He's pretty much landed nowhere on the Philippines, apart from Luzon.

Yorktown gives up the fight and goes under. No sign of his carriers and all my ships are unspotted. As mentioned, he probably has fuel issues and departed to base.

Clark is plugging along, making little headway. I Hope someday, my Marauders will fly a strike.

Since my shipping from Luzon is now safe, I've removed the long waypoints and they'll head directly back to Pearl.

Several USAAF squadrons were due for withdrawal from Melbourne. Several B-17 units gone, along with some fighters. Aussie troops still unloading there. Close to 2,000 AV now defending, so they should hold awhile. He hasn't taken any real shot at Perth for awhile. An Aussie P-40 squadron showed up there. They're pretty much trapped and if I withdraw them, the planes are gone. They did have 8 in reserve, which I sent back to the pool.

18 March 1942

KB has returned to harass my ships, sinking many transports. I've split everyone up into single ship TFs to try and get away.

Wagga Wagga finally falls.

I'm getting overcrowded in Melbourne, so B-17s and B-26s are relocating to New Zealand. Everyone else is stuck there. I'm up to 2,200 AV there, with an infantry division and armored regiment still unloading.

I'm watching for movement south of Moulmein. I have components of an Australian unit there also at Diamond Harbor, so I want to reunite them soon. Shipping more to Australia is kinda off the table now, and I think I'm going to get all that I'm going to get for Australia's reinforcements.

Units shuffling around in China. I'm getting more troops to the cities west of Changsha. My big mob at Ichang is moving south along the east side of the river.

In the Philippines, I have everyone on Mindanao now reunited at Cagayan.

More base units are enroute to Pago Pago. I have two dive bomber units and a ton of fighters there. More base units are now enroute to Savaii. I want to get an interconnected chain of airbases going there, like I did in the game against KenchiSulla. Another regiment of Marines arrives in East US, and I'm prepping them for another island in the Gilberts. When I take Tarawa, I'll grab another two islands there also.

I wouldn't as your odds are currently 1-2 in your DB. He is still in supply and fort level is still 2 and you didn't reduce it in your last attack. You might want to continue to bombard him with artillery and air attacks until you are well rested before trying another attack, if time is on your side. If not then you have to press the issue, and rest shock attack once supply or fort level is low for him.

The most important unit at this stage is your Combat Engineer Regiment. If it came out of last attack with little disruption, consider another DA right away. Otherwise, get some recovery first, but still use DA until those forts are down one more level. Then you have a chance of getting in a good shock attack.
Because of the Urban Light terrain you will need at least 3:1 in raw AV before doing this.

In Melbourne, I'm withdrawing some of the very depleted air units, beefing up the remainder. Hudsons and Wirraways, mainly. The last B-17 left for New Zealand. I'm bombing his troops in the open ground in the hexes north of this base. He seems to be taking his time coming here. If they enter in ones and twos, I'll make them hurt.

Latest attack at Clark went well. I really, really want to go all in next turn, but disruption is starting to be a problem here, so I'll rest a couple of days first. I hate to see his forts go up again, but it cannot be helped.

Formidable is a few days away from Colombo. My two beat up R class battleships are fit enough to go to Cape town, so they'll be out in 3 days.

I have three big amphib convoys at or enroute to Moulmein. Once everyone is landed, I'll look at a big push into Thailand. Weakling forces won't be able to stop this, and I'll still have enough at Moulmein to blunt any attack there.

A number of troop convoys will reach Pago Pago and Savaii soon. I want those bases loaded up soon to be a big air power center.

Unless your disruption at Manila is in the 30s or higher, I think you have him where you want him and a shock attack should do the job. He lost another 25% of his AV destroyed and a few more disabled. Disruption is showing up as a minus for the Japanese. And the forts are down to one. I would go for it because he will gain AV in recovery too.

If you want to help ensure a good SA, look at Inspiration for your leaders and if necessary swap in some that can really rally the tired troops.

The combat summary showed you at (-) disruption so you may be right to allow one day to get the down before shock attacking, can you bombard with air before to keep his disruption up?

Perth finally falls, as does Adelaide. Things are also turning against the holdouts at Rockhampton, which will probably fall within a few days.

He's also finally gotten around to taking Babuyan and Batan Island, north of Luzon.

My guys at Clark are going all in tomorrow. We'll see.

A tanker returning from Pago Pago got hit. Fortunately, the fuel's been delivered. Flt is around 25, so she'll probably get back.

Fairly quiet in the air, except for the usual in China.

On my last attack at Clark, it looks like more units moved in on his end, pretty much ending my hope of taking that base. I attacked in Manila, in case he stripped that base, but that attack was dismal also. I'll just hold out for now, as he can't easily pitch me either.

He's taking his time around Melbourne. Some units showing up in neighboring hexes, but not many yet.

He's landing troops at Obi, in the DEI, south of Ternate, in the gap between there and Ambon.

The 'all in Australia' therefore must leave open .... <insert X> ; I had failed to ponder this.

Supply and troops have been diverted from somewhere.

Further from the mentioned advice previously (Japanese experts) - perhaps 'Luzon can wait' much as I have heard other Japan experts proclaim Singapore can wait. I had not envisioned that late 1942 for Luzon "is good enough".

From a Victory point of view the Allied VP loses in Sydney / Perth - are they offset by the Allied win in Bangkok for example ?? Cam Rhan Bay eventually ?

With 'stacks' in China - stacks in Australia - stacks in DEI - stacks now being deployed to clean up the Philippines... what stacks are left for the Pacific coast of French Indo China border regions ?

Despite that it is only March 1942 - Time / supply must be running very thin on Australia ; All in Melbourne fro the win ?

I have a big convoy nearly done unloading at Melbourne. By the time they're done, I'll have some 160k in supply there, along with some good strong units defending it.

Overall, China's been fairly static, with him making some gains, and me the occasional counter-gain. I doubt he'll be taking the whole country.

I think he's fairly strong at Tavoy, but I'll just go around them to the east. It probably won't take much to roll up the Thai army.

Hornet's about 2 days from Pearl. With KB's whereabouts unknown, I may wait with the Gilberts until my Essexes roll in. I'll have lots more assault transports by then too, and every one should be fully prepped. Maybe I'll hit the Marshalls at the same time, and do a War Plan Orange on him.

Plenty to think about, so I'm not committing anything yet. I want to get a faster jump than I did with KenchiSulla.

Troops are spawning like vermin at Chungking and I'm sending many of them forward. Liuchow has accumulated some 4,400 AV now. It's highly tempting to push this mob south towards Canton, but I'll think it over a bit.

I've more troops shipping to the area from Diamond Harbor. I'm routing them to Rangoon first, as Moulmein's getting to be a less safe place to unload. Despite all my air search, I got taken completely by surprise and none of my planes attacked.

I'm sending about 1,000 AV east out of Moulmein to take some Thai bases. He has aircraft at some of these, and I can push them back. Maybe eventually threaten Bangkok. Plenty left behind to protect Moulmein. Recon's up watching for any inbound troops.

Okay... I'll start the story again.

A bit has happened since the last post. We're currently at 23 May 1942, so it's only been a month and a half. Before, Dave tended to do a turn every other day, but it's picked up in the last week to a turn a day, which suits me better. I don't want to be playing this for 10 years.

In Australia, it's all down to Melbourne now. Most all my troops are there. Any strays to the north are getting killed off. He's tried twice to attack, but I've beaten him off with very heavy casualties, so it's stalemated. I have about 2100 AV there and a little over 100,000 in supply. All the USAAF planes, I've either relocated or withdrawn. His CAP in there are has been too strong to deal with. All my B-17s relocated to Suva. I wound up hitting Efate, I think, with them and mangled a bunch of ACMs and such. He's been keeping any shipping out of those bases since. Recon Lightnings from there are watching for anything to show up.

KB appears to be holed up at Tulagi, but Coastwatchers have been giving me more sightings on the Australian east coast. They haven't been contributing to the ground war in Oz. CV Hiyo was spotted at Bowen last turn and Hiryu at Tulagi this turn. I've been getting about 1 CV sighting a day.

I've since been building up New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa the best I can. Mostly supply and fuel to the first, along with all the medium bombers from Australia. Heavy bombers at Suva, plus search planes. At Pago Pago and Savaii, I have a ton of planes stationed there. That will be a very tough nut to crack if he comes that ways.

In Burma, I had detached about 2,000 AV east to Rahaeng. Things didn't go too well as his forces closed the road behind them and I had to supply by air to keep them going. A few unsuccessful tries and I pulled them back to Moulmein, kicking a single IJA unit out of the way. He tried besieging Moulmein while I was out, but couldn't manage anything there either. I'm back up to strength there and now we're just staring at each other. He has a group of battleships bombarding me every night.

The two torp hits were nice, but more ships replaced them. No clue how badly the cruiser was damaged.

The 22nd East African Brigade is unloading at Colombo from Mombasa. They'll be off to Moulmein via Rangoon before long.

I'm building up strength at Pearl, shipping troops in from the States. I've been prepping troops for bases in the Marshalls. I would like to take that while his carriers are near Australia. I won't even start this at least until Wasp show up. Long Island arrived in Panama a couple days ago. I probably have enough troops for the job right now, but they need a lot of time to prep yet.

I'm getting enough troop transports in San Francisco that I was able to detach some of them to Seattle. I've been moving troops to Dutch Harbor. I'm prepping some of them Paramushiro-Jima, which is an idea I'm toying with. KB would be a non-factor here.

China is mostly static. I've got about 6000 AV departing Liuchow for the Canton area, to stir things up. I'll still have a couple thousand at Liuchow to guard that base. I'll see if he's weakened things down south.

Pretty much it. The war is mainly at Melbourne and Moulmein.
