Martin, some UK newspapers wrote today that there was no volcanic ash cloud above UK and that all was hoax... [X(]

What does RAF say about that (AFAIK there were some RAF test flights and there was some engine damage due to deposited particles inside engine due to volcanic ash)?

Ah, the UK press [:D]

What the RAF said was that all non-essential flights were off. If the Russians had come for a visit then fighters would've been sent up, or if there was a casevac needed then we'd have sent an aircraft. As things were 216 (and 101 and 99) spent the week on the ground. Our engines were blanked and other intakes etc were coverd, so clearly someone thought the ash was real. We've had a few checks to do on aircraft that have or might have flown through the ash.
