I watched Moneyball this weekend. A nice enough sports film. And that I don't know more about baseball than the basics, did not detract from my enjoyment of watching it. I think all football fans could enjoy it. Partly because that there are not enough good football flicks.
And Warspite1, Moneyball is not Genuine Frontier Gibberish. [;)] [:D]
+1
Although the film over-simplified things. Go to
http://www.fangraphs.com/ for some real analytics.
Yes. I understood that the movie simplified things. They tend to do that. [:)]
I suspect that the coach (is that the right title?), who in the movie is portrayed as opposed to the changes, in reality did a great work in reality. Although what do I know. [:D]

I guess it was already mentioned here, but I just discovered this Russian production. It is a 18 parts documentary about the Russian Front in WWII.
It is called "Soviet Storm". Very, very little propaganda, lots of facts, and a well realised blending of real actors and CG. I'm hooked.

Fortitude ended last night. Its been pretty grim fare and without an entirely satisfactory ending as well - but I suppose it means a 3rd series is on the cards.

Thanks in advance for this. [&o]
I've been looking for this very thing, but am wary of MOTHER RUSSIA's propaganda in their more recent films and revisionism in their more recent textbooks and documentaries.

Recently finished season four of The Americans, and as had previously said, it was a step down in quality. Although it was still a decent show.

And I also finished the final season of Mr Selfridge and it was a disappointment. The three previous seasons had been nice enough but the fourth season had few redeeming qualities.

The narrator of the wonderful Battlefield Series - Tim Pigott-Smith - has died. A fine actor with a voice that gave gravitas to the documentaries

Just watched the first one and it was "Okay". The narration, maps and basic backstory were well done, but the reliance on sometimes amateurish CGI was offputting. I'd rather just not have it or use film instead.
When CGI is not done well (particularly when they combine it-as they frequently do-with live actors) it makes you notice. Like umpires or referees, CGI should not be called out as clearly CG. That misses the point. It evokes the "uncanny valley" wherein our minds create (literally!) discomfort with the image because of the not-quite-real discordance it creates.
I'll watch the second episode and reserve final judgement.

Très bon. But it won't be quite the same
sans Henrietta.

"Yesterday's Enemy"
In WW2, during the Japanese invasion of Burma, the lost remnant of a British Army Brigade HQ, led by the ruthless captain Alan Langford, escapes through the jungle toward the British lines.
Hammer Films did more than just horror.

Anyone see the new Doctor Who episode?
I thought it was pretty good and the new assistant - Bill - offers something very different to Clara.
A reasonable start to the series.

It reminded me of Shada - an absent minded timelord professor.
