Smacks a little of post-facto rationalization. "Nonono, there really WAS a serious point to Red Dawn". And they're not making a sequel, but a remake; and they must all die for it.

It's just laziness, "we can't be arsed to think of a new idea so we'll do a remake of an old film".

I get that whole feeling about every single remake ever. If the writers etc are any good they'll be able to think of their own ideas instead of ripping off ideas from the 50s/60s/70s/80s.

Actually heard one of the writers discuss this movie a while back. He said the intent was completely misinterpreted when people took it literally. It was more intended to communicate the effect of being invaded and occupied in a way that American's could understand better.

And here i thought it was just a quick cheesy way to make a buck.
