The "polar night" started during that week, meaning that the sun never rose above the horizon. In all honesty though, it isn't (/wasn't) that bad. There was light enough for a couple of hours at least. And when it got really dark and depressing, you could always have a sauna and a couple of beers at the hotel [:D]

You are making "homesick". [:D] I actually loved the time I spent in the artic. Yes it was dark all winter , and light all summer. But it was generally dry, if cold. The two years I spent in Seattle I found much more depressing, as I didn't see the sun for months at a time , and it was always raining! [:(][:D]
