Recon reports 38 enemy units in Chengting. I'm not sure either side will be capturing any cities. Japan really wants a quiet China though, so that's the last thing I will give them...

Hi, I think you misunderstand me in China. I dion't want the outcome of the war to be based on what Japan does in China. In China I keep things quiet because I don't want it to be the major theatre. There are a lot of VP in China that I ignore. If I was going for say a 1943 auto victory I would launch an offensive in China on Dec 7 and just plough my way to India. However I only move in China in reaction to Chinese movements and I stay east of the RR.
However if the Chinese lose a large number of formations conduting offensives the situation might change.
Normally I wait for the Allied player to move heavy bombers to China and employ them against targets outside China. Then I move to capture these bases.
(If he bombs targets in China I ignore him)
I'm not attacking Noumea because of it's VP value. If Noumea was empty of Allied formations it would also be empty of Japanese since I would have followed the Allied units.
I am attacking Noumea to kill the 1943/44 Allied offensive cycle. If I win I win the war.
If I lose I just convert to pure defense but I am trying to have the outcome of the war decided in the Pacific and not in China or India or against Soviets or in Austraila or US West Coast based on VP in Jan 1943. I am ready willing and able to fight all the way to 1946. That is my intent and why I conduct my operations where and when I do.
I don't try to tell the other player how to run his war. If you want an offensive in CHina then it is your right (in fact it is your duty) to conduct that offensive. But it does not bother me to fight there. I'm just not going to use it as a means to score points. However if you want to feed me VP I will accept them.
I withdrew from Yenen because it proved to be costing more then I was willing to pay.
I have the means (but not the will) Yenen would have been nice to own but it is not vital.
I will now repulse your attack and then take Yenen just to show you once for all that China east of the RR belongs to me and that you hold CHina west of the RR because I allow you to.

Hi, After the last Chinese offensive I divided the Japanese Army in China into 3 Armies.
North Center and South. AGN tried to take Yenen but the cost proved to be more then I was willing to pay. Currently AGC is moving to reinforce AGN while AGS extends the area it defends.
Prior to this Chinese attack for every 1 Japanese soldier fighting at Yenen 2 were doing nothing. Now they will have employment.

38 carrier based Zeros were downed today! His carries should be very low on fighter coverage now... an opportunity?

Hi, Well Noumea has not yielded the results I had hoped ( DUH)
I am playing 6 games as Japan. This is the most extreme I have got (and verifies why I am not so bold in the other games)
I have dug a hole for myself and must now dig myself out. I enjoy doing this.
Sveint cannot win the war sitting on Noumea but he has pretty much done job 1. Stop the Japanese.
There is still much fighting before the Battle of Noumea is complete. But I must extend a well done to my foe for his refusal to retreat. When the battle begun I thought it would be easy. Now I have to extract as much a price as I can. The Southern Defense is nearly as complete as I can make it and a reserve of troops will be ready once the last SRA bases are mopped up. The IJN is wrecked as an offensive force but I hope at a later date to prove it still has teeth. My other Allied opponents can thank Sveint for my better handling of my forces. (I learned a lot from this game)

The IJN gets some payback as I get overbrave and send a bombardment task force for Espiritou Santo.
At this stage of the war neither side can afford to get within range of LBA.
