Loss of SC Ch 30 on Jan 23, 1944 is admitted

The Allies launch the 2nd deliberate attack at Chittagong with more troops in the hex than Round 1.
The recon reports had been indicating a lot more tank units arriving which have now been identified.
The level 6 forts hold!

The 1st Tank Div, 1st Infantry Div and 11th Tank Regt were in Reserve (no pursuit) mode.

I sped up the combat animation or the Olympics would be over before the replay finished.
The yellow border shot was taken by pausing the replay from what looked like the end of the bombardment phase.
It shows some good damage to many Allied units, with 33rd Infantry Div all but zeroed.
209th CE Bn and XV Corps Engr Bn were zeroed.

The red border then shows the 1:2 result.
IJA 11th Infantry Division seems to have taken the most casualties but still has 229 AV.
The IJA units in Reserve were not touched.
1st Infantry is almost fully recovered from the first battle so could rotate back into the front line soon with 11th Div to move to Reserve.

US 33rd Infantry Div has been zeroed and lots of major % reductions in the other Allied assault values.
Casualties were at 1:2 with almost 1000 Allied AV disabled, but the Allies have a lot better access to more supply and hospital beds to recover than the IJA does.

The Chittagong defenders will remain in place to try and cause more delay.
Will the Allies keep trying frontal attacks or try something different?
Movement arrows have been spotted to the inland flank (the Lushai Hills?).

This is the aftermath with the 15th Army stack still in fantastic shape.
11th Div looks like the only Div that saw combat with 0 Disruption for the others. I think it gained an experience point to 94.
The AT gun units took a battering again though. 47mm guns against Allied tanks...

20th Div is in the hex just SE of Chittagong digging into the Jungle terrain to protect the withdrawal route.
The force moving to flank is only about a Bde so is of no real threat to cutting the road south from Chittagong as it wouldn’t be strong enough to dislodge 20th Div.
There are 17 enemy units at the Aussie flag base and another 13 at Dacca.
The enemy unit in the Jungle hex looks like a British Bde, possibly Chindits.
This front looks fairly secure for the next month or so.
Chittagong has enough supply to last another month or two.

These aren’t the best Escorts but they achieved multiple direct hits and did the job.
They still have second rate depth charges and don't have a surface search radar.

They were only ordered to this hex to hunt this sub yesterday, so were not expected to claim a kill so soon.
A large dose of good luck involved in this one I expect.

Checked the next morning and they are the old Momi Class DDs so crew experience is a lot higher than some of the other Escorts.

The first Ki-94-II factory gets to 30(0) overnight.
It was setup in the first week of the war, I think with three others.
Two were added relatively recently so are some way behind.
Ki-94 research has the Ha-44 engine bonus (there are about 1400 in the pool) so it will only take 50 days to advance a month, then that will start to help the other research factories repair faster.

How do people use the 1st Raiding Force which comes with IJA Raider Squad devices?
It is currently on ships moving to Singapore.

I’ve got no plan at the moment other than using them as a small garrison unit in Thailand once the Royal Thai Army disbands.
But garrison duty for troops with 85 experience seems like a waste. They certainly wouldn’t be happy in that role…
An alternative could be to have a bit of fun with them and try to capture an Allied dot hex somewhere via SST, just not a Soviet base or one that would trigger any emergency reinforcements!

This unit isn't para capable, and I'm also not sure if they can move by SST or not.
I had a quick look for some old posts on "raiders" but most of them were talking about AMC instead of these infantry units.
I'll test out the SST option at some point.

There are two green dot bases still on the map in the DEI that could be targets, even though they have zero value to the war effort.
1. Sintang in the NW of Borneo
2. Kalao N of Flores - this base puts up an error message when I tried to land using an amphib task force a few times before.

Both of the above two bases have been waiting for a para unit to arrive to take them, but this Raiding unit could move into Sintang and back out on foot.

The next aim is to try and keep the VP ratio above 2:1 by the time 1 Feb 45 arrives, but that is going to be a much bigger challenge.
To achieve that it looks like IJHQ will need to try and keep the Allies to about 40k points while at the same time increasing the score for the red team to 80k.
Failing a points increase, if IJHQ maintain the current 70k score then the Allies will need to be kept under 35k.

The upcoming Battles for the Marianas and Burma are the most likely Allied approaches, but Allied advances through the Kuriles or DEI can’t be ruled out.

DD Uzuki is heavily damaged but is still afloat, which feels like a win for a DD after being hit by a torpedo!

Rangoon will be a dangerous place for emergency repairs but HQ SWAF are prepared to take the risk to reduce the major flood damage and at least some of the system damage.
The 4/44 upgrade for the Mutsuki Class gives them Type 2 depth charges and surface search radars, so should significantly boost their ASW capabilities.

2nd Tank Div is out of supply as not enough is able to move forward to Silchar anymore.
That’s a good sign that it is time to start withdrawing some troops back towards Burma to shorten the supply lines.
I don’t want to abandon Silchar without a fight though, as while it is held it blocks the railway resupply to Dacca.

Imphal expands fortifications to size 5 – stopped. HQ Burma Area Army doesn’t think enough supply can be spared to build the forts up to size 6. Imphal might also be bypassed and surrounded.
902 Ku S-1 on BB Fuso converting to size 24 from 22 – this is a Rex float fighter training unit that will withdraw on 1 Apr 44 so it was increased slightly to create a few more pilot training slots.

Loss of xAK Kasuga Maru #2 on Feb 02, 1944 is admitted
TK Nittetsu Maru arrives at Tokyo – a big Type 2 TL with 10800 capacity. These tankers need 30 merchant shipyard points each so once a few more are finished the demand for merchant shipyard production will start to drop away. All xAK have been halted already. The pre-war plan was to not build the Army CVEs, but saving HI points by mothballing merchant shipyards doesn’t look to be needed yet. As the merchant shipyard capacity starts to free up the Army CVEs will be accelerated to try and bring them back to late 1944 arrival dates. With aircraft capacity of 8 and 12 they aren’t the best ships and will probably be sunk quickly by USN subs, but combined they could add another 40 fighters to a coastal hex CAP somewhere until they are sunk.

Loss of TK Eiwa Maru #4 on Feb 02, 1944 is admitted

N1K5-J George should accelerate in 1 day to 3/44 then again in 13 more days, so will start production on about 17 Feb 44.
The pre-war plan was to let the 8x 30 George-5 research factories join the 2x60+2x30 George-3 production factories to build a big pool of George-5s.

P1Y2 Frances also has 3x30 on research with only 6 days to go until it starts production. 1x30 will enter production while 1x30 will move to A7M3-J and J7W1. That will soon make 4x30 research factories on A7M3-J Sam and 4x30 on J7W1 Shinden as they currently have 3x30 each.

The revised plan is that I’m going to only let 2x30 George-5 move from research to production then change 6x30 from George-5 research to make 10x J7W1. The decision on J7W1 over the A7M3-J is based on the comparative stats below.
The IJN will still produce 120x A7M3-J a month just to see how they perform. The UP firing 30mm cannon looks interesting, has anyone used this aircraft as an auxiliary Night Fighter?

One of the major benefits of tweaking the plan for these models is that all of these late war IJNAF fighters use the same Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine, so I won’t have to make major changes to engine production.
