I thought it was Sicily and not Crete, just before the invasion there. I believe the Germans were training at the same time the allies started the attack on the island.

Sicily is correct. The British and the Germans dropped inland from the SE coast and caused great confusion for all concerned.

The sub picture looks like the M1. 12" gun for the cruiser submarine project. The M1 is really a WW1 ship though

The 12' gun of the British M-class submarines is correct.
But the HMS/m M1 was the only one of her class completed during World War One. Even then she was hidden away in North Africa.
The HMS/m M2 and HMS/m M3 were not completed durring the war and HMS/m M4 was canceled.
The Loss of HMS/m M1 November 25, 1925
They were known as "submarine monitors" or "submarine cruisers".
The HMS/m M1 was fitted with a 12-inch (305mm) Mark IX gun which was intended for use against surface ships in preference to torpedoes , the argument being that,
"No case is known of a ship-of-war being torpedoed when under way at a range outside of 1000 yards" .

OK .. I messed that up.
The little fellows were the junior Hitler youth. So a win for Centuur.
However I was really looking at
US Brevet Colonel Bonner Frank Fellers. He was refereed to as 'the little fellers' or 'my bonnie fellow' by Erwin Rommel.
But why?

Al Capone's. The Secret Service was worried about 5th columnists, which Hitler had made use of in his surprise attacks on other countries. But the budget for a President's car was limited to $750 so they did not have an armored car available in the President's fleet. However, the Treasury Department had confiscated Al's when they put him in prison for tax evasion. So they simply pulled Al's car out of the garage for the trip to Congress. Note that Secret Service is a branch of the Treasury Department.

The Department of Homeland Security was established with the passage of (Public Law 107-296) which in part, transferred the United States Secret Service from the Department of the Treasury, to the new department effective March 1, 2003.
