US Navy shoots down Syrian SU-22

Link

"A Syrian regime SU-22 dropped bombs near SDF fighters south of Tabqah and, in accordance with rules of engagement and in collective self-defense of Coalition partnered forces, was immediately shot down by a U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet," the command said in a release."

""Coalition aircraft conducted a show of force and stopped the initial pro-regime advance toward the SDF-controlled town," the release said.

Following the advance on the SDF, the coalition alerted Russian counterparts to de-escalate the situation. However the forces -- backed by President Bashar al-Assad -- did not appear to back down, with the Su-22 entering the area, CentCom said."

No doubt RT/Sputnik will comment on how the plane was piloted by orphans, delivering medical supplies and newborn babies to young mothers, or something.

Change in RoE? Perhaps that question is answered.

Thanks for the post.

Kevin

Edit: any tactical info emerging on this encounter? It's been since 1999 that the US took down a hostile a/c.

Is it a late April's Fool news? Netherland company Neyk just recently announced a multi-use, windowed submarine concept for private, commercial and military customers. They claimed the prototype will be ready at 2018. But other than that, New Atlas found it skeptical and cannot determine if Neyk is real or not:

Unindentified catamaran sighted. Speculated to be equipped with long range SURTASS and part of the PLAN's ASW defenses, as well as to conduct snooping off the shores of other nations... "CNS Impeccable", so to speak [:D]

[:D]That one brings back memories[8D]

No Syria scenarios in the works at the moment - I suppose you could take 'Old Grudges Never Die', add some F-22s and change the dates [;)]

syria scenarios are a little weird iMO. besides it spiraling into WWIII there's not much to do with it because it's mostly attacking ~helpless targets.

Command has trouble modeling low-intensity conflicts like syria because of the timescales and the ease/difficulty of recon. without a very detailed model of infantry/camouflage/cover/underground systems/false flags etc. you can't really model COIN convincingly IMO.

granted if what you want is a A-A shootout over syria old grudges never die serves OK i think.

I'd prefer something that slowly escalates, but I guess that's more suited to a campaign.

Not sure if Command has difficulty at all with the model per se. It can certainly model a carrier group on station for weeks before stuff hits the fan. Players are not understandably into that. That said, I have been trying to come up with less than WW3 scenarios that irrupt and then calm down geopolitically. Take a look at Container Wars in the Community pack. A container ship was in the news recently. [:D]

Teasers for the upcoming Chinese Military Parade on August 1st, the 90th Anniversary of the PLA.

The new aircraft types that have been spotted doing the rehearsals tell of their deployment status in the PLAAF:

4x J-20 Stealth Fighters (out of five J-20 previously spotted doing the rehearsals)

Five ship flight of J-20 here:

7x J-16 Strike Flankers (estimated about 50 planes in service by now)

And as bonus; Chinese official media has pretty much admitted that the J-20 exists by releasing this bit of footage during evening news.

German Airforce is "looking into" ordering the F-35 as a "next-generation Tornado replacement", ruffling feathers with EADS and Dassault which would prefer to sell the Typhoon and Rafale respectively.

http://www.defensenews.com/articles/us- ... test-fails

It's healthy to admit failure, especially given the amount of money being spent. But one might understand keeping quiet with the ongoing North Korea situation. Maybe it is not that simple.

it's always wise to take ballistic intercept test failures with a grain of salt IMO. granted it could have been a software/hardware fault, but if the missile just missed you can always fire more missiles.

Hong Kong media published that President Xi will visit Hong Kong on 1 July (HKSAR's Anniversary Day) along with PLA Show Event locally. They will bring Liaoning CV and J-20 for publics to see. I still yet to find the relevant detail about the entry though:
