No-and yes. For Germany and Russia at least Scorched Earth will be cranked way down, likely all the way to zero percent, to better model the slow progress of the rail net conversions and better favor the Logistics tech (which will be much more expensive than in vanilla), as well as the actual SE doctrines both used. [In earlier SC engines it was indeed zero] Everyone else will likely be at 10-20% at best. As I've argued upthread a few times, vanilla has these pernicious supply deserts where there are no towns at all, and thus nobody ever attacks into them, making for pat and predictable play and making encirclements even more problematic.

But now with vanilla SE up around 50% + 1-2 levels of Logistics we now have people operating stuff into newly-captured towns, which is very ahistorical. So everyone focuses on the same few roads, towns, and cities and brute forces their way through and into them, vs. doing any fancy manuevers, which given vanilla's small number of turns is the only way to make meaningful progress before the weather turns bad. Now you will have brief bursts of offensive activity, followed by pauses as they wait for the supply to catch up.

However, there are literal supply deserts in the south, where zooming into a small village on Google Maps often reveals absolutely nothing, maybe a tiny shack or a small group of tents if I am lucky. So I'll follow the WitE lead and not put anything there, other than a couple of strings of villages along the few roads that do exist.

Edit: I am not familiar with that file format, nor is my PC alas.
Hi, I know, this format is rare, you need to find some some software to open, it. I was a bit confused too, but I just went to
the polish page with free, trusted software, and found one. It look more or less like that:
South Ukraine.png
South Ukraine.png (1.49 MiB) Viewed 2079 times
There is one general scheme in this atlas, and one chart per each Soviet Republic or Oblast. All pretty intuitive really.
Cheers

Jazon, would appreciate a link to said software, if you could. [PM is fine]

How soon is the final date. I would like to do what I did with Kaser vs Europa. But this would be Napolean VI a French version Kaser vs Europa.

The terrain should be finished, for Europe at least, by the end of the year. While I plan to simplify the fringes of Russia, it is still a massive amount of terrain (I just finished the Volga basin the other day, specifically just the Kama, which by itself was a massive time-sink). Note someone else wanted it too, for a WW3 mod he had in mind-converting it to the WWI engine should be painless as well. I just request that you ask first. 8-)

A map like this and doing Napoleonic Wars would be awesome. The problem is their is no diplomacy system. You can't sue for peace etc...

If you look at my Kasar vs Europa game now out? there is no peace. This would not be the Napoleonic war, but 20th century France taking on all the Europe war. Historical games are full of Gremlins and glitches due to the nature of the game. Take both Time of Fury and Strategic Command, if one hold the Italy back from entering the war before 1942. Germany always win.

I would need someone to retool the units for a 19th century war.

THE OLD WORLD IS DONE!

Instead of the usual tight zoomed in screenies figured I'd give you all a much more special gift:

Image

Note that is just the thumbnail-feel free to right click and view in a separate window. It would have looked even more spectacular if file size restraints (both on my end and on the image hosting sites) weren't a consideration-had to shrink each individual screenie by 50%.

I did shortcut a lot of the terrain in the far NE since there will be no gameplay there, tho did hunt down most rivers in said region. Note the Aral Sea just managed to sneak onto the edge. The Russian capital progression will tentatively be Moscow-Gorky-Perm-Chelyabinsk. Russia took me 3 months and a week, whew, what a beast.

Now just the New World and that will be that-and most of Canada will be shortcutted like NE Russia was.

very impressive, and crazy amount of work
I think youy should ask Hubert for an additionnal or intermediate zoom level in the game engine ;) ;)

Probably best. Plotting in the myriad of lakes in Quebec and Ontario could drive one to drink.

When you create the fjords of Baffin Island don't forget to leave your signature in one of the glaciers. Slartibartfast will be impressed.

Fortunately I already did all that two years ago. /crazyprepared

OCB, let me finish the full thing first, then you can go to town. Should get it all done before Christmas.

rmelvin, this will become available to any modder who asks, tho I will put one condition on it-just give me a fairly comprehensive scenario outline/proposal. PM me your idea and we'll go from there.

The Land, you still want to make a WW3 scenario out of this?

Note I plan to try to export it to the WWI engine if someone wants to use it for the Great War.

Sorry gang, been a bit remiss with the holidays and other distractions, but SHE IS FINISHED!

New World:

Image

Can't believe I've been at the terrain for 14 months (as of next Monday), nor how it turned out. Once I realized I had sufficient tools at my disposal to make a pretty accurate map (a la a satellite photo as some here have put it), I felt I had to go for it.

The terrain is not fully finalized yet, as I will be hunting down some errors and deleting and adding some towns, and reconciling my standards for what I considered mountains, hills, and flat areas, since they slowly evolved as things went on. France for one will likely see some flattenings...

I didn't take a screenie of N. Canada because alas some errors arose that were due to the width restrictions in the editor (basically I couldn't tilt the New World to align with the approximate location of the North Pole-which is somewhere north of N. Scandinavia)-yeah I could have spent another month redrawing the entire bloody thing to align it better east-west but since there will be no gameplay up there I hope it won't ruin the overall aesthetics of the whole thing. Plus I was pretty much at the end of my rope burnout-wise by the end (you can only keep seeing the same tiles every day for 14 months straight before you start going buggy-eyed).

I am now working on the weather zones. Since (a) air units can now do missions in bad weather, and (b) I'll have a lot more turns than in vanilla, expect some differences from how vanilla weather operates. Summer will no longer typically be a rain & mud-free paradise, and spring and fall will typically be more stormy as well. In the colder months it isn't just a matter of how often you get actual rain per se, but how many overcast/foggy days you get as well as how quickly moisture evaporates.

Weather is a total adventure (in addition to being a geo junkie I am likewise with weather). 71 zones, starting on Russia tonight.

A bit of a conundrum for both the Nile and Mesopotamia flood valleys. I know that they only started to really go to town with dikes and flood control and such after the war. In SC if I make it semi-arid, I lose the Mud setting as the first menu is all greyed out. If I go with Temperate I lose dust storms.

So decided to go with Temperate for both so I could mimic the seasonal floods with the Mud setting:

I also decided to put a few secondary tributaries into the Nile Delta. Figured the loss of the dust storms is more than outweighed by players being aware of the possibility of floods and planning accordingly (they aren't a given note as in some years the flow can be rather low).
