Failed shock attack (85:217) by two division vs 100th Chinese Corp, HQ, and BF 1 NE of Wenchow (see what I mean Lowpe?)
I see.[:)]

I try and stuff Wenchow with a lot more than the 100th when I play..of course only played against the AI (Nasty Nasty) when playing Allies.

Going to date myself here. But remember the old TV show "Concentration?" Right now with Intel Reports, I'm trying to guess what the whole picture says from each report being a new panel flipped over. Two new panels came into view last turn (May 3rd). [:)] 4th ID prepping for Geraldton & 21/A ID prepping for Geraldton. Add in previous report of 33rd ID prepping for Albany and western Australia is on the menu. [:(]

Reasoning - John will try to isolate Australia from reinforcements. With western Australia he makes any TF coming from Cape Town subject to raiders. He loves his small SC TF with 4 DDs and 1 or 2 CLs. He landed in Marquesas Islands on 3rd (Intel gave me warning). He may try to capture enough of the deep SE Pacific to cut off NZ by same method.

Serious question: does John ever NOT go for western Australia?

Does it matter?

In my game against NJP he took the entire island of Tasmania and the east coast down to brisbane along with Port Augusta and Adelaide.

Because I did not invest a lot of troops here I maintained a steady 1/2 million supply even with brisbane being destroyed industrially.

Do you really need to reinforce Australia?

In fact, him taking Western Australia serves to weaken his forces elsewhere and stretch his lines beyond limits capable of protection.

My best advice to you is formulate your strategic and tactical battle plans moving forward and execute them regardless of what nonsense John creates. From mid 43 on it is your game to run.

Are you saying the entire Japanese war effort is full of sound and fury signifying nothing? The Japanese are nothing but actors on a stage playing their role (getting whacked?) Say it isn't true Joe, say it isn't true.

Yes. Michael is trying to piece together what is coming next. He has noted the planning for western Australia as a component. But if John always goes for western Australia, then the only thing about it that might be helpful is how he is going after western Australia, not if he is going after it. Insofar as using the data as Michael says he is, yes, it matters.

We exchanged some info in today's phone call while I was on my way to see a teenager and his family for possible intensive in home family therapy. His BB/BCs used at Pearl have seen significant increase in night experience. He reported three divisions on Java now have experience levels over 90. [X(] The Americal Divisions and the soon to be arriving 41st Division have theirs at 40. Western Australia is nothing but clear terrain. I can have massive forts, but with those BB/BCs coming in with invsaion TFs, my disruption levels will still be too high to hold the base (Geraldton or Albany). It will be a token resistance here. Right now, I want to get troops, supplies, and fuel in before he strikes.

Intel Report for May 4th -
23 Tank prepping for Prince Rupert (2nd Tank Rgt for this base)
48th ID prepping for Nadi (two NZ Bde dug in at Suva). So this could be disinformation, but with John it could be part of his never ending expansion. [:D]

Sara - 37 days left for repairs

AVG/3rd - destroyed 24 unescorted 1e bombers on 'milk run' near Changteh (China).

Did you and John die or something? No updates in 1 day. You've got a duty to your readers.

I've got PTWS real bad right now. I think I'll hijack the forum (hijacking an AAR is just small thinking).

Vic - we are entering the 'calm b4 the storm' period. [&:]

May 5th - FT TFs at both Derby and Broome. I move 16x A-24 DBs to Port Hedland. Hope to get lucky as the group has been training for months.

San Fran - CV Yorktown & Hornet heading up coast with CVL King's Mtn, 4 DD ASW TF, SC TF with Warspite, 3 modern CLs and DDs. Decided to send most shipping to Panama. Support ships formed up and ordered to leave. Fastest xAP/AKs order to load supplies for Panama. Troops getting on rails for Eastern USA. Many of troops and ships will end up at Port Stanley. Time to get foothold in SE Pacific.

Overall, just pushing the build up part of war for next few months.

May 6th

Broome and Derby now in enemy hands

Fleeing AVP from Broome sunk by RO-33 2 North of Port Hedland

16 A-24 Banshee miss DDs (part of Fast Transport TF off Broome that is now SC TF made up of 4 CLs, 6 DD, 3 APD) just off Port Hedland

Usual bombing in China

2 CAs, 4 DDs bombard Tahiti. No Intel Reports showing he is invading, but John loves this base.

Cape Town - busy loading troops for Australia. Will take a very southern route.

An important contribution by the Free French forces to Allies are the two Surcouf Class subs - Surcouf and Bouvier. Both have FPs on them and have just left San Fran with SS Tautog. Destinations are Pearl and then Christmas Island on way to Tahiti to see if they can recon those bases to spot KB.

Interesting addition - especially since the RL Surcouf was lost in a collision with a Lykes line freighter before France surrendered.

Let us know if it uses those ridiculous 8" guns!

It's alternate history so it's fine the Surcouf was not lost before hostilities started in the Pacific.

Yes, they will use the 8" guns.

Be careful not to allow this sub class to upgrade.

They will lose the aircraft capacity in doing so.

Not saying they wouldn't be used, but would be interested in knowing how well they perform re: accuracy & rate of fire. Would you want to be one of the matelots hauling 250 lb shells over to the guns? I doubt there was much mechanization of loading. I suspect the performance will be like PG Soerabaja which has a couple of 11" single mount guns but rate of fire is abysmal and accuracy poor. When it does get a hit on something it is pretty neat. Surprised the heck out of an IJN cruiser one time!

In RL, Surcouf was lost in fev 42 while enroute to Tahiti. Sunk by A-17 planes based in Panama. It is nowadays main hypothesis (friendly fire).

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me - the article I read many years ago had pictures of the damaged bow of the Lykes line ship. The collision happened in the black of night so the crew never knew what they hit until Surcouf was reported overdue. IIRC, the article said it was in the Atlantic. If there is any substantiating evidence to the friendly fire theory (other than the air unit attacking something) I would be interested to hear.
