OK, that sounds reasonable: just got to find somewhere to put the list.

I think it should go under the ops reports.

BTW, from the japanese perspective, this is one of the better features of your utility, since jap intel is for sh!t.

Keep up the good work.

Bodhi, have you considered of making WitpUtil a postcardware?

Bodhi.

I think there may be a problem with the tracking. I have just managed to get a couple of kills on a CA and a CL. The CA is a confirmed sunk, but when I pull her up on the ALL or on the regular list, it does not list her as being tracked or even attacked. Haven't had a chance to see if it worked in the past since this is the first set of kills since you added that feature.

The info does show up on the CRs, and it is in your data file that the program keeps. It just doesn't seem to be pulling it into the program.

Am I doing something wrong?

No, I don't think you're doing anything wrong: I think it's not picking up new info at times. Roger also reported the same problem, but when he sent me his files I could confirm it had happended, but couldn't reproduce it. [:(]

If you're not too far into the war (and thus haven't started to drop old info from the com_txt files) you can try the following. Close the utility and rename the JTA.dat or ATA.dat file (which one you have depends on your side) in the XXX sub-folder of War in the Pacific/SAVE to something else. Then restart the utility and look at the tracking again. I bet the tracking reports will appear for the CA. You can do this as, if the tracking info file isn't found, it's recreated using the info in the com_txt files. I think I set the default for this to 2000days, so you should still have the info. Of course, once people start to complain about the size of the com_txt files and possible slow response, I'll point you to the setting for this [;)] (it's in the WitPUtility.exe.config for the curious).

However, on further reflection I think multiple day turns will probably cause a problem with missing tracking info. I didn't have problems with single day turns in my game, but that's on hold at the moment due to lack of time. I need to find time to look at this is in more detail.

Thanks for the feedback, sorry about the problem. Useful info for me from anyone seeing this problem would be:
Number of days in turn
Using auto or manual addition of new intel/ops data
PBEM or vs AI
Japanese or Allied
Contents, if any, of the TraceLog.txt file in the utility folder

Thanks, nice idea, I'll consider it. Hope postage to Japan won't cost too much.[:D]

Bodhi,

New game...Dec. 8th turn as the US. BBs have been spotted bombarding in Malaysia but they are not showing up in the tracking folder.

1 turn days
Auto insertion of data
PBEM
Allied
Nothing in the trace log.

I also have another game turn that is doing it also, and it is farther along in the war.

Not sure if this info helps, but here it is anyway.

Thanks. Hopefully I'll get some time to look at it over the weekend.

Does the deletion of the JTA.dat or ATA.dat file result in the data appearing next time the utility's run?

There's one for each "game" so they're stored in the XXX sub-folder of the main WitP\SAVE folder (where XXX is the game save slot).

Think I figured out what was going on. After I deleted the Jap.dta file, they did show up in one of the games I have had going for a while.

I was thinking that if they showed up on the Combat report, then they would show up in the tracking function. It looks like they only show up if they are HIT in the combat report. I have no hits on the Dec 8th game, and nothing is showing up, but on the 4/42 game, the stuff is showing up that was hit, so that is my assumption.

Your thinking is correct, they should show up, even if not damaged in the combat. Got free some time so just about to go and have a look at the code. Wish me luck. [:D]

Possible fix for tracking problems 1.0.0.6 (04/06/2005)

Post by Bodhi »

I think I found the error with some tracking reports not showing. Just tried a few turns and it seems to be working correctly. Unfortunately, I'm going to be out for the rest of the day so if anyone would like to try it and report back, the updated version is here.

Just d/led 1006. I deleted the .dta files and cranked it up. It looks like it is tracking now.

Great job, and thanks!

Thanks for the upgrade!!!! One quick question, do I have to delete or remove the old version or do I just install over the top of the old one?

You should uninstall any previous version, then reinstall to the same folder. You may have to reset some of your preferences after reinstall.

Thanks to Wayne for spotting a problem with some base names and spaces. Just to confuse everyone, the link in the sig now points to a version with this corrected, but that's still labelled as 1.0.0.6. [:D]
