Hi all,
ORIGINAL: USS America

It's been extremely warm (records both Sat and Sun) here, in the upper 70's, but today's rain is bringing cooler temps. I just saw the hourly forecast temperatures through 8am Christmas morning: 29 degrees. If that holds true, my Christmas morning swim in our new pool will be an official Polar Bear swim. [:D]

I'm gonna make sure our new fireplace is already cranked up to go with my eggnog post swim. [8D]

In past few days we here unusually warm spell... the temperatures are as high as 16 degrees Centigrade... it is more like early October than Christmas and New Year... [X(]

Merry Post Christmas! Back in harness at the office doing....

...nothing because it's freakin dead. It's amazing how quiet it is in Support & Repair when the customers are not touching things. [8D]

Good morning... Left the rest of the family in bed snoozing away this morning. Someone has to be at work to help the world go around...

Now, to decide on watching a movie or going back to bed.

Maybe I'll turn on a movie and fall asleep on the sofa. [:D]

Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Terminus
Another Christmas eve done. Spent it with my mom as usual.

It's a bit melancholy these days. She'll turn 79 in January, and every Christmas I can't help but wonder if it'll be the last we have together.

Sorry if I'm bringing people down, but there it is.
I know how it is Kristian... my mother is 81... our entire family spends Christmas eve and Christmas together and we always have nice big (3 meters) Christmas tree...
Leo "Apollo11"
I, too. When my mother was 69, she had a seriously major stroke. The entire right side of her body, including her right brain, no longer functions. We all thought that was it. But she's 87 now and still going strong; alert, lucid, nasty as ever, can't speak but can grunt, groan, and sigh, intelligeably. The elderly are a lot stronger and way more butt-headed than we think.

Don't be melancholy, my friend, she might just surprise you. But, in any case, take what you get while you can get it. The elderly are susceptible to melancholia, so don't show it. Love them and confront them, engage them and challenge them; it's what keeps them alive and aware. When the time comes, as it will, you will both be prepared to deal with it. It's a glass half-full, or half-empty, kinda thing, and old as our parents are, they are still sensitive to their environment.

I utterly hate being philosophical. But every now and then ... please forgive. John

I just spent a very happy day and a half with my Dad. He's 83, and it's the 1st time I've seen him in nearly four years. Although he's very healthy , I can't help but wonder if I won't see him again. I'll always take his phone call , no matter how inconvenient. I made that mistake with my mom. She left a message , and I said "I'll call her tomorrow". She passed that night. [:(]

There is no blame, Steve, except that which you wish to accept to yourself. My Dad died 12 years ago after taking care of mom for many years. His great and inclusive heart, just gave out. A great and wonderful man left us. Them of us who are left must carry on. I remember going to the funeral and seeing his body, and promising to his "shade", that I would do what he wanted.

Death is life. Life is death. What we are, is what we were, and ever shall be. The thought you hold in your mind about "I'll call tomorrow" will be there, for God to see. Your tears for your mother's passing, are keys into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Sorry, I'm just a philosophical Jesuit and want to see and greet my friends at the footstool of God.

Woof !! Hootz Gazootz !! John

Actually John I don't feel blame, only regret. For lost opportunities. Life is precious, fleeting and too often too taken for granted. Seize opportunities, and treasure them. And those you love. [:)]

Tithe... Yesterday was entirely foggy from morning to night. 86 cars crashed on a 10-mile stretch of highway just south of here over a two-hour period.
