Year 77 CE:
Agricola* is named governor of England, a post he occupies until 84. He extends the Roman influence to the mouth of the Clyde (Scotland).

*EDIT - the first Un-cola!! [:'(]

Wanna correct you, there, Bob. Agricola was actually the "other cola". The First Cola was this guy....

I wanna ask the Thread Brothers for advice. I recently decided that I'm sick to death of sitting on my tuches and crying about lost loves. As long as its summer, I wanna get out and see some stuff. Can any brethren suggest some places where one might go on a weekend trip from NYC to air oneself out? Historical themes are preferred, but any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Year 78 CE:

Romans conquer the Ordovices, located in present-day northern Wales, as well as the Silures.

Gnaeus Julius Agricola replaces Sextus Julius Frontinus as governor of Roman Britain.

Indian Prince Aji Caka introduces Sanskrit language and Pallawa script, used to inscribe Javanese words and phrases, to the Indonesian islands.

This is the base year (year zero) of the Saka era used by some Hindu calendars, the Indian national calendar, and the Cambodian Buddhist calendar. It begins near the vernal equinox for the civil solar calendar, but begins opposite the star Spica for the traditional solar calendar.

Kanishka I (78-144), reigns over the Tocharian Empire of Kusana (Afghanistan and Northern India). He is a renowned conqueror and wise administrator.

Pacorus II is king of Parthia (78-115)

The philosopher Wang Chong (Wang-Tchoung) claims all phenomena have material causes.
Shouldn't that be "Wang Chung"
[:)] Yep I am here all week too[:D]

Gettysburg is great
Valley Forge is OK
Boston is only a few hours away and has lots of history (Just leave your Yankees gear home[;)]) You could combin this with the Nautalus museam in Groton, CT. We went there last wekend and had a good time.
Philadelphia is fun as is DC
Baltimore has history and supposedly a great singles scene.

Stop by a travel agent or AAA office for brocures and ideas

Oh, boy oh boy. Let's see. From New York...

Fort Ticonderoga

Corning Glass Museum (not history I know, but I am told it's great...)

Mystic Seaport, Mystic Conneticutt. This would be a day trip for you I think. I have been there. The place is great.

You could take the train to Washington DC. The Smithsonian is great......

You could just move on to the enevitable like i have and given up on true love and moved on to meaningless random relationships. There realy is a great upside[:D]. I have always wanted to go down and see all the civil war battlefields in virginia. But thats just me.
