Great game so far!I think that you must try to provoke a decisive carrier battle.If the battle occurs now you still got "zero advantage".If you won that battle the war is practically over.You have the upper hand right now,EXPLOIT IT.He is shaken,now is time for knock out blow.The ONLY strike force his got right now is carrier strike force.Without them he is doomed.Sweep the area,set some baits,Some false attacks,and wait.Good luck.

Thanks Hawker, that's why i decided to go for Canton. I thought it was too important for him not to engage his carriers...i was wrong[:(]
It seems that his carriers are well hidden somewhere ( i believe PH) and that he doesn't want to engage them.
I will however go on with my offensive and now i have a bran new variation[;)]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/24/42

As predicted his B-17s at Alice Spring stayed down in order to repair the damages of yesterday attack.
I managed to put at Daily 100 more fighters...i just need few more turns to let an Air HQ to come from Darwin...the weather must be with me in this crucial moment!
At Exmouth we're ready to attack.Tomorrow will be the day. Hope everything goes well.

In Burma he striked again with his Heviests: my resources are being destroyed under my nose and i cannot do anything....pretty depressing.
Now Kumming is level 5 AF...he can bomb whereever he wants now...but he's going to burn a lot of supplies if he takes those bombers in China...let's see, but i'm getting scared.

In Cent-Pac the situation is the following:

Many many ships are going up and down from PH to Palmyra. He clearly wants to defend that island with everything he has. I do not think he will go defening Baker or Nanoumea. He moved back all his planes but Catalinas....so...

...so there are a number of undefended isle down there. The Samoa, Wallis and all those atolls south of Nanoumea...all empty[:D][:D][:D] I have 5 SNLF units at Canton, ready to be used. They will move and occupy all those atolls, with a light cover of 2 CVs. It's taking me too much time to get this Raid and Go operation ( the HUGE scale of these ops are really difficult to manage). I need to gain time and vital space down there. And i will!
While 2 divisions are going for Baker(4 enemy units) and the other two are getting ready for Nanoumea(3 enemy units), my little invasion forces will go and get some easy targets[8D]
By the end of March i should be able to get all those isles and so points he will need to get back fighting....this is an opportunity i cannot miss.
I won't go for Palmyra. Too risky, too close to PH. My subs however are redeploying in order to create an recon filter between Palmyra and PH...i need to know if he moves his carriers!
Now at Canton there are Emilies...with their 24 Range they can spot everything that moves in the sector!

In China he stopped advancing. He probably knows he can't go further with his difficult supply condition.
In 2/3 weeks i should be able to start attacking his left flank at Lanchow...this can change the war!

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/25/42

MASSIVE NIGHT AIR BOMBING OVER MANDALAY!
This was a surprise. I thought this feature was so tuned down that was almost useless....well...7 jap planes destroyed on the ground,1 Allied place destroyed by flak and only some 3 lost due to op losses....[:(]
Was a little success for him. Another one.
Now he really controls the skies over India and Burma. Exactly like like our last match, he pounds me since March with hundreds of planes every day.
Akyab,Mitykina,Lashio,Tyung Gy ( sp)....are all undefended and "de facto" closed as operational bases.

In Australia Exmouth became ours at the firt attempt. A good news .23,000 british and ducth men captured, and my 2 divisions in a pretty good shape, comparing them with the 18th and the Imperial that took Canton.
Now the 5th div, one mix Bde, 4 arty units, one eng rgt and the 25th Army HQ are already loading on ships. Direction: the Siege of Manila.
At Exmouth i will leave a SNLF unit. No base forces, cause he can close that AF whenever he wants with his 4Es

At Daily Waters he let me breathe this day...but that AF is almost doomed. He started to recon with b-17s....wants to be sure to hit the single house where the command of the 14th Army is placed-_-

RAG-2 and the new mini-RAG operations are going fine. Tonight 20 MSWs will clean a path through minefields at BAker Island. The Baker invasion force is stationing at two hexes, covered by CVs and 2 BBs groups.
The Carrier division 1 is goind southwards, supporting the naval guard units already moving from Canton to Samoa Isls.
More ships movements at Palmyra.
The Imperial and the 18th are really having hard time to rest and regain their combat strenght. Just think that both of them have only 290/300 Assault points at the moment[:o]

His subs are creating some problems. He keeps mining Kwalajein and now Canton. I've lost so far 4 ships at Kwalajein due to mk10 american mines...i clean the port ever day but it seems that he has hundreds of subs and my ASW group is unable to sink them[:@]

In China i keep on bombing every other day Chunking,Lanchow and Sining with massive formations. These 3 AFs MUST stay closed!
At the same time my bombers keep damaged Wouchow,Ichang and Changsha, so that the yellows have to spend daily some supplies to repair their bases.

Your doing a nice job of scoring victory points without taking casualties. I would keep that up as long as possible. Exmouth was a good operation that way, the value is not the location, its the large number of rear area troops in the bag.

The night bombing does not look that bad to me. You will have to respond some how but its not as if he shut the airfield down in a day. It seems to me that you are running into the reality that as the Allies grow stronger Japan can nolonger win everywhere and you don't care much about Burma so that is where he starts to win first.

I am very impressed with your ability to score victory points, 14000 to 4000 is very good, and you have not even taken the Phillipines. Maybe you will get the auto victory.

Great AAR! I don't read that many but this is one of the absolutely best since you give us our thoughts and plans. Comparing your views of the same situation makes it even more interesting.

Ok, let's talk a bit about war.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/26/42

He finally found the trick to avoid my zeros: night bombing[:@]
Another attack at Mandalay. Results were worse than yesterday.11 planes destroyed on the ground. I moved back the 4 recon chutais i had there: no reason to keep reconning his bases for the moment. He gained back the control of his skies and if i leave them there i only give him easy targets for his night raids.[:(]

In China everything is quite. I ordered to one tank regiment to make a bigger flank movement in the north, trying to cut the link between Sining and Lanchow....alternatively i'll force him to move his 2 divisions that are covering his left flank.
Today we bombed Sining and Lanchow again. Tomorrow Chunking will be bombed by 200 bombers...just to make him feel unconfortable[;)]

In Northern Oz, i'm moving my assault divisions back to Philippines and Java. 1 mix regiment will be moved to Darwin from where will move again towards Daily, where it will be divided in 2 fragments for securing the flanks of my positions at Daily waters.
He's still recovering his B-17s at Alice springs. No attacks today. Good...my fighters are being repaired at a good rate! I hope he gives me 3/4 more days in order to get the Air HQ units at Daily....

In Cent.Pac we found no mines at Baker: that's a good news. My float planes are reconning the base. Tomorrow we'll recon again, then in 2 days we'll start bombarding and my divisions will be unloaded for the final assault.
The carrier division that is escorting my SNLF units towards Samoas spotted a 3 ships convoy moving towards Pago Pago. Probably are empty, but i'll go and intercept them just in case he'd like to reinforce Pago with some Costal guns ( i just hate them and he knows!).
At Palmyra many many ships are going and comming. He's clearly reinforcing this base. My subs have been constantly attacked by Conrados and Catalinas...one sub is nearly sunk after have been hit by 2 bombs[:(]
No signs of enemy CVs...he's playing really a Fabian tactic[:o][:-]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/27/42

Very very strange what happened today. Yesterday my Msws did not find any mines at Baker. Today: plenty of mines and plenty of 155mm field guns. 7 MSWs sunk and 6 more ready to go beneath the waves.[:@]
Tomorrow night our BBs will do the dirty job, followed by the landings of 2 Divisions, the South Sea D., 2 Heavy mortar units and the 16th Army HQ.
At Pago Pago the 1 Carrier division intercepted 2 different convoys, both empty but both juicy. 10 AK/APs sunk.
The problem is the recon results at Pago Pago. My Alfs spotted more than 12,000 men there[X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(] My SNLF unit directed there has been ordered to stop and wait for some more recon. What does he have there?
Palmyra seems to be a supermarket parking: hundreds of ships commin and goin'. one more sub sunk by Catalinas[:@]

He has officially started the night bombing campaign. Another time Mandalay has been hit and my planes destroyed on the ground. The news is that now at Daily 51 b-17s from Alice came and destroyed zeros and oscars.....[:(]
I hate this...very easy victory points without risking anything[:@]

More base forces comming from Tokyo to Timor and Buganville: the two fortresses in my souther perimeter

At Manila i'm bombarding with Artillery and with 90 sallies from S.Marcelino. I'll wait till the rest of the 25th army comes back from Exmouth, then i will attack.

Akyab is officially closed as active base. He keeps sending his medium bombers at deylight escorted by P-40s....no way to stop him.

Hi mate,

i've been thinking about this option for weeks. Akyab is closed and it's only level 3 however. Mandalay is at level 4, but the risk is too high. I do not have enough zeros and oscars to defend a Mandalay full of bombers. If he'd come with his 140 heaviests and 200 medium, even if i manage to put 100 zeros in defence of Mandalay ( and that would mean a Rangoon undefended), he can master to have at least 150 p-40s-buffalos and many hurricanes in defence of Diamond and Chandupur.
I really want to keep my zero forces in Burma as effective as possible as deterrent ( sp??).
Between CAP and Flak i could lose more bombers than what i could destroy on the ground.
And, above all, i need those 300 bombers in China, to keep his AFs suppressed and to burn his supplies for the next big offensive operations. Cannot risk to see one day liberators and b-17s at Chunking hammering Shangai falicilties or Hanoi's industries.

RAG-2 ( Baker Island ):

The second stage of RAG-2 operation ended today with a clear victory. Baker falls easily, after 2 very good naval bombardments and 4 incredibly smooth landings. 1 American Regiment, 1 AA unit, 1 Base force and one CD marine unit have been taken as prisoners and immediately shot down, following a direct order from Tokyo, due to the lack of ships for transporting them to the Pows camps at Truk.
9500 americans less to fight against[:D]
The good news is that my assault units are in a very good shape.
12 Msws lost for Baker is an high price but i can live with.

Near Pago Pago my Carrier division sank few more empty AKs....but my heavy recon confirms: 1 unit for 15,000 men at Pago[:-]
That's a lot of infantry. Could be a regiment or a division.......juicy[;)]
The units that took baker are already loading on APs. They'll go directly for Pago Pago! BANZAI!
5 ships ( one CA ) spotted anchored at Pago. Port attack for tomorrow[8D]

One more week and the units at Canton will be loaded for Nanoumea.

At Palmyra my subs spotted 2 big warships convoys. Could be CVs....allerted my Carriers that are now regrouping between Canton and Baker.

His night bombing goes on both at Daily and at Mandalay: frustrating.
He managed to put 60 blenheims to resource bombing....20 oscars took off and shot down 8 bombers[:D]

In China his fist chinese unit entered at Chentu. my 3 Yokasuka SNLF units are defending in good shape. One more para regiment will be dropped tomorrow and 70 sallies will ground attack these enemy units. Wanna hold this base now[:'(]

Tomorrow my tank units will interrupt the road connection between Lanchow and deep Russia. Only the trail to Sining will connect the sieged Lanchow to the rest of the world...the plan is going well here.

Hoepner is complaining because he can't be strong enough to smash the Allies everywhere. Poor Hoepner, he is winning but not strong enough to stop the Allied air offensive in an un-important theater [;)]

Seriously its not possible for the Japanese to win everywhere, he picked Burma as his weak area. He could change his current strategy and be strong in Burma but as he said then he would become weak in China.

I think the over all plan is working rather well, he is bagging a lot of VPs by fighting in the Central Pacific and he is removing some American infantry divisions that would otherwise lead the counter attack in early 43. Getting pounded by the British in Burma is a small price to pay.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/31/42

I've lost 2 Combat reports....however not a big deal:nothing serious happened.

He keeps night bombing Mandalay and Daily waters. the rate is almost 15 planes destroyed on the ground each night...way too much to handle[:@]. I've already run dry with my oscar pool and many sentais are now lacking of planes...it's uncredible that there's no way to stop this draining[:o]

In the Cent-Pac i've almost finished the loading of the Baker Invasion force. 2 Divisions are now en route for Pago Pago. In support i'll use the 35th Bde and the S.S.D. just to be sure[;)]
My CVs are going to Canton to refuel and get some ordinances. The BBs are ready to smash Pago, parked now at Canton.
Almost run dry with fuel. Gotta be carefull.
The loading operations for Nanoumea will start tomorrow at Canton.

In the Indian ocean i've spotted 2 TFs moving from Oz to India. 2 CVEs are moving to intercept.

In Northern Oz, I'm redeploying a Mix regiment for Daily waters.

In China the usual air bombing at Chungking, Sining and Lanchow.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/01/42

April has come. The zero bonus slowly faded away. Now i have to pay attention. The problems can come from Burma and Central Pacific now.

From Baker the 16th and the 2nd divisions are moving, along with the S.S.D and the 35th Bde ( this one from Baker ), 2 arty units and an eng rgt. towards Pago Pago, where his 15,000 men are now sieged. No way he can get them out of there ...well...probably with his CVs[:D]
From Canton the Imperial Guard and the 18th division, with 2 arty units and an Eng Rgts are being loaded on APs and getting ready to move towards Nanoumea Atoll.
The BBs are leaving Canton Island, while the CVs are getting there....a lot of traffic[:D]
So far in this RAG-2 operation i've lost 13MSWs, 10 PCs and 2 PGs...with 2 AK and 2 DDs damaged. Not so bad indeed. The biggest problem is Sub-mines. He keeps sending subs full of mines and i'm unable to stop this routine, due to the lack of ASW ships...

Still in contact with the TFs in Indian Ocean. My Nells are ready at Batavia, while at Christamas OI. 2 Emilies units are searching the seas. My CVEs are on an intercepting route. Hope to get some easy points[8D]

In China finally my troops got into the right flanking position at Lanchow. Dunno why he did not move anything[&:]
The Tank unit will move towards Sining, while 5 Ind.Bde Fragments will march directly towards his left flank, guarded by 2 corps.
As soon as he moves back my 4400 assault points will attack Lanchow!
This should open the doors for Chungking....[:D]

If you look back in the first 2 pages of this Thread you'll see that this strategy was decided months ago, on the basis of my previous experience with MC. I do not complain about Burma, but as always about night bombing[:D]. BTW i'm happy about this war so far. I've taken Northern Oz, Singapore and DEI without any real problem and i haven't lost any valuable ships so far. 9000 Victory points for enemy ground losses isn't my record, but it's a good way to begin a war. What is really important is that these units destroyed are american units...those that will come after me in the solomons and in Cent-Pac sooner or later.
I hoped to find a Marine division at Canton Island...it would have been my "wet dream"[:'(], but the 24th US division isn't bad anyway.
Now i hope to destroy the units at Pago Pago and Nanoumea in the next 3 weeks. Then i'll go back and try to play a active defence, especially in Central-Pac and Solomons. 2 Divisions and 2 Bdes will be placed at Kwalajein and Truk along with my CVs and will operate as a tactical reserve. Whereever he will attack i will counterattack en masse.

I'm concerned abou burma because i know that if i leave the aereial space over there completely to his dominion, it will be very liklely to see a landing in Burma by British forces in late 42.

In China...well...it all depends on how will go the Lanchow gamble. If i manage to take that damned city, then i will threat directly Chunking...having my right flank secured.....his whole central front would be under pressure and i will be able to get over some important resources centers.

Northern Oz is just a delaying theatre. I will stay there as long as i think i have the means to resist.
For the moment it seems that he doesn't feel strong enough to attack me

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/02/42

The RAG operation, that was born to be a naval blitz krieg, is now becomming a slow war of movements. Japan cannot master to keep at sea for 2 months his whole combined fleet with 300 Aux vessels. I've calculated that this operation costed me 430,000 fuel points...way too much[:(]
Now i've finished my tankers reserves. The closest fuel deposit is at Kwalajein ( 90,000 ) and Truk ( 200,000 ). Too far away.
Will try to move my big ships as less as possible. Want to finish with Pago and Noumea, hoping he's not comming with his CVs now....i could'nt efford to engage a battle in these conditions.

His minewarfare is giving him some results. 3 ships sunk today ( 1 Msw and 2 PCs) at Canton Island.

He's trying to move his unit out of pago pago. An AP tried to enter in the waters of Pago, but has been bombed by 20 Vals taken off from Zuikaku[8D]

Still following the big TF in Indian Ocean. My subs are following it. My CVEs are 2 days away from intercepting....

your opponent did the classical allied mistake of trying to defend everything at once. doesn't make sense. esspecially in early 1942, you only invite the japanese to collect some VPs. He should have concentrated his forces, concentrating on a counterattack!
if you try to defend everything, you will loose everything.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/03/42

Today his night bombing were less efficient than other times. only 5 planes destroyed on the ground. What really bothers me is that the night bombing raids aren't stopped by bad weather....[:@][:@]

Anyway, altough he keeps pounding Daily waters at Night, my defences seem to be quite well built. 9 Forts with the 14th Army ( 2 divisions,3 tank regiments, 1 eng regiment, 2 arty units, many more engeneers, 1 Air HQ ) full supplied and rested ( i love the non-malaria bases[:D]) , with one mix regiment on its way for Daily. Between Darwin and Daily i have stockpiled more than 100,000 supplies and 30,000 more are commin from Japan and Pelmbang. He'd need to bomb Daily Waters with his heaviests if he wants to take it and i still have 100 experienced fighters there!

In China, it seems that he doesn't give a **** about Lanchow. He didn't move his flank guard, altough my tanks are already marching towards Sining, cutting his supply routes[&:][&:][&:][&:]. 5/6 days and my rescue Kampfruppe will directly attack his left flank.

At Chengtu, i managed to place 3 Yokasuka SNLF units and 2 Para Regiments. They have not any Artillery, so it's going to be a problem to hold against 6 Chinese full corps... the terrain should be on my side and my units are fully supplied and very well experienced. Plus i'm keeping open a air-bridge from Sian and from Mandalay. 1 more SNLF units will be transported in tomorrow from Sian. My sallies will give some air support, bombing the advancing chinese troops. Let's see, i'm really curious if i can hold the ground...would be just great!

In the Indiand Ocean, My CVEs should intercept his TF in 2/3 days. His really running fast, but my subs manage to keep in touch with the british APs....

In Central Pac, the fuel situation is getting critical. I've hurried up the operations. In 2 days there shoudl start the naval bombardment of Pago Pago, while my divisions should be unloading in 4/5 days. For nanoumea it will take me more time. probably a week and a Half before getting there in force.

2 experienced Nates Sentais ( 36 planes with exp level on the 80s ) are moving towards Truk. Here will wait untill Semptember when Tojos and Tonies will be available.
i have more 150 army fighters training in China and PI.

In The PI we're waiting for the 5th division and for the 25th Army HQ. 2 weeks and we'll start the attack at Manila. He's clearly running out of supplies there. Less flak and more casualities each day both for Land and Air bombing.[:)]
