Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, consul and leader of the democratic party, was defeated, by Q. Lutatius Catulus outside Rome, the remnants of the rebel was wiped out by Cnaeus Pompeius in Etruria.
Pompey marches to Spain to join with Quintus Metellus Pius to suppress the revolt of Quintus Sertorius, but was generally unsuccessful.
City of Tigranakert built.

Agricola* is named governor of England, a post he occupies until 84. He extends the Roman influence to the mouth of the Clyde (Scotland).
A Roman squadron, sent by Agricola, explores the north of Scotland for the first time, discovering the Orkney Islands and the Shetlands.
King Giru of Baekje succeeded the throne of Baekje in Korean peninsula.
Pliny the Elder published the first ten books of Naturalis Historia.
The Romans develop a simple method of distillation.**

Romans conquer the Ordovices, located in present-day northern Wales, as well as the Silures.
Gnaeus Julius Agricola replaces Sextus Julius Frontinus as governor of Roman Britain.
Indian Prince Aji Caka introduces Sanskrit language and Pallawa script, used to inscribe Javanese words and phrases, to the Indonesian islands.
This is the base year (year zero) of the Saka era used by some Hindu calendars, the Indian national calendar, and the Cambodian Buddhist calendar. It begins near the vernal equinox for the civil solar calendar, but begins opposite the star Spica for the traditional solar calendar.
Kanishka I (78-144), reigns over the Tocharian Empire of Kusana (Afghanistan and Northern India). He is a renowned conqueror and wise administrator.
Pacorus II is king of Parthia (78-115)
The philosopher Wang Chong (Wang-Tchoung) claims all phenomena have material causes.

A rather grizzly death, iirc. Whatever desease he died from, it caused him to break out in sores and rashes all over his body as well as a contstant itch. He spent the last year of his life in some resort town at his villa soaking in mineral baths to make the pain and itching subside.
Far from the worst leader Rome had had, though. Started off as quite the reformer and proponent of popular rights....but as with many Roman leaders, slipped into despotism with age and died quite unpopular. His biggest support base came from his old legionaires, who adored him and on whom he lavished both money and land.
