So....does anyone here own a Nook or Kindle?
I'm trying to decide between eInk and LCD.
Wife unit got me a color Nook for my recent b-day. Wife unit used to own a POS Sony e-reader and more recently bought a large-sized Kindle. She likes her Kindle very much. So far I'm enjoying my Nook quite a bit too.
I would say for periodicals with color images (including some web browsing), the Nook is more functional, whereas the Kindle is really easy on the eyes for straight-up B/W reading of text.

Yesterday evacuation was set for 1800 today. Changed to any minute. To much rain in Montana and Canada. Bismarck/Mandan are in a sticky wicket also. I can still hear the sirens and helicopters (mostly news) 14 years later. Still sends shivers up my spine. Their summer is gone. North Dakota State Fair, Gone. Majot hit to the economy. Then comes the rebuilding. That will take at least five years. At the very least.

Sooner or later i gotta get one. If for the fact that the Kindle DX is so freakin expensive i might go with that. A 9.7 eInk Pearl screen is good for both hardbacks and even textbooks, assuming they ever put such tombs as Lacroix or Friedman in electronic format.
The color Nook is better than the 6in readers which are good for paperbacks only. It's 7.1 inches but even the sales staff admits that the color Nook is aimed mainly at kids and magazine readers who want to have internet access and play games. I want a reader. HOWEVER....i like the color screen better for highlighting vs. eInk. god.....tearing my hair out [:)]

Not true on the Color Nook marketing focus. It's not a toy. It IS better suited to periodicals because of its color qualities, but reading novels or large books is just fine on it...I'm about a third of the way through "Dead or Alive" by Tom Clancy and just finished up with "With the Old Breed: on Pelileu and Okinawa" by E.B. Sledge in its entirety. The Color Nook has been fine with both.
One very clear difference: battery life. The Kindle screen only draws power when you change a page. Battery life is quite inpressive. The Color Nook is backlit, so it draws power faster. I can get 6-8 hours of use between recharges, but my wife goes days on end without having to recharge her Kindle.

Love my Kindle. I read in low to bright light including full sunshine at the beach. If you read in bed in the dark you should consider the nook or an iPad. Photo's render just OK on the kindle so if there a lot of pictures and maps maybe not the kindle, but if it is just the written word one of the best toys I ever got. Use it every day.

On the plus side. No mosquitos. Though I found one thing I hate about my new neighborhood. Well two and a half years. I found a bloody woodtick. Just from being in the yard.

It's really nice having a library with you were ever you go. Just found out that it's going to take another 2 hours to fix your car? Download another book. Saw a newspaper that looks interesting? Download it. Or a single issue of a magazine. Where I am now , it's very difficult to get a European newspaper or magazine.But it's only a few clicks away on my Kindle.
I'll always purchase non-fiction in hardcover. But I'll never buy another Paperback novel again if I can help it.[:)]
I got myself a kindle and it's been great, especially when I'm away with work. Instead of taking half a dozen books I just take one small device.
I'm not sure what's avaialble on nook, but there are often some good free books on Amazon for the kindle. Hitler's Preemptive War and Sherlock Holmes are the highlights from Amazon and War of the Worlds from another site for free [8D]

I bought a refurbished 16gb wifi-only iPad as an eReader. It'll read all the formats, is a nice size, and is only hard to read in direct full sunlight (but toss up a beach umbrella and you're good). It's more expensive, but it's less expensive than buying a Nook and a Kindle.
Plus it will do other things as well. Very useful tool.

I've got the Kindle 3g. I also purchased the book cover with the built in book light. It is very,very good holding a charge, even with the light. I really have no complaints at all about it. When I leave home, I often forget my cell phone, but almost never my Kindle.
