Since there are no more troops available for rescue anywere, I have charged the submarines with offensive operations. They will for the time being take up positions around Noumea in the attempt to get a shot of any of the carriers in the Kido Butai.

Should not the men in Pearl be rescued?

I have no possibility of sailing any ships into Pearl. The distance Ms.Betty can fly is far enough to ensure the sinking of any convoy without heavy air support. Since I at the moment have the Long Island and one of the Brit CV (do not recall which atm) only that are capable of providing air support this is a no go. (espesially since the Brit CV is just off NZ)

I might save fractions by subs I suppose, but I HOPE Operation Rudolf might help me relieve Pearl indirectly. The problem about saving the men at Pearl by subs are that there simply are not that many subs available in the US waters (some 12 or so).

12 subs = 12 units that can be rebuilt. Since you are likely to have more US replacements than units to put them in for the near future. PH is en prise.

Yea, I guess I'll need to do that, just move out a partion to keep the unit alive.

When the Hornet is finished with repairs (at 62% dmg now I believe), the Brit carrier should be present at the West Coast, and I should also have gotten a new US carrier. Guess I will have to put almost nothing but fighters on them and head for the Hawaiian islands on a hunt for Bettys.

Unless Op.Rudolf pays off as hoped. We'll see.

Once more the enemy has shown his troublesome ability to read our thoughts. Today we came under light aerial attack from an enemy task force. Estimate one enemy carrier and some heavy cruisers as escorts. Please advice.

*sigh* Well withdrawing now will not work. TF-Presents will separate the minesweepers, and order those to proceed as planned, while the fighting ships of the task force will try to engage enemy fleet. Godspeed!

June 2nd 1942

At CiCPac HQ the silence is pressing. Everyone realises that the chance of a surprise invasion of the Christmas Islands are gone, and that the presence of long range Japanese bombers as well as Japanese carriers means that there is no option but to press on the attack. To turn around would mean to lose every unit involved for no gain, to press on might still capture the base, but the cost will be great.
Allready several ships are lost and many a man has found a watery grave.
Things do not look good for the Allies.

June 3rd 1942

The tension at CiCPac HQ continues to rise as new casualties are reported from the TFs heading for Christmas Island, however now it is claimed that the ships can spot the island in the horizon. Hopefully the troops will arrive at the island during the night, early morning. Then maybe this will not have been a waste after all.

It is wondered if you wish to play another campiagn against Stormwolf --> Have played as allies in a number of campaigns but never as Axis.

It would be more realistic if the NikMod scenario is used (it is a far more realistic version of air to air combat and ASW), allowing the axis carriers to be challenged early in the war
(like they were in history at Midway, etc)

Sir, as of today I am refusing any offensive operations for close to a year. Please see the attached report to understand why.

At CiCPac HQ the silence is pressing. The losses suffered during Operation Rudolf were horrendous. Of almost 50.000 men that left the West Coast, only some 6500 managed to get ashore on Christmas Islands, although they have equal numbers to the Japanese defenders, they are without supplies, without air support and without naval support. Those poor men are all doomed unless something unexpected happens, but as everyone at CiCPac HQ knows, unexpected events always favour the Japanese...

Senator Naskra is also demanding an inquiry into the alleged deposits into Swiss bank accounts held by senior administraiton officials.

June 6th 1942

Once more tranquility settles in the Pacific. The few Allied troops on Christmas Island digs in and chose to only fire their cannons to see if this has any effect. Apart from that all is quiet.
As everyone at CiCPac HQ knows, quiet is usually followed by disaster...

June 7th 1942

By order of FDR all Allied victories are to be celebrated like V-Day. Therefore the mood is high at CiCPac HQ this day. It is not much, but a victory is a victory!

June 8th 1943

Our bombers sunk two more Japanese transports today as well as damaging another four. We do however count no less than six enemy ground units outside the city. Supply situation is still very good.

Black dots are our bases forces that the Japanese allows to live on so that they can toy with them (OOC: training targets), yellow dots are bases within enemy controlled area that we still hold and seem to be able to hold.
